The barrier was larger than Gale had expected, she hadn't a clue where to go from here or even how far she'd have to go to find the focal point. As she was deciding she heard something from behind and turned about to find another Magical Girl walking towards her, apparently having been hunting the same Witch.

[b]"I... Little!?"[/b] Gale was taken aback by the girl's insult, especially seeing as Gale was older than her [b]"Go find your own Witch, I was here first!"[/b]

Gale had become fed up with other magical girls getting to the Witches before she could and she wasn't about to let this one go either. She quickly ran past the girl, a gust of wind giving her a boost of speed and allowing her to easily overtake the other girl, she was sorely tempted to go 'meep meep' as she passed by.

[b]"Later, slowpoke,"[/b] she called back, finding an odd satisfaction in the petty insult.

She sped through the barrier rapidly, crossing through different rooms all bearing the same sketched appearance making it somewhat hard to tell what was a wall and what was an empty space but Gale soon found her way through, finding the entrance to the barrier's center. A grin spread across her face as she slowed down and stepped through, her smile falling almost immediately as she observed the scene before her, two other magical girls were already there, fighting a Witch that appeared to be made up of a mass of black lines.

[b]"Y-you've got to be kidding me!"[/b] She said aloud [b]"Why do other people keep getting to the Witches before I do!?"[/b]

Roseann was having a hard time fighting off the two girls, in previous experience the intruders always worked alone and were easy enough to corner and take care of but now that Roseann was fighting two at a time it was harder to keep track of both of them, especially seeing as one of them could fly. The Vincents weren't of much use either, they were easy prey for the bladed weapons one of the pair was weilding and they had no offensive capabilities of their own. Roseann's own attacks seemed equally futile as well, that was just typical, nothing came out the way they should, it was frustrating to the point of madness.

She swatted one of the spinning projectiles with a long black tendril, the chakram imbedding itself in the paper walls surrounding the room, the second projectile however caught the witch off guard and sliced through a part of her body, a chunk of think black lines fell from Roseann's body and crashed to the ground. Roseann would have screamed in pain but couldn't, instead resorting to extending her black limbs out to try and strike the girl that had attacked her, attempting to skewer her on the end of the black tentacles that made up Roseann's body.

Druing this the second girl flew up to Roseann, holding one of the discarded sketches. Roseann paused, the tentacles coming to a halt in mid attack as the girl praised the drawing in her hand. Roseann was confused, that drawing was a piece of crap, imperfect as everything else in this world, why this girl was praising it was beyond...

The distraction soon ended as Roseann was hit with a ball of fire from the girl, black tentacles shot out to try and counterattack but the girl had already moved on, whizzing about Roseann like the paper pests that already inhabited the barrier. Roseann didn't notice that the flames had set its body alight and more chunks of its body were beginning to fall off, the flames quickly spreading among the discarded works littering the barrier's floor. The barrier was made of paper after all and was easy prey for flames.

[color=#000000]Sheibra could only watch as Gale took off. There was no keeping with her, with what that boost of speed provided by the gust of wind, and any attempts to do so would only serve to waste energy. So instead, Sheibra briskly [i]walked[/i] towards the barrier, and entered. If she couldn't tell Gale to back off, she'd just have to push her [i]aside[/i] instead.[/color]

[color=#000000]As she entered, Sheibra noted the two other Magical Girls, who seemed to have teamed up against the witch of the barrier, Roseann. She also heard Gale make a complaint about their presence just ahead of her, but unlike [i]her[/i] Sheibra couldn't care [i]less[/i]. All that mattered was that the Grief Seed was in [i]Sheibra's[/i] hands. In an instant, seven lotus flowers materialized around Sheibra and caught ablaze, before she sent them soaring through the air and after Roseann, unaware that Tsume was about to finish her off. One of the seven immolated flowers seemed to go [i]straight[/i] for Gale on its path to Roseann... only to miss the former [i]completely[/i][/color][color=#000000].[/color]

[color=#000000]Elison, on the other hand, was stopped short of exiting Lerna's barrier by the Troys that chased and attacked the final intruding Magical Girl, who had since transformed back into their regular forms. Kyubey tried to usher her forward, but she seemed... frozen in place. Not having the time to deal with the situation at hand, Kyubey sneaked past the Troys, and jumped through the barrier unscathed. Now, she was in the real world, looking back at the barrier.[/color]

[color=#008080][i]'Hmm... I wonder what's [b]up[/b] with that girl,'[/i][/color][color=#000000] Kyubey mused to himself, [/color][color=#008080][i]'Is she losing the will to fight? In that case, it won't be much longer before she falls into despair... most likely when she least expects it. Strange; it almost [b]always[/b] [/i][/color][color=#008080][i]seems to happen when someone thinks they can last for one more minute. I wonder why?'[/i][/color]

[color=#000000]Nonetheless, Kyubey left the scene, only to arrive nearby the entrance to Roseann's barrier, waiting for Kuro to come back from there.[/color]

Tsume noticed the intrusion of the two other Magical Girls and groaned as one of them started to launch what appeared to flowers...on fire...She was outraged, as this was HER kill. Quickly diverting her buzzsaw-like scythe-chakrams towards the incoming barrage, she instead focused and summoned a giant scythe, much more detailed than the others, with an incredibly intricate, gold-embossed curving blade without the serrated edges. Grimacing, and knowing the paper around her wouldn't provide enough friction or torque for her attack, she quickly plunged the massive weapon into the wall and started running, gaining speed as she started to run along an embankment that would let her run along the wall towards Roseann. Finally, as she neared the chaotic knot of charcoal that was Roseann, she pushed off of the wall and declared. [color=#800080]"BURRASCA MEZZALUNA!!!"[/color] Pulling the scythe with all of her might, she cried out in anger and slashed through Roseann, but the force of the slash keeps going, sending a powerful shockwave into the wall behind Roseann. She continued to spin, bringing the blade around for a second pass as she spun in the air like a top, but, while angled differently from the first attack, the second slash was much less powerful than before, and a couple seconds later, the third slash was even less powerful. Tsume started to drop to the floor, and she hoped that the maneuver was enough, as things got dangerous if she continued her assault.

Apparently being on fire just wasn't enough, now there were two more intruders in the barrier. Roseann didn't have much time to dwell on that, the flames eating away at her body were more than enough. The Witch began to thrash about, her black tendrils scratching thick black lines onto the walls of her barrier. She was far too distracted to even notice the girl with the scythes running along the wall until she was right in front of Roseann, by which point it was too late to do anything to prevent it.

The first slash cut Roseann clean in half, her tendrils unraveling and coming apart, the second though weaker managed to cut the falling chunks into even smaller pieces. By the time the third strike landed Roseann's body was mincemeat and her barrier was already beginning to collapse. Witch a sound like tearing paper the world tore itself apart, the barrier and its familiars dying along with their mistress.

Gale stood by rooted to the spot as she saw the girl finish the Witch off with a single powerful move and the barrier collapsed, fading back into reality, a faint sounds of metal hitting concrete signalled that the Grief Seed had dropped, coming to land a few feet away from where the girl herself had landed.

Gale remained where she stood, she hadn't had any encounters with other magical girls since she'd made her own contract but from what Kyubey had told her they generally weren't the friendliest of people, especially those who had been magical girls for quite some time, and now Gale was alone on a deserted street corner with three others, at least one of which had already been less than friendly with her. Gale was understandably nervous about the whole situation.

The witch barrier collapsed after its defeat, and Kuro swooped down to take the Grief Seed, before flying over to the newcomer Gale on her broomstick like a true traditional witch. Then the broomstick disappeared, as did her costume, being replaced by an exotic kimono with a casual jacket over it. Again, this made her appearance rather formal and informal at the same time. She had a large grin on her face.

"Hey, you!" Kuro declared, pointing her finger right at Gale's nose. "And you!" She turned her hand to Sheibra, who she recognized from earlier. "You're both magical girls, right?"

She looked around.

"This city has one of the highest witch populations on the entire planet for some reason...which means that the people inside of it are also constantly in danger!" She went on. "But, let's say we joined forces...we could protect them, couldn't we? We could find witches more easily, and we could beat them faster before they harm anyone! So what do you two say? Wanna join my team? At the moment, only Tsume's a part of it, but it'd help a lot of people if other magical girls joined too..."

Nervously, acting like a 'true' magical girl, she looked up at the morning sky, she did a spin, as if to represent Lotus City.

[color=#000000]It took Yeumara and the Kyubey that was with her a while to get to where Roseann's barrier was, only for them to see that it had already dissipated, and in its place stood 4 familiar Magical Girls. Well, they were familiar to [i]Kyubey[/i] at least; Yeumara had never met them before, and was confused by their presence.[/color]

[color=#008080]"Strange... there was supposed to be a [i]barrier[/i] here..."[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey stated aloud, before turning to Yeumara, [/color][color=#008080]"So anyway, would you like to meet the Magical Girls?"[/color]

[color=#ffa07a]"Huh?"[/color][color=#000000] Yeumara blinked for a second, before realizing she should [i]say[/i] something, [/color][color=#FFA07A]"Oh, er... hi,"[/color]

[color=#000000]...[/color]

[color=#000000]Sheibra paid no mind to Yeumara's greeting, mostly because she was still sour about her killing move... and her ultimate one at that too. She glowered to herself, trying to think of a way to get Tsume [i]back[/i] [/color][color=#000000]for that when all of a sudden Kuro asked if she was a Magical Girl.[/color]

[color=#a52a2a]"And what if I [i]am[/i]?"[/color][color=#000000] Sheibra asked spitefully, before Kuro went onto explain, mentioning Tsume's name in the process, [/color][color=#a52a2a]"What? You mean that b**** that cockblocked my attack? Forget it. Besides, teaming up is for the weak anyway, and [i]I'm[/i] not gonna be a part of it."[/color]

[color=#000000]She walked away for some distance, but turned to face the trio of Magical Girls, as if she forgot to say something.[/color]

[color=#B22222]"Oh, and one more thing. If any of you see me ever again, I'll look for you; I [i]will[/i] find you, and I'll kill you myself,"[/color] [color=#000000]with that, Sheibra kept walking.[/color]

[color=#000000]Unlike the Kyubey that was with Yeumara, who'd just came to the epiphany that Roseann's barrier had disappeared, the Kyubey that had left Lerna's barrier had known this the whole time, and waiting for Kuro to show herself. Incidentally she arrived with Tsume, Gale and Sheibra, the latter of who suddenly decided to up and [i]leave[/i] on the others, but not before leaving a warning not to see her ever again. But Sheibra wasn't [i]important[/i] to this Kyubey; who [i]was[/i] important was Kuro.[/color]

[color=#008080]"You must be Kuroyuki Epsilon, are you not?"[/color] [color=#000000]asked the Kyubey.[/color]

[color=#000000]Meanwhile, inside Lerna's barrier, Lerna slowly approached Elison, while the Troys had a message from their mistress to show her.[/color]

What she was completely unaware of, however, was that these answers might very well push the corruption over the edge. Nonetheless, the Troys that had displayed the message had dispersed again, only to return with instructions from Lerna to Elison, who gulped once seeing the message.[/color]

Tsume, still in her Magical Girl outfit, dashed over to Sheibra, used her scythe to pole-vault over the fellow Magical Girl, and stood in her way. [color=#800080]"I have no quarrel with you, but I am one of, if not the most experienced Magical Girl here, and I will give you a warning. The path you are about to go down is not a pretty one. Your odds of survival are much greater in a team, and we can add your strength to ours. I am not asking that you become friends with us. I am simply asking you to work with us as a cohesive unit. Nothing more. But this is the only time I shall give you this offer. Walk past me, and you are totally on your own. However, if you join us, I do ask your compliance in following the orders of Kuroyuki."[/color] She briefly indicates back to the witch-themed Magical Girl before returning her gaze to Sheibra, letting her know that it was not Tsume that she would have to obey. [color=#800080]"Understood?"[/color]

Gale was taken by surprise as one of the girls landed right in front of her, showing a display of enthusiasm she had honestly not expected. She also found it rather ironic that a magical girl, a person who frequently hunts down Witches, was dressed like a traditional image of a witch. She supposed it wasn't exactly her choice, Gale hadn't chosen her own costume either for a start. What was even more surpsising though was the girl's offer for them to team up together, explaining that the city had a high number of Witches.

[b]"You want to team up?"[/b] Gale repeated, more as a way of confirming to herself about what she'd heard.

She hesitated at first, she had only just met these two after all and along with the other girl there she wasn't entirely sure if these were the sort of people she wanted to team up with, not to mention these were the first magical girls she'd met. She thought back to her conversation she'd had with Kyubey earlier.

[i]"Usually a group will only form if an especially powerful Witch appears that is too strong for a single magical girl to take out on her own."[/i]

Upon remembering this Gale felt her stomach turn slightly, she was still relitively a newbie and the prospect of going against a Witch powerful enough to take on a whole group of magical girls unnerved her greatly. The witch girl hadn't mentioned anything about any super powerful Witches though and she seemed offly enthusiastic about all this, unlike her partner who more fitted in with the personality Gale had been expecting after the conversation she'd had with Kyubey.

[b]"I... I guess I can join,"[/b] she said, somewhat reluctantly [b]"I'm still rather new at this though so, I don't know if I'll be of any help of not."[/b]

She glanced back at the other two as the girl with the scythes practically threatened the girl that had come in with Gale (she really needed to learn their names, this was getting confusing), she wasn't sure she liked the idea of teaming up with either of the two.

Kuro stared as Sheibra with a flabbergasted expression as she walked off, and then as Tsume cut her off with her usual coldness. She sighed and shook her head, before glancing at an extra Kyubey and merely nodding to confirm her identity to him. He shouldn't have ever even doubted it, being him. Afterwards, a human appeared right out of nowhere and awkwardly greeted them, who could apparently see magical girls. This randomness...well, it was weird, but one of the best opportunities she'd ever had in the past two months.

"Hey, it's alright! To be honest, I'm really weak myself as a magical girl!" Kuro comforted Gale, laughing. "Oh, but try to endure Tsume's harshness. She's probably gonna terrorize you into shape or something~...and my name, as Kyubey said graciously just now, is Kuroyuki Epsilon. But just call me Kuro."

Finally, she approached the newcomer human, and in a sudden burst of light returned into her witch costume, her magical girl outfit.

[i]"Greetings, human!!! I am the super-idol Blacksnow from the planet Jupiter, sent here to recruit humans as my newest magical girl band members..."[/i] She trailed off into a giggle, before shaking her head to regain her composure. "Alright, alright, in all seriousness, I bet Kyubey led you here, right? Well, we're magical girls, defenders of the people! In exchange for a wish we have granted - any wish at all - we gain magical superpowers, allowing us to fight against the evil witches...you get what I'm saying?"

If Tsume made a comparison, she seemed like a completely different person from who she had been just five minutes ago.

I shouldn't have to listen to [i]you[/i]... [i]or[/i] that Koruyaki or whoever the hell she is! The only thing person who [i]should[/i] get to boss me around is [i]myself[/i]. Now... what I'm gonna do, is I'm gonna keep walking down this road. And if you even so much as [i]think[/i] about trying to stop me, then I'll make [i]sure[/i] [/color][color=#A52A2A]you're the first to burn to a crisp."[/color]

[color=#000000]With that said, Sheibra turned back round and kept going. True, she was effectively sealing her own fate by abandoning the group, but she didn't give a rat's [i]ass[/i] about that. All she cared about was keeping her distance from the other Magical Girls, and killing off the witches in peace.[/color]

[color=#000000]Just as Sheibra left, the Kyubey that had addressed Kuro had decided to approach Tsume this time, having heard the commotion between the two Magical Girls. He would have to return to Kuro at [i]some[/i] point so that he could relay his message, but she seemed to be busy talking to Yeumara.[/color]

[color=#008080]"And how [i]exactly[/i] is one meant to swallow pride [i]anyway[/i]?"[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey asked, [/color][color=#008080]"Last time I checked, pride wasn't even a tangible [i]object[/i], let alone an item of food or drink..."[/color]

[color=#000000]Everything after the words "Alright, alright, in all seriousness..." flew [i]straight[/i] over Yeumara's head... well, maybe not [i]everything[/i], but certainly a ton of keywords, such as... Kyubey. Defenders. Granted. Superpowers. Fight. And most detrimentally, specifically for Kuro's case: Evil. On top of that, although she wasn't dumb enough to seriously believe Kuro was from Jupiter, Yeumara [i]did[/i] still think she was a super-idol... by the name of Blacksnow.[/color]

[color=#ffa07a]"Well, not [i]exactly[/i], I um..."[/color][color=#000000] Yeumara replied in a wishy-washy tone, before turning to the Kyubey that was with her, [/color][color=#ffa07a]"Didn't you say something about signing a [i]contract[/i]?"[/color]

[color=#008080]"[i]Making[/i] a contract,"[/color] [color=#000000]Kyubey corrected her, before answering the question, [/color][color=#008080]"And yes, that's how it works in a nutshell. [i]You[/i] make the wish and [i]I[/i] [/color][color=#008080]make the contract."[/color]

Tsume wasn't the least bit surprised that Sheibra rejected the offer. She had hoped to appeal to what little reason Sheibra might have, but that apparently was a futile effort. She started to rejoin Kuro and the others when Kyubey, of all beings, decided to approach her. She stared at the creature, wondering if this was truly the first time it had ever heard the expression, or if it was simply baiting her, hoping to get some sort of reaction. She thought that, with all of the Kyubeys she had disposed of during her three decades as a Magical Girl, that these monsters would comprehend the fact that she hated them, especially everything that they stood for. One of the hopes she clung to that kept her from being swallowed up by despair was that they would just leave her alone, but that was not the case. Regardless, she decided to humor the alien. [color=#800080]"Swallowing one's pride is an expression. An idiom. A phrase with a figurative meaning. What I was telling her is to not consider her pride as important as she thinks it is, and to accept something she knows she dislikes. I myself am swallowing my pride working with you and Kuro. I do not want to be a part of your team, because I do not agree with some of your practices, but I must, as we share a common foe: Hurricane Hallow, and I cannot hope to defeat such a powerful Witch on my own. Does that make any sense to you?" [/color]

Gale was starting to get used to the girl's attitude, she had been taken by surprise at first but at least she wasn't rude or critical, she still wasn't so sure about the other girl, Tsume.

[b]"I see,"[/b] Gale replied, forcing a half smile as Kuro introduced herself [b]"In that case, you can call me Gale."[/b]

She glanced back briefly towards Tsume and the other girl who appeared to have ignored Tsume's threat completely and simply walked off. Gale would admit that she was somewhat relieved, she wasn't too keen on teaming up with someone like her, though Tsume herself wasn't much different. She turned her attention back to Kuro who now seemed to be talking to another girl who apparently seemed to be another magical girl candidate, and if Gale was to be rather blunt she didn't seem to be a very bright one, though Gale wasn't the sort to critizice other people.

[b]"It's... Not really a physical thing,"[/b] she said [b]"It's more like... Um... Here I'll show you."[/b] Gale returned back to her human form, her clothes becoming covered in soft green light before shrinking down into her Soul Gem and returning her clothes to normal. [b]"See, when you make a contract with Kyubey you get a Soul Gem, like this one,"[/b] she explained, holding the green crystal out [b]"And you can then use that to access your magical powers... Um, does that make sense?"[/b]

[color=#008080]"She wouldn't [i]allow[/i] it if she was smart,"[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey answered [i]for[/i] the girl, [/color][color=#008080]"It [/color][i][color=#008080]is[/color] [/i][color=#008080]the source of her power after all,"[/color]

[color=#FFA07A]"Awww, but I [i]love[/i] emeralds,"[/color][color=#000000] Yeumara whined.[/color]

[color=#008080]"You [i]do[/i] realize that you can get your [i]own[/i] Soul Gem, albeit a different coloured one, just by making your wish, right?"[/color][color=#000000] [/color][color=#000000]Kyubey asked out of the blue.[/color]

[color=#000000]Yeumara pouted for a second, before coming across an epiphany. It had taken her 2 attempts of being recruited by Kyubey, including this one, that were that were about 4 months apart from one another, but [i]now[/i] she was starting to understand what it meant to be a Magical Girl... [i]almost[/i].[/color]

[color=#FFA07A]"So let me get this straight; [i]Magical[/i] Girls bring hope to this world, and witches bring despair..."[/color][color=#000000] Yeumara mused aloud, [/color][color=#FFA07A]"...and they do all this by [i]singing[/i][/color][color=#FFA07A]?"[/color]

[color=#000000]Kyubey was nodding along in acknowledgement with the [/color][i]first[/i][color=#000000] sentence that Yeumara made, but completely froze when she made the second, giving her nothing but a cold, blank stare in return. A moment later, he immediately turned to the two others that had approached Yeumara.[/color]

[color=#008080]"Did either of you know that if this girl was even the [/color][color=#008080][i]slightest[/i][/color][color=#008080] bit more competent, she would've been a Magical Girl 4 [i]months[/i] ago?"[/color][color=#000000] he asked trivially.[/color]

"It's alright, Kyubey, I'll handle this." Kuro replied, and smiled at Yeumara. "Although not all of us sing, usually we utilize weapons and tons of different abilities, it's possible! Let's say you made a wish related to getting a better voice, like [i]'I wish I had an amazing singing voice'[/i] or [i]'I wish everyone would be impressed by my singing!'[/i], you'll probably gain some ability that allows you to sing witches to death, soothe people by singing, etcetera, etcetera..."

At this, the witch-like magical girl realized something. Let's say, hypothetically, such a girl did end up on their team - that would help her, A LOT, in keeping everyone together for the next three days without anyone turning into a witch. She should've thought of it long ago; to make a girl contract specifically to cheer other magical girls up. But the past was the past...and the present is the present.

"Get it now~?"

Tsume noticed the look on Kuro's face, and knew she just stumbled upon the potential applications of a "cheerleader" Magical Girl. Sadly, Tsume had already worked on a team with such a Magical Girl. She was a positive thinker who wanted others around her to stop being so grumpy, so she gained the power to cheer everyone up. Unfortunately, her effects dispelled when she took a bladed appendage of a Witch to the gut, and another member, who had been suffering from depression, but had managed to hold it together until then, finally broke and fell into despair. Now THAT was an interesting sight, watching a Barrier form INSIDE of a pre-existing Barrier, clash with the first Barrier, and the newly-born Witch within start competing with the Witch whom she was fighting as a Magical Girl only moments beforehand. Tsume drifted out of Memory Lane and went up to Kuro. [color=#800080]"Excuse me, but do you still have that Grief Seed from that Witch I killed? I believe it is rightfully mine."[/color]

As Sheibra strolled through the streets of Lotus City, she suddenly stumbled across a Magical Girl. "Help, help!" The newcomer cried out, with long, flowing black hair, grey eyes that seemed a bit distant, pale skin, and a black outfit that had a Gothic Lolita and a spiderweb theme to it. "You're a Magical Girl, right? Please, you have to help me! There's a Witch nearby, and there's another Magical Girl who's in deep trouble! You have to go save her!" The poor girl begins to tear up. "Please, I beg of you! Save her! You have to save her!"

Gale instictively clutched her gem to her chest upon the girl's reaction, after all her gem wasn't something she wanted to give up so easily, though she felt perhaps as if she was overreacting, this girl had no way of knowing how important a Soul Gem was to a magical girl after all.

[b]"Um...Like I said, you get your own when you make the contract,"[/b] she said quickly [b]"I'm not sure if it'll be green or not though, actually I'm not sure what exactly detirmines what colour your gem is."[/b] She opened her hands to examine the green crystal, the glow from it reflecting on her face and turning it slightly green.

"It's mostly based on the nature of your wish and your own personality," Kyubey explained "The appearance clothes you wear when you become a magical girl are also detirmined by the same factor, so if you're fond of the colour green then it is very possible that your Soul Gem will be green."

Gale gave Kyubey an akward smile, it had actually been a rehtorical statement after all and she hadn't actually requested an answer, though she didn't expect Kyubey to understand that.

[b]"Actually, I don't think we've all been properly introduced yet,"[/b] Gale said [b]"I'm Meiko Gale Hiroku, but you can just call me Gale, I'm half Japanese and half American so my parents gave me two first names... But, yeah, it's a pleasure to meet you."[/b] She extended one hand out to Yeumara, using the other one to keep a tight hold of her Soul Gem.

Maiya knew every secret way out of her family manor, she had snuck in and out enough times and even brought company on the odd occasion, the real trick was getting across the garden without being seen. Her father's study had a large window overlooking the garden after all and all he'd need to do was turn around and look out to spot her crossing it. She tended to keep to the outskirts, hiding behind bushes shaped like swans or lions every time she thought her father might look outside. Eventually she made it to the old oak tree at the back of the garden that grew up over the wall, Maiya had climbed it dozens of times and knew exactly which branches were the best way to get up, even if the servants did spot her and chase her this far they'd never be able to get up this tree as fast as she could.

Maiya began climbing, placing one boot on a rather small low hanging branch and then using that as a boost to reach the much thicker branch above her head. She soon scrambled up the tree till she was level with the top of the wall and made to hop over, it wasn't that far to the ground and she'd done this enough times that a sudden seven foot drop was nothing. As she was about to make her way over she spotted something sitting on the wall and staring at her, she gave a slight start and almost fell backwards out of the tree but managed to catch herself just in time. She sat there for a moment, examening the strange white creature staring at her, its tail lolling back and forth in an almost hypnotic fashion.

[b]"Curious, I do not believe I have ever seen a cat such as you,"[/b] she said aloud, her manner and accent easily betraying her high class.

"I hate to correct you, but I am not a cat, my name is Kyubey and I have an offer for you,"

Maiya let out another cry of surprise, the cat had spoken, except its mouth hadn't even moved in fact the creature had barely budged at all.

"Try not to be alarmed," the creature continued "I'm only using telepathy. I've seen the potential you have and I want to make a contract with you."

[b]"What manner of contract?"[/b] Maiya asked, finding it hard to believe that she was talking to a cat like this.

"I'll grant your deepest wish and in exchange you become a magical girl," Kyubey replied.

[color=#000000]A tall, reasonably busty Magical Girl stood alone on a beach, overlooking the ocean with her weapon of choice, a halberd, being up straight onto the grainy sand with her right arm, which had been covered by a steel grey gauntlet. A shield was strapped onto the left forearm, also covered by a steel grey gauntlet, with a handlebar reaching across the hand. The girl's wavy blue hair was resting along a brown cape she wore, and had descended all the down a good length of her black, thigh-high boots until a northerly breeze had picked up, blowing her hair and cape to the left. Also being blown by the breeze was her red skirt, which was overlaid by a steel grey armoured corset. A sense of regret could be seen in her aquamarine eyes, which gazed at the horizon that was lined by a vast, sparkling ocean and a sunny blue sky.[/color]

[color=#000000]This was Galina Hikari, sheer [i]minutes[/i] before she fell into despair, and transformed into the witch that was now known as Lerna. Galina had come here to contemplate on what she was [i]thinking[/i] by encouraging Elison to become a Magical Girl, without taking into consideration of what that meant for [i]her[/i]. While it was true that she made a wish to protect Elison forever, Galina had [i]made[/i] that wish with [i]her[/i] being the benefactor in mind. It made her feel useful in life, and that feeling was the only thing that kept her from falling into despair. Little did she know that that feeling what about to disintegrate before her very eyes.[/color]

[color=#008080]"Hey, Galina!"[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey exclaimed to get Galina's attention.[/color]

[color=#40e0d0]"Kyubey?" [/color][color=#000000]Galina turned to her left, [/color][color=#40E0D0]"What is it?"[/color]

[color=#008080]"Good news,"[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey stated, [/color][color=#008080]"Elison's a Magical Girl now..."[/color]

[color=#40e0d0]"W-... WHAT??!!"[/color][color=#000000] Galina shrieked. Her face had become white with shock, having become [i]paralysed[/i] by what she'd just heard. And yet Kyubey considered this to be good news. He tried to coax her out of her stupor, but Galina was having none of it. Instead, she stripped herself of her arms and clothing, before tossing a corrupting turquoise Soul Gem at Kyubey's feet, and slowly retreating backwards into the ocean. Galina only managed a few steps, before suddenly fainting, splashing into the depths of the oceans, and transforming before she could drown.[/spoiler][/color]

[color=#000000]Elison couldn't believe what she was seeing. She couldn't wrap her brain around Galina having let herself [i]go[/i] like that, and it was all down to Elison having become a Magical Girl. She didn't know [i]what[/i] to think. Instead, she instinctively looked up at Lerna, and tried to stutter out an apology.[/color]

[color=#ee82ee]"Lerna, I... I KNEW IT!!" [/color][color=#000000]Elison screamed in desperation, [/color][color=#ee82ee]"I [i]knew[/i] it was my fault! I'm sorry! How in the hell am I supposed to make [i]up[/i] for something like that?!"[/color]

[color=#000000]From there, she broke down into tears, but the Troys that had accompanied Lerna dispersed, while Lerna herself had opened up a portal to the real world; one that would lead Elison back into the streets of Lotus City, in a remote location. The portal appeared Elison, just as the Troys returned with a new message.[/color]

If she were to go through, she'd probably have a 60-second window to get a Soul Gem. But was that enough time?[/color]

[color=#000000]Sheibra continued to drag the girl down the path that she saw her come from, only to stop short from anywhere [/color][i][color=#000000]near[/color] [/i][color=#000000]the barrier.[/color]

[color=#FFA07A]"Well [i]that's[/i] weird,"[/color][color=#000000] Yeumara blurted out randomly, before returning a smile to her face, [/color][color=#ffa07a]"Well [i]anyways[/i][/color][color=#FFA07A], I'm Yeumara. Nice to meet you too."[/color]

[color=#000000]It was about this time that Kuro explained how wishes really worked, much to Yeumara's acknowledgement. Although she had one more question.[/color]

[color=#ffa07a]"Wait... why would I wish for a better voice, for?"[/color][color=#000000] she asked, [/color][color=#FFA07A]"What's wrong with...?"[/color]

[color=#008080]"I heard the problem [i]first-hand[/i],"[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey mentioned, [/color][color=#008080]"I should know,"[/color]

Kuro tossed the Grief Seed over to Tsume after partially purifying her own Soul Gem with it. She didn't clean up the whole thing, since she still wanted some remaining for Gale to use. The average Grief Seeds is only enough to purify two Soul Gems, which tends to be one of the biggest conflicts in any potential magical girl team. For now, she could spare wholly purifying her own Soul Gem with it, although she wouldn't quite be able to participate in the next witch battle as she did in this one.

Then, when the girl candidate - Yeumara - questioned her own talent, that was when she realized that this girl was really, really ignorant of herself and her surroundings. She might not have even noticed the hurricane two months ago. But at least now, after four months, she was finally comprehending what Kyubey had been trying to tell her.

And so the girl started singing.

Kuro wore a warm smile on her face as she sang, waiting for her to finish.

"Well, you sing a lot better than me, Mara-chan~" She laughed out, perhaps much to the others' surprise. Well, as nobody had ever heard Kuroyuki sing, it was only a wonder. "Is it okay if I call you that? Anyway, it was just a statement. You can wish for anything you like, and it doesn't have to be related to your voice."

[color=#000000][color=#008080]"Kuro, by ordinary human standards, her singing voice is absolutely horrible." [/color][/color]Kyubey interjected. [color=#000000][color=#008080]"And my assumption is correct, as her audience tends to pelt her with objects whenever she tries to perform."[/color][/color]

"Oh?" Kuro tilted her head. "I don't get it, but if [i]you[/i] of all people think it's bad, Kyubey...then I guess it is. Sorry, Mara-chan."

On the other side of Lotus City, a lone street corner had been wrecked to exhaustion. Advertisements were shredded and torn, with nothing but tiny pieces remaining to be carried off by the wind. Multiple crushed corpses were absorbed into a strange force, disappearing without a trace. In the center of it all, a small black orb that went about like a bee, highly patient, yet growing ever the more impatient at the same time.

A curious little white cat appeared out of a corner, but then again, it wasn't a cat. It was an alien creature.

[color=#000000][color=#008080]"I don't get your actions. What exactly are you trying to achieve?" [/color][/color]Kyubey asked the orb. [color=#000000][color=#008080]"If you're hoping to gain nutrition, you feed on the despair of people, which you haven't done at all."[/color][/color]

[color=#000000][color=#008080]"I don't understand."[/color][/color]

Then the feline creature approached the witch, before being absorbed into the barrier within.

[color=#000000]Elison continued to repeat the countdown in her head, as if she needed a reminder of how much time she needed to get herself a Grief Seed. And yet she still didn't act on it. Instead, she continued to contemplate what it meant to be a pregnant Magical Girl. Was Elison doomed to endanger her own unborn child for the duration of her pregnancy? Was there a way out? And if there was, what price would she have to pay to get there?[/color]

[color=#000000]Undoubtedly, Lerna was getting rather impatient. The longer she kept that portal open for Elison, the more likely that someone [i]else[/i], whether that be human or Magical Girl, would arrive at her doorstep. Lerna wasn't in the mood for unwelcome visitors, but that just [i]might[/i] have been what she was [i]in[/i] for.[/color]

[color=#000000]...[/color]

[color=#FFA07A]"Oh, you mean you were just giving an example?"[/color] [color=#000000]Yeumara guessed,[/color] [color=#ffa07a]"I-I knew [i]that[/i]. I was just wondering... aloud. I tend to do that."[/color]

[color=#000000]She chuckled nervously, but Yeumara, now thinking she said something awkward, slowly backed away from Kuro and Gale. She continued to step backwards until...[/color]

[color=#008080]"Behind you, Yeumara,"[/color][color=#000000] as soon as Kyubey said, Yeumara looked over her shoulder, and was startled by what she was about to walk backwards [i]into[/i]; it turned out that a barrier had slowly come to form behind her. Yeumara jumped forward again, and landed on her tippy-toes, waving her arms desperately in an attempt to stop herself from falling over, only to wind up flat on her [i]face[/i] in a less than dignified manner, just short of Kyubey's current location.[/color]

[color=#ffa07a]"Ow,"[/color][color=#000000] Yeumara muttered, before slowly sitting back up, and nervously looking over to the barrier, [/color][color=#ffa07a]"Um, Kyubey? Was [i]this[/i] [/color][color=#FFA07A]what you wanted to show me?"[/color]

[color=#008080]"Yes it was; [i]that[/i] is a barrier, which often leads those who enter into a face-to-face confrontation with a witch,"[/color][color=#000000] Kyubey explained, [/color][color=#008080]"But... why's it suddenly here [i]now[/i][/color][color=#008080]?"[/color]

[color=#000000]Yeumara usually shrugged her shoulders whenever Kyubey asked a question, but this time was different. She'd put on a brave face, and slowly approached the barrier, unaware that it would lead her, and probably Kuro and the others should they follow, straight into Lerna's rather unwelcoming arms.[/color]

[color=#ffa07a]"Well, there's only one way to find out, I suppose,"[/color][color=#000000] said Yeumara, before she entered the barrier.[/color]

"Hey, it's perfectly alright, being a magical girl is... MARA-CHAN-" Kuro cut herself off.

Awitch barrier unexpectedly materialized out of nowhere behind Yeumara, her Soul Gem suddenly lighting up after staying still. She didn't start straightaway, hesitating for a moment, as it couldn't honestly be real, could it? But she could feel its presence, her special ability gradually turning on, meaning it really was there. Then she broke off into a run, but before even getting past two steps, the singer had already gone within. Without even waiting to see if Tsume or Gale would follow, although she hoped they did since she was unable to fight any witches in her current state, she jumped in, quickly re-transforming into a witch costume, a broomstick materializing within her left hand.

Everything was above a rather still, dark ocean. Ominous. It wasn't like the others, this witch barrier, the data collected differently. It confused Kuro for a moment. What was it that set this labyrinth apart from the others...? Everything was strange. This witch, it was different, it had an [i]active[/i] purpose and was waiting...for...someone... but who? A friend? A lover? Despite trying to focus, the data only scrambled as if aware she was tapping into them. It was like a scientist trying to take a sample from a bee's nest, compared to the usual stillness.

There's one thing here who would know the cause first-hand, however.

"Kyubey, w-... what is this witch?" Kuro asked the creature, beginning with a panicked tone but eased into a calmer one as she remembered that a candidate was present.

[color=#008080]"It's waiting."[/color] He replied. [color=#008080]"You have about one minute to save Hikari from her fate."[/color]

After hearing this, the magical girl looked hesitantly deeper into the barrier, tiles being the only thing leading into it. But of course, if one were to trip or something and fall, they would never come back up again. A Puella Magi could easily traverse the panels without difficulty, but as for Yeumara...

"It might be a bit uncomfortable, and you're gonna have to hold onto me at all times, but get on." Kuro told her, spinning her broomstick in the air before putting her broomstick between her legs. By flying, the two of them should bypass the tiles as well as any familiar, making it safe for them to go around without being in danger or expanding unnecessary energy. "As a note, being a magical girl is [i]not[/i] normally like this. This witch...is kind of different, Mara-chan."

Kyubey's words were mysterious in and of themselves. Who was Hikari? And if she was a magical girl, and they managed to defeat the witch here...they might gain the potential ally they lost in Sheibra. Everything was convenient, except for the nature of the witch itself. Why did it feel so...powerful?

Gale nodded along with Kuro's explanation but remained clutching her gem defensively. She was taken by surprise once Yeumara started singing spontaneously, she had been spouting before about her apparently great singing voice, in reality it was... well Gale wasn't really trying to judge, she herself was no stranger to critisism and she found it just as hard to say harsh things to others as she did to take them.

[b]"It... wasn't bad..."[/b] She said slowly.

She gave a rather nervous smile, trying her best not to give a bad first impression to the first other magical girls (and magical girl canditate) that she'd encountered. It was at that point that she spotted the barrier beginning to open behind Yeumara, she had been so caught up that she hadn't even noticed it before now.

[b]"Yeumara-San, behind you!"[/b] She said, but Yeumara had already stepped through it.

She quickly followed Yuemara and Kuro through the barrier, transforming into her magical girl form as fast as possible as she entered the barrier. She took a moment to examine her surroundings, hearing Kuro's comment about it being somehow different. She summoned Gust and allowed it to grow large enough for her to stand on and quickly hopped on board using the weapon to float above the tiles, she had learned quickly not to trust her surroundings and fully expected the tiles to collapse beneath her.

[b]"What do we do now, I don't see the Witch anywhere and we can't fight while keeping Yeumara-San safe,"[/b] she said, before now she had taken on all her Witches solo and was unused to working in a team.

Tsume took the Grief Seed and started to use it to purify her own Soul Gem, the purple and gold emblem starting to shine as the darkness within receded. However, the other started some commotion regarding another Witch, and Tsume followed them, only to find herself with the others on some sort of beach, overlooking a dark ocean. The monster accompanying them stated that there was a Magical Girl needing help. Tsume looked at the mostly-gone Grief Seed in her hand, and the partly-purified Soul Gem in the other, and swore under her breath as she closed her eyes, extending her Magical Vision to try and find the Magical Girl. It would be close, but she just might be able to make it in time...

[color=#000000]Yeumara hopped on the broomstick and held on as instructed, but she had taken some time to enjoy the view, and observe her surroundings inside the labyrinth. Unlike the Magical Girls, who had probably only entered to make sure she was OK, Yeumara's eyes lit up in astonishment, and she wore a beaming smile to fit.[/color]

[color=#FFA07A]"Wow. This... is... so... [i]cool[/i]!"[/color][color=#000000] she exclaimed in amazement, before reaching in her pocket for her cell-phone, [/color][color=#FFA07A]"I've [i]so[/i] [/color][color=#FFA07A]gotta take a few pictures of this place,"[/color]

[color=#000000]It was obvious in her tone of voice that Yeumara wasn't really thinking about the dangers in this place. The others would probably just have to keep their eyes peeled.[/color]

[color=#000000]Elison had finally made up her mind, but before she could take any steps forward, the portal she was about to go through had suddenly disappeared. She could only hazard a guess that Lerna had closed it on her for some reason, and that she had done so because she was tired of waiting.[/color]

[color=#EE82EE]"Hey! Why did you...?!"[/color][color=#000000] Elison started asking, before realizing she was talking to an angry Lerna, [/color][color=#EE82EE]"Ugh... Lerna? Is something wrong?"[/color]

[color=#000000]All of Lerna's heads, except the one on her tail, were all facing the far yonder of the labyrinth, and the ones on her arms were each emitting a dragonic snarl, with one letting out a barking roar every now and again. She had sensed that the Magical Girls had entered her labyrinth, and also that Yeumara was there [i]with[/i] them. As far as Lerna could discern at this stage, the Magical Girls could [i]very well[/i] be aiming to teach the human girl how they fought and killed witches, as if it were some kind of [i]game[/i] to them. The mere thought of this was enough to enrage Lerna, although it was rather rash an assumption to make... for [i]any[/i] conscious being. She used her main head to look over her shoulder, just as some Troys arrived for her to explain the situation to Elison.[/color]

If [b]they[/b] try to attack her, then she'll only reckon that she has no choice but to fight back, and [b]that[/b] could only mean...!'[/i][/color]

[color=#000000]She remembered the [i]last[/i] battle between Lerna and a Magical Girl vividly, with the former winning by a landslide. That in turn gave Elison the incentive to chase after Lerna, trying to stick to traversing across the dark tiles. She was unfit to begin with, and her unborn child was only weighing her down, but she pressed on nonetheless, feeling as though she [i]had[/i] to warn the Magical Girls. Unfortunately, Lerna was bound to approach them first; it was only a matter of time.[/color]

Maiya followed the strange creature down the street occassionally glancing up at any bystanders they happened to pass none of which showed the slightest reaction to the strange white creature walking past them, Maiya found this incredibly odd given Kyubey's strange appearance, even if someone just barely noticed him they'd surely be able to spot the oddities of his appearance.

"They can't actually see me," Kyubey replied in answer to an unasked question "Only magical girls or those with the potential to become one can see me, it helps me better pick out candidates as well as move around easier, can you imagine how hard it would be to get around if everyone stopped to stare at you?"

[b]"I can only imagine,"[/b] Maiya muttered in reply [b]"I'm afraid I still find all this very hard to believe,"[/b]

"Am I not proof enough for you?" Kyubey asked.

[b]"I'm afriad your mere existence, while extrodinary, does not give credit to your other claims,"[/b] Maiya replied [b]"You may be a talking cat but I find it very hard to believe you can grant wishes, not to mention these magical girls and witches you keep going on about are even harder for me to believe."[/b]

"Very well then, how about I prove it to you?" Kyubey asked.

Before Maiya could ask Kyubey suddenly bolted down the street forcing Maiya to chase after him, against her better judgement, she didn't know what it was about this creature but despite his adorable appearance and friendly demeaner there was something about him that set Maiya on edge.

Tsume finally discovered the location of the Magical Girl in distress, as well as...well, if that monstrous thing near her could be considered a Witch, then it certainly was one of the largest Witches Tsume had ever encountered. Furthermore...wait...that Magical Girl was rather rotund...was she pregnant?!? Tsume blinked and shut off her Magical Vision as she tried to process that, eventually deciding to cross that bridge when she came to it. As she hopped from platform to platform, Tsume noticed that the odd Familiars weren't even paying attention to her. They just seemed to be collecting what appeared to be the same strange runes Witches had in their Barriers. From her experience, Tsume knew that Familiars came in different personality types, and these would not attack her unless she initiated hostilities, so as long as she let them be, they would reciprocate. She gritted her teeth and pushed herself as hard as she could, praying to whatever gods might be out there that she would make it to that girl and her unborn child.
