gimmepie
With you guys there numb is a great song. It is interesting seeing how other people interoperate songs and what people can define as a sad song.
Susie
Tell me about it. I remember the first time I heard it, I nearly cried. And I can't really relate to the lyrics either. It is just a beautiful song.
There's a whole lot of feeling around it. The chords are amazing and the lyrics are just so nice, and his vocals I find fit quite well. And also here's another one that's nice:
Aerion Brightflame
My list: Ain't No reason - Brett Damon How to Save a Life - The Fray Pretty much every Script song I own 1973 - James Blunt Sing for the moment, Mockingbird - Eminem. Goodnight, Goodnight - Maroon 5 The A team, Small Bump - Ed Sherran. There probably a lot of others, but these are the songs I listen to in my darkest moments as they match my mood, or just make me sad. I can link if anyone wants a listen. Susie
I just listened to that James Blunt song, wow it's nice but Goodbye My Lover was way more sad than that one, at least to me it was. And I give you guys one from the master himself, Vangelis
Aerion Brightflame
1973 isn't the saddest, but it has some bad associated memories for me. This one is also very sad: And yes, Scrubs influenced my music tastes.
Northern Sage
We can't mention Blunt without his true tear jerker song:
Aerion Brightflame
I don't find Tears and Rain that sad compared to Goodbye my Lover. Thats just me though. Suprised to see people mentioning Numb earlier. Its an emotional song, but I don't consider it sad. People have quite cool views it seems.
Susie
^Agreeing with that Anyways seeming towards how acoustic stuff is popular on here these two songs are completely necessary. Aerion Brightflame
Oh so many memories. This is an odd choice, given how it normally is, but I find this version of Makes Me wonder by Maroon 5 so touching: Amazing how one song can be so different with so few changes. Susie
Meh, I'm quite surprised that Johnny Cash hasn't been brought up yet. The cover he did of NIN is deserving of the sad title
CinnamonStar
I just listened to that James Blunt song, wow it's nice but Goodbye My Lover was way more sad than that one, at least to me it was. And I give you guys one from the master himself, Vangelis

oh yeah Vangelis <3 If you're into space-y stuff, although with stronger electronic elements here, this is also quite emotional. Especially the lyrics, they always get to me. The saddest James Blunt song IMO is 'You're Beautiful'. lol. But he's sort of the king of whine stuff, so yeah.^^ Herbert Grönemeyer is also pretty emotional, although I've never been too big on him. Do you understand what he sings about, Tama? EliminateHRN
There's a whole lot of feeling around it. The chords are amazing and the lyrics are just so nice, and his vocals I find fit quite well.
I agree. The lyrics get even better once you find out the reason behind them. The song is just beautiful. Also, I can't believe I forget Hurt by Johnny Cash. I don't even know how to describe it. In my opinion, I think both Johnny Cash's cover version and the original version by Nine Inch Nails deserve to be listed since they are both really beautiful songs.
How to Save a Life - The Fray Pretty much every Script song I own Sing for the moment, Mockingbird - Eminem. The A team - Ed Sherran.
I agree with these. I have to say Eminem has some very sad songs and I could list quite a few of them. My favorite rapper by far. How to Save a Life by The Fray is a beautiful song in my opinion and so is the Script songs I know of. I just recently heard The A Team by Ed Sheeran (like earlier this week) and I was blown away by it. I haven't heard that other Ed Sheeran song you posted, but I'll have to check it out sometime; actually I'll have to go back and listen to every song posted on this topic when I have a chance too. While looking through my iTunes earlier, I found this song and I think it's pretty sad:
Susie
And I thought I was the only Vangelis fan around here, and yeah that VNV Nation is quite the sad one though I personally think that ATB has done stuff that's more emotional But hey that's just me ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While looking through my iTunes earlier, I found this song and I think it's pretty sad:
Meh, I didn't find it that sad, Dance With The Devil and Give Me A Sign made me more teary than that one
AGATHODAIMON BANGTAIL COW
Sullivan ~ Caroline's Spine. Especially the acoustic version. A few Placebo songs. A few Staind songs. A lot might be a more accurate word here. Wasteland ~ 10 Years. Maybe. Ok, not really, but someone might find it that way. Disarm ~ The Smashing Pumpkins. Although I've listened to it a thousand times (give or take) and I don't really feel that way. Fallen ~ Volbeat. Another maybe. Pages ~ 3 Doors Down. I might add something if I remember that it exists. Keeping track of everything I listen to isn't easy at all.
Susie
I can completely agree with Disarm, and I heard the live version of Outside by Staind, it was so beautiful
CinnamonStar
ATB - Humanity I like, although can't really feel the sadness. Granted, it goes up when the vocals start, but that's it. Otherwise nice, probably a song that needs to go into my slightly melancholic electronic songs collection. OH here are 2 I forgot! They're both remarkable IMO for being touching as hell mixes of hope and sadness. At least that's the effect I get. Susie
Yeah, I guess it's not really sad, but still compared to most stuff released today it has quite the melody Maybe some of Deadmau5's tracks would be a better go for this
gimmepie
How can we talk about 3 Days Grace and forget Gone Forever. The whole song is about his delusions. I used to love Johnny Cash but his stuff never struck me as that sad... Folsom Prison Blues maybe? Wasteland - Shinedown is another great sad song What About Me - Shannon Noll (I doubt many people know it so I'll post a video) Like Suicide & Breakdown - both by Seether Dragonfly and Broken Dreams by Shaman's Harvest could probably be considered as sad songs Love Somebody and Sexed Up by Robbie Williams Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers (An Essential of sad songs) Losing My Religion - R.E.M. Just To Get High and How You Remind Me - Nickelback Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil The Show Goes On - Lupe Fiasco (Not really sad but I feel it deserves mention) If I Was Your Vampire - Marylin Manson (More chilling then sad) Just a few more from me, you're all sharing some great songs
Susie
That what about me song was really nice, I might look up more by this Shannon Noll person. And yeah Cash's cover of Hurt wasn't really sad, I guess it just has a sort of more darker tone to it. I didn't find Gone Forever that sad at all. But Wicked Game, and Last to Know were sad songs as well by them. I would mention Get Out Alive but it's a little bit too dark rather than sad
You should, he is a great singer. Come to think of it he has a lot of songs that could be considered quite sad really (Lonely for example). I'm going to have to look up this song by Cash it sounds like it would be really good.
Rapidfire
Some sad songs that I like. And yes we are bringing Taylor Swift into this! :3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1Xr-JFLxik http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFg_8u87zT0 Last but not least the fray. <
CinnamonStar
Oh the Fray has good melancholic songs. Well, it's once of those nights again. I'm loving them somehow. So I'm bringing some stuff in the sad department. Please don't be turned off because the composer is Japanese, there are no lyrics besides Lullaby which is all English. Lullaby
Susie
I seriously don't like Taylor Swift but White Horse was an alright song. I can't give any emotions to it because of the fact that it's Taylor Swift doing it. I don't know why, probably because I can't take her too seriously due to the fact of how almost anything she sings is about a boy or falling in love. How to Save a life, I had found more sad than You Found Me
