First things first, I don't feel the black boxes are necessary also it feels far too dark.

However your dark to light works decently in the background, try and do it on Sonic as well so it flows a bit better to the background.

I have a feeling you might be a decent smudge artist. You've got the beginnings of a really good smudge technique there. Someone should teach you that. Border is unnecessary though, and the render feels too bright and slapped on.

Alright, so a bit less dark, and no black boxes xD
