Night
We've needed something like this forever, threads tend to get an abundant amount of 'spam' merely due to the fact it's the only time we artists interact, this thread will fill that role and allow for off topic discussion to be valued rather than frowned upon. Try and keep it graphic design related, however this is still a thread established to provoke free thought.
.Rai
Well, let's start with the fact that I have genuinely no clue why Showcase slips in and out of activity. I wish we had a couple of new members.
Catman25
The fact that this site isn't graphics-oriented probably has something to do with that.
Yondaime
I believe that it has something to do with the fact that everyone is getting older and has to focus more on their life rather than a forum. Besides that I think it's still difficult for even the younger members to be active because they have school.
Spellcaster2000
Well I enjoy spriting. Does anybody want any tutorials similair to Jappio's but for a different form? Post, post, post!
Simping For Hina
It really doesn't matter on activity of the entire forum. We just need some new frequentors here and the old ones need to help out. Above is a perfect example of what could help this. Introducing the different types of art in a tutorial or introduction of idea would be a nice way to get that done. Something on Spriting, Tags, Logos, CIs is a way that helps to push people into wanting to do something.
chairman ali
That's a negative. Tags, large art, paintings and all those medias require some articulate method to do and require time. I have loads of works that I haven't uploaded. Why? Because they are studies, practice and reference replicas. I wouldn't post them online. I'd have them used for my own benefits to learn where I went wrong, how I went wrong and the possible ways of fixing it whilst next time around. Artists generally get bored of seeing the same designs, styles and stocks -used in tags/lps- over and over. The only way we could bump the activity is by promoting members to follow up new styles. This will help them experiment and achieve. Experimentations leads to them posting it on here for us to critique. That my friends sound like what we should be doing. You've fallen behind; get up and shake that rust off of you. Be an original thinker, a trailblazer, not a pathfinder. You set the path and let others follow. Night
From my recollection, we excel best when there is a lot of us posting new pieces and having every thread full of at least 6 or so posts of well developed critique, I agree with Alee's point, in the past it's been evident that when one artist finds a new style or gets a boost in skill everyone in turn is enlightened which then incites more and more pieces to pop up. It's all about opening your program once a day, creating something, then posting it here whilst providing critique for the other pieces, don't wait around for others, take the initiative, be the one to inspire others to become active. In other news: I took up the sections layout issue on the staff forum, expect a change in the forum structure. With any luck, we should be reverting back to the old layout that we all know and love. Catman25
That's essentially my problem with posting. We tend to stick with styles we are comfortable with and everyone typically bores of seeing them after awhile. Moving on to a new style with a piece that's actually post-worthy for me is easier said than done.
Night
Does rewarding someone on frequent thread creation sound like a viable option? If so, a system can be instated to cater to those ideals. Something I've seen on popular gfx forums is the 30-day challenge, in which artists are encouraged to create a piece every day for the entirety of a month. Usually by the end of it, the artist sees a major skill boost. Will this be ideal in our situation? Probably, probably not, the point is that even though I enjoy being the one to constantly be the 'innovator' and bring forth something new to showcase, especially when it actually proves successful, I did that regardless of the position, don't be dissuaded to bring something new to showcase. Regardless, I'm sure we'll be fine once we start actually making tags frequently, at it's core that's what it's about.

Catman25
Well with the recent influx of icon makers (who may or may not be interested in other forms of design), I think numbers shouldn't be a problem. But good point.
LCÂ
I'd be interested in it. Though what would we do with said teams? Various different art style competitions? Team showcases?
Night
It will only work if we get the others who aren't currently active back. At best, we'll have to wait a few days for them to flow back in.
Catman25
Although it wouldn't be the same without some of the vets, I think it'll still work. Haven't seen 25 or Rain in a while anyways.

Catman25
Okay, so with participating actives/tbds totaling to +10, we could do like 2 large teams, or maybe like 3 teams of 3 or 4.

Tormented
Doing a contest might help us out a bit. I reckon If we had 2 large teams I'd be much more balanced and fair.

Catman25
So if we were to do two teams, how would everyone be split up? Either we select leaders and have everyone else apply, or allocate everyone from the beginning and have any latecomers apply at their leisure.
Tormented
Yeah selecting two leaders and they can decide why they want between themselves over PM or something and then whoever decides to come late can either ask for a invite to whatever team of their choice.
Catman25
Given two leaders, I assume the other members would say which side they'd want to go to, and then the two heads could decide based upon the initial counts. I think avoiding the kickball selection process would be better.
