Noibat is adorable.
Aegislash is cool as all hell, because, despite being gimmicky, it's still really cool how he functions.
And now I want to know what King's Slash and King's Shield do, as far as what the moves are capable of; Having 2 Signature Moves is sexy, for a Pokemon like that.

Alright. Immah bite that good ol' pride and ask.

Basically... I haven't actually played any of the Pokemon games since the first Red in its intended platform (alright with a little bit of a borrowed Silver). Yeah I've played a lot of them in "other ways" but... as far as physical games are concerned, my experience is limited to, well, the original Game Boy and some Color. You know, Link Cables and all that ancient shizzle. The reason for this lengthy introduction is that I'm not laughed at, when I ask my intended questions.

Now... I kindasorta want to bite the bullet and buy one of these games, mostly due to lolhypernostalgia awakened by Origin. Before I spend a lot of money that I shouldn't be spending on a 3DS and a game, though, I need to know a few things, to decide whether the investment is worthwhile or not:

a ) What other Pokemon games can I play on that console? I assume I can't play any GBA games which is ok by me, but can I play DPPt (my favorite games to date) and BW and their sequels? I've heard conflicting statements and need to clear that up.

b ) Trading. How does it happen? Again, assume you're talking to a Link Cable era guy. How does that whole online thingamajick work? In the end, can I trade things online, without having another 3DS and game (or a person who owns them) at hand? Which games can I trade to and from? I assume there's a more or less complete national Pokedex in the games that you can fill out by hunting previous Generation Pokemon from other games. Please include, if you can, info about other ways to get Pokemon not catchable within the game, I heard some stuff about if you have another game, you can save your Pokemon somewhere and then pick them up from your XY game, but because I get confused by stuff and don't want too much actual plot / Pokemon stuff leaked, I avoid them.

c ) Multiplayer (semi-)competitive battling. Does it happen and how? There's Pokemon Online yeah but it's not the same as when you raise the damn things.

So yeah. Pardon my ignorance and thanks for your help.

Also I didn't know Chibodee Crocket was an E4 member.

I think that picture sums up the whole of 6th gen very well.

a) 3DS can play any DS game. The system can play select GBA and older games via the electric store (ie: you by them and down load them to the system).

b) Local trading is all wireless. All you need is two systems and two games. The systems can also go online and you can trade their as well. I haven't used this function, but I know many people have for the 4th and 5th gen and it works well from what I can tell. How the system works is something I'm not sure of though. You can move 4th gen pokemon to 5th and I'm going to assume you can do the same for 5th to 6th.

c) Competitive Battling in game would be done via the online system. As for if it happens just look at the The Official Pokémon Channel for a bunch of battles from Pokemon Worlds.

I'm sure people can fill you in on more, but this should help a bit.

"Well, right off the bat you get the starter you're strong against from one of your rivals. You can give her any Pokemon for it. I gave her a Volbeat and got a Chespin named Chester."

[spoiler=Champion level spoiler]

Champion's Gardevoir is level 68. She is also said to have Goodra which is being assumed to be at lv70.

Wait, so you have to go out and catch some random Pokemon first, THEN you get your Starter? Neat.

Also that Level is dangerously iffy, Nintendo, for the Champs Gardevoir.

no. you get your rival's starter post-game, trading any Pokemon you want.

And this game is very high leveled, people had level 30s at the 3rd Gym. 3rd Gym apparently has
