The Hunger Games - Day Phase 10

Bahamut - Envoy of the End

Recommended Posts

*sounds of trumpets herald the announcement that can be heard all over the YCM Capitol*

Welcome, one and all, to The Hunger Games - a mafia game based on the popular book/film by Suzanne Collins. I am the Grand Gamesmaster, Matt 'Claudius Templesmith' Bahamut. I know this sort of thing is becoming a fad around here, and that the last one... kinda petered out... but I'm determined to make a good fist of this. It's something I really want to do. I've had a chat with Cinna about it for advice and she's offered to help as well, so this should be well organised and hopefully a lot of fun. I just got the idea, and so now I have to try it, and soon. All are welcome to join whether you've knowledge of the series or not, hopefully this shall be entertaining for the citizens of YCM Capitol. Enjoy the show!

THE HUNGER GAMES
Rules, Mentorship, and Training

 • There are 14 players. Either way there must be an even number. Players are known as Tributes.
 • To join, simply post saying you want in. Also to show you read this, tell me wheher you've read the book, seen the film or not (it doesn't matter much if you have or not, I'm just curious and it's an easy method of seeing if you've read this). Oh, and if you're not going to be active, please, don't bother entering and wasting a space someone else could have taken who'd have actually played. I reserve the right to kick out anyone for extended inactivity in graphic and gory fashion.
 • I consider inactivity to be going two Day Phases without posting. If this happens you will recieve a PM warning you. If you recieve a warning and still fail to post during the next Day Phase, you will be eliminated. You only get one warning...
 • Every player will be assigned a character (don't request, you get what you're given) and will be placed into teams of two by PM, according to the District your characters are from. Everyone will know who their partner is and everything about them, and no-one else. DO NOT reveal you or your partners character, abilities, etc, to anyone, unless directed by a Gamesmaster (and I can't see why I would tell you too).
 • The Hunger Games take place in a simulated Arena, with various controlled environments and areas. Even the weather is controllable. Some areas may contain things that can be.... interacted with...
 • The aim for all Tributes is simply survival, by any means necessary. To win the Games either you, your partner, or both of you (but preferably you) has to the last person standing alive in the Arena at the end.
 • The game is split into Day Phases and Night Phases. Day Phases everyone is free to move, RP, attack Tributes, form alliances, and do whatever. Night Phases everyone has to sleep/hide, except for certain Tributes who can use the Night to their advantage, in their PM's. No-one is to post in the thread during the Night Phase. Doing so will result in IMMEDIATE ELIMINATION!!! (no exceptions or immunities).
 • During the Day Phase, it's a free for all. Everyone can vote for who they want to launch an attack on. Attacking a player will inflcit a wound on that person (RP'ing is encouraged, but don't call fatal stab or any of that.). Votes must be bolded in order to count, otherwise the attack will be considered a miss. The most voted for/wounded at the end of the Day Phase will die from their injuries and be removed from the Arena.
 • Once you have voted for/attacked someone successfully, you CANNOT CHANGE your vote! (for various reasons).
 • It's the weak and unlucky who fall in battle. In the event of a tie in votes between the top 2 or more Tributes/2 Tributes recieve an equal number of severe wounds, after all abilities and factors are considered, I will flip a coin to determine who goes. If the two most wounded people both have abilities that save them from elimination that day, the day will be deathless (boo's from the audience)
 • In addition to regular Tributes scraping it out, there is an additional group of Career Tributes, made up of the Tributes from Districts 1 and 2. Unlike the others who see the Games as a death sentence they were unfortunately selected for, the Career Tributes have spent their lives training to compete for glory and fame in the Games, and are the traditional winners. Usually their strategy is to team up and take everyone else out, before turning on each other to determine the victor!
 • The Career Tributes will have an additional PM to their District ones. During the Night Phase, the Career Tributes will be able to hunt a player down and immediately kill them. Obviously identifying and getting the Career Tributes during the Day Phase is crucial to everyone else's survival. However, as I believe a flaw in mafia games I've experienced is that they are heavily slanted in the 'evil' groups favour, life will not be so simple for the Careers as just 'eliminate everyone else'.The Careers CANNOT WIN as a group, only as District 1 or District 2. Also, if the Career Tributes are reduced to a single remaining player, that Tribute will be unable to hunt at night as it is no longer safe for them to go out alone in the Arena.
 • One of the Tributes comes into the Games with a severe handicap. Life in the Arena will be more of a challenge for him and his partner, who will have to work together extremely well to succeed.
 • There is also a pair of star crossed lovers; a boy and girl Tribute from different districts whose goal is to win together as opposed to their District teams. They also have a seperate PM.
 • Everyone has a Talent; an automatic ability that activates under certain conditions without command, and a Skill; an ability that the Tribute elects to use at their command. An example of Talent might be expertise with certain weapons or suitability to certain environments. An example of a Skill might be the ability to inflict greivous wounds (ie double damage/worth 2 votes) or being able to see certain things about other Tributes.
 • The world will be watching, and some fans may shower gifts on those they deem worthy. Weapons and Equipment can be obtained by winning certain taks or fulfilling certain conditions. These can be used to preserve, take, or maybe even restore life. A Tribute can only carry a maximum of two Weapons and Equipment, although they can freely pass on an item to their District partner. Examples of Weapons and Equipment are the Spear; which can be used to inflict grievous damage, or the Shield, which can be used to avoid death under certain circumstances. If a player dies while carrying any Weapons and Equipment.... the Gamesmasters still need to clarify this....
 • The use of Skills are to be activated in your district PM, to me in private. The use of Weapons are to be declared in your post in the thread when attacking someone. You do not say what weapon you have, simply post Attack Tribute A with Weapon (although again, RP as you wish).
 • Some weapons, or skills, or other factors, may inflict a Tribute with a problem. These come in the form of either Poison: a venom that lasts for two day phases after being infected before clearing up naturally, or resulting in death, or Paralysis: which stuns a Tribute flat, negating all of their Talents and Skills, and renders them unable to post or attack until cured (if they already attacked someone before getting paralysed, the attack still counts as a wound). Paralysis wears off at the start of the next Day Phase. Both Poison and Paralysis can be cured by Medicine, although obviously in the event of Paralysis you will need someone to administer the medicine for you.
 • All Tributes will start at the Cornucopia; a golden horn shaped monument at the centre of the Arena, where Weapons and Equipment can be obtained and one Tribute will be immediately lost (more or this when the Games begin). The Tributes will be moved to a different area/terrain on regular basis. The arena has various environments and terrains, certain places may be beneficial to certain characters, or contain certain things...
 • RP'ing is by matter of personal preference. I appreciate not all players will be familiar with the books, or be more or less comfortable RP'ing. All Tributes will recieve a short bio about their character and how they were in the book (or a made up bio if they weren't a major character) that can be used as a guide. Or not, s'up to you. RP'ing as your character may be fun, although you may tip of others familiar with the books as to your identity if you overdo it. You are free to Google your characters.
 • All standard rules of YCM apply, regarding flamming, trolling, spamming, etc. You should know all these.
 • I, the Chief Gamesmaster, am in charge, along with Cinnamon Star and any others from the YCM Capitol who volunteer to aid me. We run the show. Leave dispensement of judgement to us. If you have a problem, come to us.
 • As Gamesmasters, I/we reserve the right to add, change, or remove rules as I/we see fit, change the environment, weather, available arsenal of Weapons and Equipment, and generally change anything I/we like to keep the Capitol's audience entertained and make you Tributes lives in the Arena miserable.
 • In summary, to win the Hunger Games you will the strength to survive, the intelligence to pick up equipment essential to your survival, the strategy to play to your characters strengths and work out your opponents weaknesses, the cunning to form alliances to topple dangerous foes, and a hell of a lot of fortune.
 • Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favour...

Right, think that's everything, although some things may be tweaked/added/subtracted before the Games begin. So yeah, sign up, volunteer. Also looking for another Gamesmaster if anyone wants to help me do this, given I'm new to running any kind of event on here. If anyone has additional questions ask them here for now, at a latter date by PM (when you recieve your character PM), and advice is welcome from those more experienced in this.

I;m game. Have no knowledge of the series besides love triangle, battle royale, and something about a dog.

DK is in! I've seen the movie and read all three books. Also lots of experience in Mafia Games.

Aha, congratulations! The first two unfortunates, I mean, lucky winners have been drawn.

I apologise for the shambles of the opening post, computer is being weird and not letting me copy and paste for some reason. I'm working on it. I'd advise you keep checking back over the next few hours as things get updated. Welcome and thanks for the apps, both are fine (although I have no idea to what dog KOG is refering? :S)

I'm game.

I've read the first two books.

Seen the film.

I have no experience with the Hunger Games at all, but this seems interesting.

I'm joining this, it seems interesting and I've played the previous two mafia games and read both the books and seen the movie, so I think it'll be good.

All accepted as your posts are fine and dandy (I'll add you to the opening post later, I'm going home now :P)

I admit I've only read Book 1, but yeah hopefully this will be okay.

D:<
Lol, your chances are somewhat simila to getting snakes eyes :D I take it lunar has done mafia games before then.
Yeah, why not.   Read it all, watched the movie. But you already know that.
Aha, another name has been drawn. Congrats. I was gonna pm you to say I was doing this just as conversation, but now you're here selected as tribute, you lucky lucky thing you (best Effie Trinket impression). Dunno how familiar you are with these mafia games but hopefully the rules are thorough enough. If anyonehas questions feel free to ask, and the trainers will aid you.

I have no idea either, but i hear people talk about the movie mention a dog with these eyes, that looks suspiciously like someone else's eyes.

I'll join this sounds fun. I have watched the movie and read the books. So woot!

Watched the movie (loved it if it matters), reading book 2 for the moment, and I have no idea or whatsoever experience in "Mafia Games"

I'm in

Thank you both for joining. Yes as long as you're going to be active that's great, although my theory is because the games based on something people like, and the new formatting, should keep interest alive. Will add you to the op shortly. Wow 8 tributes already. This is going to be exciting viewing.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about now...

Tributes may want to check back later as I've got some bits to add go the rules, the most major announcements I'll put in colour and in a new post as well anyway.

I don't know if she has or not. I just want her on my team. :3

Hmmmmm.... we'll see. No we won't.

Anyway, glad you posted, because I've got some important announcements to make or new stuff, and clarifying things from above.

First of all, I'd like to announce the Cinnabon Star will also be acting as a Gamesmaster. She'll be helping me with her experience in running these games, and dreaming up cruel and unusual ways of making you all suffer... I mean, keeping the veiwers entertained.

....

Next, about Night Phases. This is extremely important, so pay attention. I don't have the ability to lock the thread at night. Cinnabon does, but what if she can't be around when I want to open the thread? Therefore I must stress to Tributes that, unless this situation changes (which it might yet), DO NOT POST HERE DURING THE NIGHT PHASE! It's not safe for you to be venturing around on your own at night, not with all the traps and animals and.... things... living in the arena. The Careers, as a group of battle trained warriors, are safe enough to do their hunt. Regular Tributes however are not. Therefore, IF YOU POST DURING THE NIGHT PHASE, WITH NO EXCEPTIONS, YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY ELIMINATED!!! Abilities, talents, equipment are all negligable when faced by the wrath of the Gamesmasters and the dangers of the night. If you desperately need to ask something during Night Phases, ask by your PM.

Consider yourselves warned....

Also, on that subject, if the Career Tributes pack is reduced to a sole one, they will no longer be able to hunt Tributes at night as it will be unsafe for them to do so.

....

Now, to clarify about Day Phase lynching/wounding and how eliminations are worked out. The person at the end of the day who has been attacked the most/recieved the most wounds will die from their wounds. However, say they have an ability or an equipment that makes them safe for that day. Unable to be caught in that terrain or harmed by your weapons unbeknownst to you. They should be safe, and that means that everyone else is safe and no-one dies that day. Right?

WRONG!

The audience want blood! They want death! And they want it daily! And so help me I will give it to them! *waves fist in a slightly irate and comical way*

Let's say a Day Phase ends up with voting of Tribute A: 6 wounds, Tribute B: 4 wounds, Tribute C: 3 wounds, Tributes D, E, F, and G: 1 wounds each.

So, in the event of Tribute A being the most attacked, but for example has the ability to evade attacks in that terrain, their wounds are reduced to zero. So Tribute B is now the most wounded, and will die instead. However, if Tribute B has some sort of first aid kit to bandage themself up with, or an ability to sort their wounds out before they become fatal, they might reduce their wounds by two before the end of the day. Therefore, Tribute C gets it. In short, someone will die.

The exception being if there is a multiple way (3 or more Tributes) tied on one vote/wound as the most injured. A single wound is not considered enough to be fatal, not until the dying stages at least, and so for one day only everybody lives. (Boo!)

.....

To clarify the use of Skills and Weapons: Skills are activated in your District PM. They are done in secret from everyone else. The use of a weapon is declared in thread. You do not have to say what weapon you are using (in fact its probably advisable you don't, although RP'ing), just say in your post when you delcare your attack Weapon, in bold, and I'll administer any effects needed.

.....

The final new concept I have to mention is status alignments/illnesses. Certain weapons and other things have the ability to inflict certain ailments to an unfortunate Tribute:

POISON: When poisoned, a Tribute will start the Day Phase with a wound, which can only be healed by medicine. The poison can be removed by medicine. After being inflicted with Poison, it will last for another two full day phases. During the third night phase you will either naturally recover, or you will die. We haven't decided yet.

PARALYSIS: When paralysed, a Tribute will be stunned and unable to move. They cannot post in the thread, and therefore cannot vote/attack anyone (if they have already attacked someone, that attack still counts). Also, their talents and skills will be nullified. Paralysis can be cured by medicine, although obviously you'll need someone else to do that for you, you can't cure yourself of Paralysis for obvious reasons. Paralysis goes away naturally at the start of the next Day Phase.

........

Finally, about the prospect of inactivity. I consider going two day phases without posting to be inactive. If this happens, you will recieve your one and only warning by PM. If you still fail to post in the thread during the next day phase, you will be killed.

I appreciate that we all have lives outside of YCM Capitol (....right?). So if this presents any problems, PM me or another Gamesmaster and we can sort something out.

These things have been added to the opening post, but dropped in where they make sense. Easier to announce these things seperately like this as well. All clear, good.

Next Tributes please?

*back to the Effie Trinket impersonation*

My my my my! What an enthusiastic volunteer. How could such infectious young child be refused?

Congratulations, you are going to the Capitol to take part as Tribute Number 9. Big applause everyone.

Ideally speaking 5 more needed, max 7. C'mon guys....

Eh hEh HeH... Since you've been begging and groveling, I mean, asking so very nicely, I guess that I too will join in on the fun. After all, with a bit of luck, I can get to kill others , too. NoW dOeSn'T tHaT sEeM wOnDeRfUl?

*shoves above speaker aside* Erm, please forgive my mentally-unstable and sadistic alter ego. He has a tendency to speak out whenever he sees something of this nature. However, I'm sure what he wanted to say is that I'm volunteering to be a Tribute. May the odds be in the favor of everyone else as well!

Oh, and I've read all three books in the series, though I have yet to see the movie. Personally, I don't particularly care for movies adapted from books because nearly all of them suck, imo.

Finally, the 10th Tribute.

Was so excited when there was 5 join within the first hour and then it's taken a day to get from 9 to 10. Dunno if people are just all overwhelmed by the first post or 'I haven't read the books so I can't join in' or what (that wasn't a question sarcastic onlookers). Ah well, we do need a veiwing audience for the Games anyway, people won't know what they're missing out on until it's too late. :3 I dunno, maybe people will panic volunteer as spaces dwindle... *looks hopeful*

Consider yourself in and thank you for joining. Ideally need four more people so that there's a fairer proportion of regular Tributes to Careers to.... others....

Only took me a week to get 7 people for my game. :P

Most likely the part about commitment.

Most likely the part about commitment.

Game should only last around two weeks, depending on how hard to kill/lucky some people are and quickly we can rattle through phases.

Commitment... as in meaning having to post "I elect to attack X Tribute because Y reason" once every 48 hours?

Well, that's sorta the minimum anyway. You can post in thread to do stuff other than just look for and attack people. Forming alliances with other Tributes could be vital to your success, convincing them that so and so needs to be eliminated because they're a Career or have a threatening ability or weapon you want or simply because you have a vendetta for them and so on, all that's positively encouraged. Before you stab them in the back! :P

I dunno, that's the fun for me as a Gamesmaster. I get to watch all of your little heads explode trying to work out the best strategy to try and survive and outwit all your opponents, or hide from them, or take them down. And then watch someone's guts explode! :D

Bump for the sake of trying to pull from the 'Let's spam to 100' threads surge in popularity.

Was hoping to be sending characters out tonight given the early interest, hopefully will be able to start soon once the final four places are taken (yes, I think we really do need more than 10 players). Will keep you posted obviously, you'll get your District PM's hopefully soon.
