5/5 Stars

Wow, simply wow. One of the best Musicals I have ever seen in my life. Tom Hooper is seriously a genius director, directing a movie based on a musical which is based on a historical novel is tough as it is, but this is a masterpiece. Let me say first off that I have never seen anything related to Les Miserables until I saw this. I had NO prior knowledge of what was going to happen. I am going to have to break this down into parts. Let's first talk about Russel Crowe, not only was his acting glorious (As usual), but his singing was phenomenal. Not just that, but the singing of Amanda Seyfried and Anne Hathaway was angelic! The real golden palm here however, was Hugh Jackman.

Hugh Jackman gave such a breathtaking performance. I had never really imagined Jackman in such a demanding role. The cinematography was stupendous and the directing was typical of Tom Hooper, freaking excellent. The pace was fast but it flowed well with the overall movie. The great cast also helped the movie out a lot, not to mention the terrific props and setting pieces.

What I like about this movie is that instead of having the actors miming the songs and having the song played over them, the songs were sung entirely through the camera and into the scene, this brought an emotional depth to everything that warmed my heart more than any other movie. I have never seen such a breathtaking movie like this since I saw Gladiator with, guess who, Russel Freaking Crowe.

This movie is one of the greatest movies of 2012 in my honest opinion and I encourage EVERYPONY to see it, you will be missing out if you don't. This I swear.
So YCM. Good, bad, or indifferent?

UM I'M STILL NOT EMOTIONALLY OKAY FROM THAT MOVIE

OH

MY

GOD

IT WAS JUST I JUST UM WHAT WHY

ehem okay

This movie was simply superb. It was such a beautiful production, brought together in a stunning light and full of the most talented, dedicated cast. And when any of you go to see it, keep in mind that they're singing live during the filming, with only piano playing as they do. There was no studio recorded version that they can just layer on top of the filming. That just blew me away and drew me to the emotions of each song even more.

Also Eddie Redmayne is a dreamboat. Helena Bonham Carter and I should get married. And Anne Hathaway is perfect.

And I'm currently listening to On My Own and I just...I need a moment.

Thank Tom Hooper for that one. I swear whenever Tom Hooper comes out with an idea you would most likely think him insane until he actually does it. Then you realize what a genius of film he is. And considering he is a brand new director to Hollywood film (Considering The Kings Speech was his first big blockbuster I think) I have very high hopes for this man.

That, and Hugh Jackman. Give the guy a name and a place and you got yourself Oscar bait.

In my dream, I am Marius. He is me.

Anne Hathaway was spectacular in this, and I'll be amazed if she doesn't win at least three awards for her performance. Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen were hilarious as the Thénardiers, particularly in their rendition of Master of the House. One Day More wasn't as epic as I had hoped it would be, but considering how it was a live performance, I can understand it.

Colm Wilkinson as the Bishop was awesome. The only downside is that he doesn't get to sing as much, but I do love the imagery of the man who originated the role of Jean Valjean being the one who provides guidance to the modern performance of the same character.

Russel Crowe was better than I expected as Javert, but not as much. When I first heard One Day More, I thought that they turned the volume on his voice up too high so that it overpowered everyone else rather than feeling like a more balanced ensemble song. This was especially bad for Amanda Seyfried, who was good, but I couldn't hear her as well.

I swear I must not have been paying attention when I watched the 25th Anniversary, because I had no idea Empty Chairs at Empty Tables was Marius singing about his survivor's guilt, or that even said characters died. Still, I liked the Enjolras in this.

I've seen criticism of Tom Hooper's angles in this movie, but the only real one that stood out to me was during I Dreamed a Dream, where Fantine's face goes to the corner.

Aside from my complaints, I still think this film was wonderful, and that it did not disappoint, and in fact exceeded my expectations as I mentioned above.
