Dark Magician Girl the Pumpkin Queen

IDEA: I got the idea for this card after seeing the image in a Youtube video for creating a Yu-Gi-Oh Orica card.

Img. Credit: I do not know who actually made it, but I will link to where I got it from: see description of video.

The Basics of the Card

Name: Dark Magician Girl the Pumpkin Queen

Type: Spellcaster/Fusion /Effect

Stars: 8

ATK: 1900

DEF: 3700

Description: "Dark Magician Girl" + "Pumpking The King of Ghosts"

This monster cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. This card gains 200 ATK and loses 100 DEF for every "Dark Magician" or "Dark Magician Girl" and "Pumpking The King of Ghosts" in either player's graveyard.

The Who, What, & Why

*This section is designed to explain why I did what I did in terms of effect, ATK, DEF, etc.

ATK & DEF: The ATK is 50% of both the Dark Magician Girl (2000) & Pumpking the King of Ghosts (1800) added together (1000+900). The DEF is simply added together from both monsters (1700+2000). I did this mostly because it seemed like a simple why to it without giving it to much thought.

Fusion: I said above the idea for this card spawned after seeing the image and immediately I thought of Pumpking the King of Ghosts as the partnering monster for this one.

Effect: I still wanted it to have some remnants of its old effect (Dark Magician Girl) so I used it and lowered 300 to 200 and also added the cards needed to make this monster to the effect. However, I also wanted a small weakness so I added the lose of 100 DEF in for good measure.

Stars: I will admit I have no clue how the STAR LEVEL system works for cards so I simply took a guess that my monster would be an eight star monster. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Well, I have good news and bad news.

Good news is that your card is actually pretty well-made. The image looks nice (I would go the extra mile to add credit to the original artist, but that's just me), and it clearly fits the name. There is no doubt in the world that this card is related to its Fusion Materials. Plus, other than a few little tweaks to the card grammar to make it up-to-par and conform to Problem-Solving Card Text, it seems solid.

Bad news is that...well...how do I put this? I guess I'll be a bit blunt, so please don't take it too personally. I just don't see anyone really running your card in a professional sense, and even casual is stretching it. There's not really anything to it. It combines two Level 6 monsters and turns them into a wall that will most likely have 3500 DEF and 2300 ATK (gaining 400 ATK and losing 200 DEF for its Fusion Materials, unless you banish them). And Dark Magician Girl wouldn't really be included in the same deck as Pumpking the King of Ghosts in the first place, lowering its playability factor considerably. Plus, even if you got all 9 cards from your Deck into your Graveyard that would boost this monster, its final stats would be...3700 ATK and 2800 DEF. Not really worth all of the effort when I can get a 4200 ATK monster right off the bat by fusing Big Koala and Des Kangaroo. Other than having a nice little wall of a Fusion Spellcaster, there's not really any reason to want to summon this.

Now, for improvements, you can go one of two directions, or combine the two:

1. Drop the strict fusion requirements. Definitely make it able to be Special Summoned by other methods, and maybe make it less specific. 1 Spellcaster-Type monster + 1 Zombie-Type monster would make it a hilarious casual tech in both Spellcaster Decks against Zombie Decks and vice-versa.

2. Make it worth getting out. Right now, there's no reason to expend the effort in both deck space and strategy to want to summon this card. Make it worthwhile. Come up with an interesting effect, such as a more general boost it gains from monsters, a boost it gives all of your monsters, or something clever that can change the game.

Breakdown:

Construction: 2/2

Artwork: 2/2

Grammar: 1/2

Effect(s): 0/2

Competitiveness: 0/2

Overall: 5/10

Hm…I know I'm a bit late to the topic, but I'd say try redoing it to be a non-Fusion Monster support for both cards. Instead of calling it a Dark Magician Girl card, how about "Pumpkin Magician Girl"? This keeps it in the Magician Girl archetype while still allowing it to function as a separate card. Say you can tribute it to re-Normal Summon your King of Ghosts in a similar function to Gemini Monsters so it will activate Pumpking's summon effect a second time, and give her a Pumpking-Style effect, but for Magician Girl cards, and I think you'd have something someone would use.

Remember what I told you in J-Max's archive thread; don't post in really old threads. (Seriously, this thing is almost 4 years old)

Locking.
