A Possibly Very Risky Subject - Jimmy Saville

Jimmy Saville for those who don't know who he is, was a very famous British television presenter/disc jockey/charity fundraiser who died last year at the age of 84. However recently, multiple allegations have come up, regarding him allegedly saying that he was a pedophile. And even now, the police have launched an investigation into the matter as more victims come forward to testify. More info can be found at this link for more info http://chris-ukorg.org/cover-ups/jimmy-saville-witch-hunt-or-paedophile/ or just search it in on Google.

So I ask you, what do you think of these allegations? Do you think they are true? Has your opinion changed of him since these reports?

If Mods want to lock this, I understand. It's a very serious subject and if they feel it is not appropriate, then please lock this topic.

Eeeeh. I've trying to avoid the news of this. It's kinda controversial. It's undeniable that what he did for charity etc. was very impressive. I just find the whole thing weird. I do believe it was true just because this many allegations is no coincidence. My opinions have changed, but I'm just more shocked than anything.

To be honest, I haven't really had a serious conversation with anyone about it. Most of my friends see it as something to joke about, and it makes it a little more light-hearted, even if it is a rather serious and touchey subject. Meh *shrugs*, to be honest, I hadn't even heard of him until he died.

Oh geez this subject.

It's only been dominating Sky News for like... I dunno, 2 months? Feels like an eternity anyway.

Even as one of the older British statemsen on this site, I've haven't seen much of Jimmy Saville as a presenter or charity worker but was aware of him and who he was. When he died last year it was a huge deal with a very public funeral and hundreds of mourners travelling the country to pay respect to him. I remember hearing the news then and my reaction was 'oh Jimmy Saville died. Wow...' Wasn't devastated obviously, but it seemed significant and respectable and what not.

A year later I think he's an evil bastard, and everytime I see a photo of him the thought crosses my mind 'he does look like a peadophile...'

Well he does now I've been told that. Because he didn't look like one just on appearance a year ago. Weird how the mind works and such and that makes me question my own personal judgement on things to change my mind like that.

Thankfully I haven't gone the whole hog and said "oh I always he was a bad 'un!" What bothers me is how no-one around him knew, or more disturbingly the extent those who did went to to cover up for him, and how many others are shortly going to be charged. This story won't go away, only snowball.

Savile*

On a serious note this is a nasty topic which just goes to show that perverts can all too easily use facades like charitable works to achieve their own ends and Savile took advantage of his position to perform sick things and that you can never condone this and all the work he has done for charity is pretty worthless. This and the Lance Armstrong case just goes to show that even people who look good from the outside can be bad people.

A relative of mine worked at Stoke Mandeville and said he was always considered a "dirty old man" by everyone, you know, calling them "luvleh layday" and all of his usual weird stuff. But all they really did was just laugh at him when he left the room and acknowledge that he was a creepy old guy who was a bit of a perv. That was all - going to the police wasn't really the done thing, what with such an issue being publicly ignored for its unpleasant nature. I always found him unpleasant (sleazy being the right word) but I didn't expect these kind of revelations to come out. But the cover-up is something else - I think that everyone who tried to cover up this story at the BBC should be fired and charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
