Code Geass
A lot of people compare this to Code Geass, and yes, they have a lot of similarities, but I feel they’re completely different stories in the end. Mainly because the endings are completely the opposite – a savior who proves himself a retard in death, and a retard (at least, most of the other characters thought he was) who proves himself a savior in death. COMPLETELY different, you know.

Death Note’s ending basically tells about how:
-There’s no such thing as a perfect god
-If you murder people, even if it’s for justice, you’ll eventually forget the borderline, start killing for personal gain as well, and ultimately, go insane
-The God likes potato chips
-Giovanni is the true God of the New World
-A lot of people probably imitated L in real life and got laughed at by his/he friends. I bet you’re included, because I was too.

Code Geass’s ending tells us:
-Regardless of what you did, there’s always a chance of you being able to remove your own sins
-What they teach you in history can be extremely different from what REALLY happened
-Wire-action robots are awesome
-Wearing a badass mask and performing magic can make you a hero
-Eating tons of pizza wouldn’t make you fat at all, even if you do no sports or anything. Yes, given you have an immortal body, true, but still
-Whoever BL lovers rooting for LelouchxSuzaku were probably screaming their heads off at how Suzaku certainly did jab a stick into Lelouch, but it wasn’t quite what they were expecting

So they’re pretty different stuff. I like both, but personally prefer Code Geass – less dragging on in the middle.
1 OMG DARKPLANT YOUR BACK YAY!

okay, now that the hype is done...
loved this anime. I liked it for lelouche, how he went about his goals. The story was imo, well written, and for a mecha anime, it wasnt half bad. (I usually hate mechas)

I quite enjoy the series.

...Am I the only one who didn't like Shirley?

Cause I didn't.

At all.

Yo'ure not alone. In fact, I think it's a thing with the fandom that you either liked Rolo or Shirley, but never both.

Personally I liked Shirley but not Rolo.

At first, I didn't like Rolo but I think he grew on me a bit later on.

Shirly forever. Rolo was eh, imo.

Looks like it's true so far...

I think the writers did an amazing job with making Rolo a retard who is yet emphasizable.
At first: Y U TAEK NUNNALYS SPOT WHO THE HELL R U
When Lelouch tricks him into an ally: Deserved it, now go off and die already
When he kills Shirley: Oh fawk gawd just now die a painful death
When he dies: WHYYYYYYY DIDDDDDDDDDDD YOUUUU DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

He's definitely a retard, but he's one of the most interesting retards I've seen in anime seeing as how he was always only trying to gain a family - a motivation that makes sense and isn't retarded at all.
Well, I'm sorry OP, I'd like to lend you support since public opinion seems to be against you...but Code Geass is my favorite anime. So you're wrong, your gay face is wrong, you're worse than 1-10 Hitlers, your life is a lie etc. etc. etc.

Code Geass's greatest strength is probably in its tight pacing. Stories in general and anime in particular tend to have problems with having a story that moves along at a fast enough pace. Code Geass doesn't have that problem. I don't think anyone can accuse it of that. They could accuse it of a hell of a lot else, but not that.

Oh, but you know what Code Geass doesn't have? A good opening. Five goddamn opening songs and they all sucked. Whoo...

Well I really couldn't care less how you feel about my opinion Cake. The pacing wasn't one of my criticism's anyways. I had zero problems with the pacing.

wat

But yeah, Code Geass was kind of my gateway anime that led me into becoming a bit of an otaku. It had one hell of a plot, ending, lots of twists and turns, and it drew you in. Lelouch is probably my favorite antihero too.
It remains my #2 anime after TTGL.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Lelouch did revolutionize the concept of Anti-Hero and how it is presented.

Let me rephrase: none of the opening songs properly fit the show. Or maybe the show didn't fit the show? Oh god, now I'm really confused.

I never said you did. I actually said the opposite; I said you couldn't. Or something. Whatever.

Speaking of which, can anyone think of another anime - besides Death Note - that has an Anti-Hero like Code Geass? The closest I can think of is Kiritsugu Emiya in Fate/zero, who's arguable at most.

I actually feel the same about Opening Themes.

Not saying they're bad songs as "songs"; that's a completely different matter. As random songs in random albums they're nice. However, being Japanese and being able to understand them perfectly as my mother tongue, I feel their lyrics, as well as melodies, are rather unfitting to the dark-sci-fi theme of the story. They're overall too bright, I think.

For that matter I think Yuukyuu Seishunka and Waga Routashi Akuno Hana (R1 ED 1 and R2 ED 2), both performed by Ali Project, perfectly fit and were hell amazing. They should have done every single song for the series. Hell, Ali Project perfectly fits any dark anime involving awesome dark characters (Proof: Rosen Maiden's OPs "Kinjirareta Asobi" and "Seishoujyo Ryouiki", Another's OP "Kyomu Densen", Kaibutsu Oujyo's OP "Hizamazuite Ashiwo Oname" etc.)

If I had to hate one thing about Geass, it's how the OPs were, while being good songs by themselves, didn't fit with the theme of the story.

Due to the bright colors and music, I was unable to detect traces of grim dark or even grim derp in my first run of the series.

If it wasn't for the copious amount of fan service, I would have greatly liked the series enough to put the whole thing on my PC along with (Though not saying it's as legendary nor good as, just enough) Votoms, Gundam (Original series along with Z), and old school super robot anime such as Gaogaigar, Mazinger, and Getter.

COLORS, Hitomi no Tsubasa, O2, and World End all disagree with you.
It's funny because you list those and don't mention my favorite opening of the bunch.

Yeah, that's right. I like Kaidoku Funou. Cuz I'm a hipster.

Er, that aside, my second post along with Darkplant's post on the openings pretty much give my feelings on the subject.

Code Geass is pretty much the only series I've been able to tolerate the fan service in. Although, now that I think about it, I actually don't tolerate the fan service. I just like Code Geass so much that it's my favorite anime despite the fact that it could easily have been twice as good as it ended up being. Does that make sense?
