I CANNOT for the life of me, hear that name and not think of

I can... Now being serious here, I would have to agree with the people that said Mewthree and say I would much rather have seen it as a completely new Pokemon.

But didn't they already confirm it was a new forme? Why could there possibly still be rumors about an evolution?

A new forme to me is rather silly I suppose I can understand them not using it for the LGFR manga when Deoxys overpowered Mewtwo for a time (Red turned the tables in Mewtwo's favour to beat Deoxys) but I don't understand how a Genetic Pokemon that has no forme changes for as long as Mewtwo suddenly gains one, basically this should have been done years ago, maybe LGFR generation or HGSS time.

Basically I'm not a fan, because this should have been done years ago, not now.

Empole I respect that fact, but I don't understand how something created by the Rockets decides to NOW change forme. Instead one of the other chances (GSC, LGFR, HGSS and Mewtwo Returns), it makes a little bit of a mockery of Mewtwo being a very strong Pokemon.

Agro I think you've nailed how I feel.

It feels a little forced and unneeded. Then again so it Mewtwo being back in general, when they've only so far used 8 of BW's legendaries in feature lengths. (Victini, Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem and the Muskeeters inc. Keldeo). Ancient Vs Experiment is interesting, but the timing is just well....silly.

What I think, is that it shouldn't really have been done before now, at all. This is the better time, so long as it is a generation of DNA or whatever, I've been hearing so much about. I can see it being a form after so long, though a big part about that is hearing all this evolution nonsense. If legendaries didn't evolve before now, I'd never believe it to be one unless we get some actual confirmation. When was the first time there were form changes? The earliest Pokemon I can remember would be Castform, so Gen 3. So it doesn't sound unbelievable that a Mewtwo form change would happen at a later time than the introduction of form changes (before now, I suppose I would have suggested HGSS time, if any)... but the idea of Mewthree or anything similar to that as a completely different Pokemon than Mewtwo, especially as an evolution, doesn't sit right with me. Why would it after this long? My biggest hope with this is that if it is an evolution, it isn't named Mewthree. I realize that anybody that has the idea it could be a different Pokemon is only calling it that because they wouldn't know what else to call it yet, but that was done AGES ago by fans. So that sounds like the worst way they could go about this, imo.

So basically, I can only really see it being a form. I can't see it being too late for the chance of it being one, but that might actually just be me.

But here's the thing~
Could Mewtwo REALLY obtain multiple forms?

It's created from the same DNA as mew, who all other pokémon apparently stem from. So yeah, Mewtwo should be able to vary somewhat.

If it's an evolution, I would hate it. But if it's just a forme, then it would be appropriate and I'd like it. This changed form of Mewtwo's is closer to Mew in terms of looks and, well, size, shows the connection of cloning between them more clearly...kind of. I would've preferred it if they simply made a Mewthree, but after seeing the video, I highly doubt that's going to happen.

However, I still hate the fact that the tail moved from where it should be to the head. Evolutionary-wise, why would any creature do that? Whether it's Mewthree, a new evolution, a new forme, or even just a redesign, THAT TAIL SHOULD NOT BE THERE. WHAT IS IT DOING THERE? No, seriously, what is it doing there? What is the biological benefit of moving a tail - that's supposed to improve bipedal balance - to the head, where it can only serve to impractically topple the Mew's body. Above all else, I'm disappointed in that decision, and forever scorn the artists for it. I can tolerate many things that go on nowadays, but when my legendary childhood is touched upon and distorted into something it can never be, I will not like that.

After looking at the design again, actually, I think I can tolerate it. But it's still too radically different from Mewtwo's tail to be considered anything that can be considered an evolution/alternate forme. If they just made it Mewthree, I would've loved it.

I hate to break it to you, but:

Gregor imagine Mewtwo as that one big Legendary, above others. Most known, incredibly powerful, will always be relevant so has updates for keeping up with times.

Problem with that is that it's always been relevant, at least competitively.

It's in the top 2 Pokemon in the series.

To be honest, the first time I saw this I thought it would be something like a baby form of Mewtwo like the Manaphy-Phione thing. That would have made it's smaller form seem a lot less like bad design, and a baby form would make Mewtwo feel more he was finally able to create life like the clone Pokemon he was taking care of. the theme of the Mewtwo movies used to be "who has the right to create and take life, and what was the value of a life." This just seems like it's insulting the older themes by making Mewtwo into another multi-form. Making the new one a child would have made it feel at least plausible, but calling something that's not only smaller, but less... just less, a new (and insinuated to be more powerful) form, just makes this feel like a cheap grab at straws

The anime's not canon to the games, which are the main canon. Even though Mewtwo's new form is being showcased by the anime, it in no way means that it is WHY they made the form change.

I know, But it just feels wrong that this new form feels like it's so much less than what Mewtwo has been for years. Mewtwo was the original legendary of the games and it never really lost it's title of the strongest Pokemon be it in power or appearance. This new form just feels far weaker than Mewtwo does, and it more resembles a baby form than a true adult form.

but that's just me whining about things. either way, what's done is done, and I don't have the money, or influence to change that.

Actually, hate to go a bit off topic here. But does anyone know why Mewtwo is number 150 and Mew is 151? Especially when Mew was found first...

Mew added in game as one of last things. After debug features removed from final game, 300 bytes left to squeeze Mew in. Most of Nintendo not even know Shigeki Morimoto programmed it in. Not even meant to be in game, and only show up at all because of Mew bug.
