tl;dr - A policy change that goes into effect on January 16 will allow Instagram, and by extension Facebook, to use any photos taken with the app to license, sell and collect revenue on them without the creator's permission.

Well, they've lost one user. Whatever happened to creative property? Anyways, discuss.

Serves everyone right for using it in the first place. Instagram photos are terrible.

Hmm, I have to agree with this. You do find the occasional good photo, but it's mostly bad composition with a bad filter over it. I'm an advocate of good photography.

Admittedly, it is abuse of creative commons, but alas.

Agreed with .Rai, it had it's moments but it feels like nothing but a fad.

While I might see why someone could get upset about this, I really would give a damn if my photo was being used or not. I wouldn't take a photo (or put any art up on the internet period) to gain recognition, I just want people to enjoy it. Isn't that all that really matters anyways? Just consider it as a compliment that Instagram thinks your photo is good enough use in the first place.

If anyone is dumb enough to pay for a photo from Instagram, they need to reconsider their life choices.
[/quote]

It's professionals in the advertising business who are going to buy them :/ Their life choice is giving them one of the better paid jobs in the media industry. Yeah, they don't need to rethink. Hipster photos are the fad today. They sell.

I read this in the Newspaper a few hours ago. Bit off really, over the boundaries, but I never really saw the point of Instagram anyway. I just take photos; if I wanted to edit it, I'd illegally download Photoshop and get my mate to photoshop it to perfection. But I generally dont, cos I generally dont even take pictures.

To find the abuse of creative commons 'a bit off' then talk of illegally downloading PhotoShop has an irony to it that makes me chuckle.

All the hipsters are going to rage that their pictures of food are going to be sold for profit.

Their pictures of fast food from McDonald's no doubt. And then you'll see them post (from their iPhones) "f*** THE CORPORATE GIANTS MAN. ALL THEY WANT IS MONEY."

I'm happy that I don't use instagram
I don't even take photos of my self
My facebook account doesn't have my real name
I don't even have a pic of myself as my profile pic or cover pic
And the only pictures of me on it were uploaded by family members

Though seriously who thought that this was a good idea anyways

The companies that are willing to buy Instagram pics won't find very much except food and glossy scenery. And chances are, they won't use your pictures unless you're amazingly popular on Instagram and your stuff pops up everywhere.

They also have the rights to your music and videos you post with Instagram. Cause, you know, they originally had no idea what Instagram was going to do and they had something like this built in from the start.

Or was that facebook...? Either way.
