Penguin Soldier, why is this not seen more?!

1. It's FLIP, so if you got a Book of Moon handy, you can use it over again.

2. It's opional, which means you won't have to return your own cards if you don't want to.

3. It says "up to" which means you don't need to specificly have 2.

4. It can return itself for later use (Mako mentioned this).

5. Use cards like Aegis of the Ocean Dragon Lord or Half Shut on it so it won't be destroyed.

Flip

Return 1 monster

Return itself

Set for next bout.

...

Yeah, why isn't this more common?

uh, that's also nice, I remember using that in the gba games actually

Pretty much, and isn't as beneficial as Raiko or defensive and beneficial as Snowman Eater.

Well, some have destroy protection, like Stardust, so making it able to return is nice instead, as you can still return Extra Deck monsters with this card.

grand mole but slower. thats why.

I have to disagree with you here, I think they're quite different. This can be activated by using Book of Taiyou, which you can return multiple if you need to, and you can reuse this to get two more, where with Mole, you need it to be both face-up (due to the fact that flipping monsters happens 2nd, where Moles effect specifies that it needs to be at the start, in which case, if Mole was face-down, you would not get this effect (though you probably won't play it face-down ever, however this also applies to your opponent's monster, that if it's face-down, you can't use this card's effect on it)), and for there to be an attack, what if your opponent doens't want to attack this, or if you can't attack or is blocked by Mirror Force? That way you can allow Penguin to be attack, and return itself (unless destroyed, as said before use cards like Aegis of the Ocean Dragon Lord or Half Shut on it to prevent that) for later use, or get two cards back. Penguin is better in my book.

It's a solid card with a nice not-so-specific effect. Wonderful when holy piles of random were viable deck choices.

More specific decks, like archtypes for example, don't really like running many monsters outside of their own relatives, and as solid as the card is, usually playing it face-down is like taking a break from whatever strategy you are focusing on, with little to no synergy (usually)

As I said, it's somewhat topdecky, can get you back in the game, and if you put some cards like Aegis of the Ocean Dragon Lord in your low level WATER deck for protection, you might run into having both, in which case it can be pretty useful for multiple uses even. It's not as fast as Mole, though as I stated that card is more specific than this card, so it does cause some problems.

Issue with Taiyou is that you're now trying to justify running 1 subpar card by running more subpar cards.

If you can't attack with mole it's very easy to sit on it and taunt your opponent into either not doing anything or bouncing their own monster.

If you hit a Mirror Force you hit a Mirror Force. Ok.

Penguin Soldier is almost ALWAYS destroyed though unless you, guess what, run subpar cards.

I don't think it would be the best play to get back in the game. If the field is too overwhelming, you might not dedicate your turn to Set it. If you are not too far behind, I guess it could casually be teched and work, but tbh, is not really game-changing. Which doesn't mean it's "bad".

You can lol at your opponent by flipping it with Nebula Meteor though, which I'll probably do someday even though it's far from Nebula's best combos.

if your opponent drops mirror force on grand mole they deserve to lose. christ.

If it screws up their high level monster then it's worth it. But as I already said, these cards a different from each other, and are played in different ways. Mole does outclasses this in speed, but if you work around that with some cards, this can be better, but will cost you more cards.

I stopped reading here.

But this was actually a common side option back in synchro plant days where you were very often faced with a Shooting Star and a Librarian or something and this was easily your best out to it. Nowadays a lot of the top decks don't even rely that heavily on Xyz and you always want to get rid of them straightaway because most of them have effects that can screw you over if you let them use them twice.

People are really suggesting using Penguin Soldier's effect on your own turn? Did people stop running Effect Veiler or something? I've been out of the meta for quite some time.

Anyway, Penguin Soldier's best move is being set when your opponent has one monster on the field. On their turn, they summon some other thing then attack. Their field is clear and they have no summon left.

The problem is destruction effects.

The problem is destruction effects.

So Mole doesn't suffer from this? I actually think that getting to use Penguin's effect is easier since you don't have to worry about your opponent using Mirror Force or the like which Mole suffers from. But still Mole is easier to use.

However Penguin is vulnerable to Marksman/Bear/Dark Hole etc.

You use this on big guys, not those, but yes it still has Dark Hole (and I don't know what Bear is, and I don't see what you mean by Marksman), but then there is a lot of Summon and Attack traps which many use.
