Curious about Profile Backgrounds

Quick questions, from Me, on a few things~
1- How long does it usually take, for said background to take effect and actually appear?
2- Despite not having a file size listed, whats a preferred file and/or image size?
3- Do .gif backgrounds actually animate?

Didn't really see a topic on this, so figured I would ask.

I dunno. Usually instantly, like an avi, I'm guessing.

I assume it's png and jpg. For preferred size, you can make it repeat like a background, which is what I think looks coolest TBQH.

My second background took ages to start working, so it's not completely instant.

Alright, so the load time for each background is different.
All I really wanted to know.
