The Big Bang Theory

This is probably my favorite show on TV right now, since Family Guy's taken a dip in quality and South Park isn't around as much as it should be. And honestly, this show is one of those rare few where I love just about everyone, and where everyone's made me laugh on multiple occasions.

And Sheldon Cooper is one of the best characters ever innovated.

On a random note, my friend says I'm the Wollowitz in our friend group at college.

Good show, but I am bothered by its blatant mis-potrayal of nerds and nerd-culture.

Really? I thought that was one of its strong points when I first watched it, especially with all the references.

I can see how that might be an issue in later seasons, but I amounted that to character growth after entering relationships with significant others.

Meh.

I hate how they make ALL nerds/geeks socially awkward and mostly girlfriendless.

I know quite a nerds who were popular and quite a few geeks who weren't socially awkward and had girlfriends.  They just keep on playing on stereotypes instead of breaking them and that's what I hate about the show.

As a quote once put it:

"It's a show about dumb jokes about smart people."

Some parts make me chuckle like bits with Sheldon but most of the other stuff is hit or miss.

One of my favourit shows. Cracks me up every time I watch it. Sheldon can sometimes get on my nerves, but other than that, flawless comedy show.

For all haters:

If the geeks werent stereotyphical geeks and socially awkward, the show wouldn't be as popular as it is.

Excuse me if I have bad english, I am just too damn tired for this.

First part of the post is going to be to the haters.

As mentioned above, it does portray them as totally hopeless in the romantic scheme of life, for most of the main 'nerd/geek' characters are in a relationship. When you say it plays on the stereotypes that nerds are nerds and nothing else, what else do expect it to get its ratings from. No one wants to watch a show about a guys that are really smart and lead normal lives.

Now onto my fanaticism.

I love this show. It literally defined my junior high years. I have every season on DVD, and have seen every episode at least 1. It is a bit of an obsession.

I'll make a random note same as fusion. I am constantly told that I AM Sheldon Cooper. Apparently, I look like him, talk like him, and I am funny/annoying like him, on occasions.

Actually, most of the guys have girlfriends.

Even Sheldon has one.

So no, they're not portrayed as "girlfriendless."

It took years of character development and growth to have all of them with a women. At the start they were very much helpless in regards to their love lives. I do get why their portal of geeks can be a turn off but I'm ok with it. Not to mention that over the 6 seasons the characters have moved past a fair number of the stereotypes.
