I may get hate for this, but most baby pokemon are a complete waste of pokedex space. They screw pokemon out of a potential 3rd evolution, and egg moves and move tutors pretty much destroy the only purpose they have. The only baby pokemon done right so far is Tyrogue.

Not to mention that your opinion just sounds like it's talking about the competitive side of things. There are seriously plenty of other reasons people do like Pokemon. Even the useless ones competitively have fans, because of things like design, gimmick, origin, typing, and so on. I honestly thought it was okay to have different tastes, and I for one am not one for competitive Pokemon in the slightest.

I like pretty much all baby Pokemon, even if only slightly.

I have no preference to baby Pokemon really. Since my latest game on XD the lack of electrical types made me use Elekid with Cross Chop, Thunderpunch, Ice Punch and Fire Punch (back when Spl Atk/Atk wasn't so important as I've learnt with LG's Gyarados' failure to do decent damage with Waterfall over Surf) and Happiny was good for EXP in DPPt.

I think I've only ever raised a Budew once...or was that my sister, one of us had a Roserade. Not my favourite grassline really.

Cute is good to a point, but I prefer the final forms because I like their designs. I like the more vicious looking final forms which is why Leafeon wasn't my first choice for grass, but because Sceptile's move set is weak and I didn't feel like earning BP or dragging Pearl through to Route 226 (From it's way to gym , just for Energy Ball, I changed my mind. (I believed my Alakazam took Diamond's Energy Ball, and I haven't replayed Diamond since the first playthrough since it's dumping ground)

Some designs I like because of their connections like Garchomp is shark like, Sharpedo is a shark and Houndoom because it's a hellhound.

Can't you just make any moves you'll give the baby to the evolution as a move tutor move?

Not if you want to make those move tutor moves available to a whole lot of other pokemon that you didn't intend to give them to.

Baby pokemon are cute and adorable, what other reason do you need?

My problem is that most of them don't bring anything to the game. If you're going to make baby pokemon, at least make them have a purpose. Make a baby pokemon that evolves into either Heracross or Pinsir depending on certain conditions for example. Make a baby pokemon that interacts with its evolution like for Kangaskhan. But don't make baby pokemon that do absolutely nothing except bring a few moves that could have been added from egg moves/move tutors.

I don't know if you know this, but that first sentence there isn't technically correct, soley because the ones making the games have never thought just about what is useful in battle, and by now they definitely think about how to appeal to more people. That may be your opinion due to your tastes and all that, but it isn't in the least bit true, as that was never the only way of thinking about it.

I personally share Shradow's opinion that you quoted.

The problem isn't that they aren't useful. Every game will have a certain number of games pieces that are useable and that aren't. However baby pokemon have an opportunity cost. Pokemon can get 3 stages and a baby takes up one without giving that pokemon any gain.

Personally I'm ok with single stage pokemon getting a baby form but if when see that the pokemon you like was though of but wasn't seen as good enough to get a cool evolution, only a little baby its frustrating.

A good point, but I've heard it before and for some reason didn't say anything. In some cases that's true, but in other cases I'd rather the baby because I shudder to think of how Raichu's evolution would look like, compared to giving it a pichu. Same as a lot of them really. But I am kind of glad some things start of with a baby, like Togepi, because like the Raichu thing, I can't exactly imagine Togekiss evolving again. But in some cases that isn't a good argument.

**** competitive Pokemon.  Bring on the babies and the NU pokes.  I love ALL of them.

And they don't really take up Pokedex space any more than any other Pokemon does.

HOWEVER, I think they should go back and retcon some things, get rid of incense and all that trash and just make the existing babies base forms.
