Randomflyingobjects
I'm currently writing a fanfic, and I had a general idea for a Tournament. So this somewhat follows a pattern from the anime. It has people from around gathering in one place, and isn't exactly a bracket system, if you see what I mean. I'm talking about how, aside from the duel, there is something OUTSIDE the duel that gets you into the finals, like Star Chips, GX Medallions, and Heart Pieces. In this case, it's Life Points. The players start with an damage capacity, like 20000. After they lose 4000 Life Points, or forfeit, the duel ends, and it lowers their overall score. Example: Jon: 16000 LP -4000 Duel Ends Jon's total: 12000 Or they can forfeit DURING THEIR OWN TURN. (Not the other guy's move when he's about to get an OTK) That way, it turns into an elimination Tournament, with a slightly different idea than other ones. Sort of a game of Survival. Plus, because it's Damage Capacity, when a player gains 500 points or something, it doesn't give them any extra points, so healing cards aren't top priority. And, when you when, you get to pick 1 of your opponent's cards to keep for yourself. Thank you, Umbra, for suggesting the Damage Capacity to avoid Life Point abuse. So, any thoughts on this idea? Aerion Brightflame
The one problem I have with this style of tournament, is that this one could be cheated very, very easily. I mean, whilst its a fresh idea, the logistics of it become slightly to hard. Life point gain becomes worth more than anything else. The reason why Star Chips and the like worked IMO is becuase they were tangable. is becuase they were tangable. You had them, or you didn't. With this, it brings up to many questions. That, and it would leave really awkward amounts. So I personally think something tangable like star chips and such work much better, becuase they can't be manipulated as much. Umbra
What you could do, if you want to keep the life point mechanic (because, as Barth says, it could very easily be abused in its current state) is to introduce a "damage capacity" rather than a life-point total. Then, a player would only be able to take 20000 damage over the course of a tournament before they're knocked out, regardless of how many Life Points they actually have. Of course, this makes burn decks very powerful, but when you have 4000 LP to start with, that's going to happen anyway.
Randomflyingobjects
Both points taken. The general reason I did it like this is because on the show, there are always those duelists that don't make it through the first duel, mainly because they have to fight the main character first, and they only have one star/heart piece/GX medallion. Then, they flop out of the tournament. This way, it gives people a couple more rounds. Umbra, that idea is brilliant and just might work. Or, there could be a limit, saying you can't gain LP over 4000, so it isn't abusable, but then some decks would really start to rot. Yeah, I think I'm going to stick to Damage Capacity. ?someone?
That's pretty creative, and with those changes it could be pretty boss. Heck, that would be sweet in real life.
