Great Unclean One: VK
http://en.wikipedia....suteru_Yokoyama
This man wrote Tetsujin 28. The first mecha manga of it's kind. That should all be said the rest should already be known.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_Nagai
Go Nagai wrote Devilman, Violence Jack, Mazinger, Cutie Honey. He alone revolutionized anime and manga singlehandedly. Magical girl genre? Him. Piloted mecha genre? Him as well. Thanks to him, we have all the good fan service and violence. Anime wouldn't be anime without him.
http://en.wikipedia....ki/Ken_Ishikawa
Wrote Getter Robo, the Saga of Nothingness, Skull Eater Jakio which was NGE before NGE came out. He created the combing mecha genre along with several other things. Him and Go Nagai worked together on several projects. While Go Nagai was balls out awesome and action, Ken Ishikawa was highly spiritual and had his story have a cosmic ring to it. While Go Nagai was able to have you filled with energy, Ken Ishikawa left you slightly hollow in awe at his works. In many ways they were opposites but they worked so well together. His series, the Getter Saga is often agreed to be one of the most sacred series of the mecha genre due to it's deep storyline and characters.
These are the gentlemen who laid the ground for all mecha anime and manga to be created. Without them we would be set back decades in terms of advancements in the genre. Discuss these legends.
Shizuku Oikawa
In all honesty, I wished more people like these existed in the US way back, considering the Mecha Community isn't very big here seeing how we grew up with people like He-Man, GI Joe, etc. I don't think Transformers alone is enough. On topic, I probably should watch their creations, like Mazinger Z, Shin Getter Robo, and stuff, considering I am taking a great liking to them in this one SRW Game I've been playing on my DS and GBA Emulator. Great Unclean One: VK
If you want to get into Getter you first need to either read the Getter Robo manga then Getter Robo G, then Shin Getter Robo, then Getter Robo Go, and finally the last one before Uncle Ken died, Getter Robo Ark/Ah. If you want to jump into the OVA, watch New Getter Robo first then watch whatever you want.
