The format is nice, but i dont like all the problems it still has, from wind ups OTKing or soft locking,or mermails +ing for every card they use,or heroes dropping 4000 atk beatsticks out of nowhere,or chaos dragons dropping BLS/DAD,and other stuff.

Phantom beast planes look pretty promising, might be a nice tier 2 or so.

Since you said "those who are just trying to get into the competitive scene", I take it this is for me. I want to learn more about the current state of the Meta, but I'm not that good at the game overall. Like I have no real idea what the top decks currently are in the OCG, and which ones are projected to be the top decks in the near future. The only thing I can say is how backrow oriented the current meta is. It seems like people aren't dedicated to a backrow that they either can't use instantly, or can't protect completely. I think this is just one small (and probably insignificant) example of how I hope the game is coming more control based, and not OTK based (thought mermails like to disagree with that statement). SO yeah, I'm really here to learn.

Expect Fire Fists to make a pretty heavy impact on the TCG and it's standing out more in the OCG. Expect Fire Kings to be the cheap cash deck and will see play, but the play style...isn't as up to speed as I thought it would be, but perhaps I'm not seeing something other than Ninja King Phoenix.

Play wise, I don't like "OTK" vs. "OTK", probably 1 good reason why I like Fire Fists so much.

I expect Fire Fists to be a "win game 1" kind of deck, then they lose off to sides like DW . . . or am I missing something?
You're missing a lot of things. Fire Fists are pretty flexible and can recover fairly quickly. Not only that, but game 2 and 3 usually has "Rivalry" and/or "Gozen" in it's name. Vs. Dark Worlds, expect a teched Tenken and/or a long and grueling battle unless they do Shadow Imprisonings (which they shouldn't be doing) or a lot of 1-4-1 plays with Ensho and Yushi.

I'm going to try and get into the competitive seen. Like if I can some how make it to YCS Miami I will but before that I actually need to make a competitive Deck. That and I need to get some real card experience.

Anyways...........Well, Merlans haven't gotten 1st yet I believe (could be wrong). I am happy about that though. The deck as a whole is a + within a + while saying it's a minus if that makes any sense. Dark Worlds do seem to be below the radar but have made a few leaps here and there. (Refering to the TCG not OCG)

S/T Removal vs. Fire Fists can usually be useless against them if they open up a Chicken Chowder combo, Synchro for Horse Prince and Special Summon this in DEF mode:

Fire Fists are overrated imo. They're stupid in many cases, yes, but they've had issues in the OCG.
To some extent...I guess they are.

I just can't wait for Verz~
Likewise, although I'm hoping to see a few Constellars make their way up and/or match up against Verz.

This format is 100x better than the previous format, with Dino Rabbit, Inzektors, and Wind-Ups. Still, I'm finding it to be more of a hold-over format until March 2013; right now, there's so many new archetypes coming out, Heraldic Beasts, Fire Fists, Fire Kings, Prophecies (who haven't even had a chance to do anything at all yet), Constellars, Evilswarm, and even Gem-Knights. I think the next format will be even more diverse than this one, but with a lot less broken cards.

Wind-Ups will definitely be de-throned as the best Deck in the game and something will step up to take its place, but not right away. Dino Rabbit will get some kind of limit as well. Konami logic suggests a hit of some kind to Macro Cosmos, though I don't think that's necessary at all. Either way, there are so many new Decks on the horizon that this Meta hasn't really been all that "exciting" at all. It's diverse, sure, but it's lackluster.

Fire Fists are just the new version of T.G.s. They can do well if no one really expects them, but a prepared format can deal with them relatively well. And of course they have the regular T.G. syndrome of being boring as f***.

Although, they are actually more resilient than T.G.s

Oh and side decks aren't really the best argument vs decks like DWs, since the deck doesn't play the same games 1, 2 or 3, and a good pilot knows what to change the deck to each game.

Overall, though, I like the meta. Merlanteans can be kinda annoying if they open well, and they can also be annoying since the bad players insist on summoning Moulinglacia against DWs... Still, the meta seems fine to me so far, maybe a few too many OTKs and locks though, that would be nice if they were gone. I can't see Konami even wanting to hit much if anything in March.

Those are really the only things I've felt they'd be considering so far.

idk maybe Merlanteans are more bork than I thought too.
I hope they hit something with Merlanteans, but I don't really know what you'd hit since nothing is inherently broken on its own, it's just the way they work together. The best guess (and this is based on what they've had a tendency to do in the past) is that they'll hit Abyss-Sphere.

Atlanteans are natural bad design, given how they are literally DESIGNED to dodge costs. They're like more explosive and speedy Sinister Serpents.

I'd say Dragoons is one of the worst examples of card design in the bunch.
Oh, don't get me wrong, the design is terrible; but can you actually say any of them are broken on their own? If so, it's hard to pinpoint which one actually deserves to be hit the most. That's where I was coming from with that argument.
