New Stuff?

Recommended Posts

If you've noticed at all recently, the staff team was able to finally get access to the admin panel to fix some problems that have been plaguing YCM for a very long time now. Therefore, since there's actually a better chance for us to reorganize things and implement new features, I'd like you the members to make suggestions involving the Creative Writing and RP sections. Just remember - if I shot it down in the past, it's unlikely I'll agree to it now. Okay. Shoot.

Things that are most likely gonna happen:
- Roleplays being moved out from being a subforum of Creative Writing.

Things I think could work:
- A "Story Planning" subforum, much like we have for RPs. People would be able to post threads devoted to specifically generating ideas instead of being restricted to the one thread we have now.

Story Planning sounds so good. Stops clutter in the actual fiction thread, and much more free rein regarding ideas and authorial ideas. I'm one to think that it would also be quite a good place to generally talk about how to write (discussions on character development, setting, word usage etc.), unless that's worth a new section.

That would work fine. I'd just want to have a section that isn't about discussing specific stories and more getting general help, if that makes any sense.

I think we need a single, all new sub-section in Creative Writing for both RP planning and fiction wiriting. That way, we could just scroll through the sub section to find interesting subjects instead of having to find our way through some cluttered thread where everyone's posting different things.

Not sure what you mean by this.

If I'm reading it write:

Creating Writing = Where the stories, and only the stories go. (Similar to how RP is just the RP, and only the RP)
"Story Planning/Discussion" = Link to the Main Story on the front page. Discussion of whatever. "Oh man guys, I have the best idea for a story!" "Yeah bro! Totally go write that!" "Yeah man, that was sick in chapter 3 when she died! Totally came out of left field"

Yeah, I think that could work. I prefer to read a story all in one go as opposed to like... reading it and then having to wade through 2 or 3 pages before finding the next chapter. Makes the Creative Writing section better IMO.

How I envisioned it:
Creative Writing = Where threads containing stories go, within which there are posts with chapters and discussions specific to those chapters (mainly reactions and the like).
Story Planning = Where general idea development/discussion (ex. the use of female protagonists), beta reading, and problem solving (ex. "Hey guys, I have a duel I want to write but I can't figure out a specific twist.") go.

I want a Story Planning thing for RP thangs too. :I

I don't think this is necessary. For one, we barely get posts at all in the RP Planning thread, but it's more than enough to keep track of everything. An RP is cool and all, but it doesn't carry the same weight as a fanfic, and upon being done, everything will just switch (planning included) into the OOC thread. There's no need for something like that, it'll just be a waste of space. Just what I think.

Based on a whim: noticed the Character Creation Guide -> Am suggesting OoC Creation Guide. You know, give 'em pointers 'n' such about good OoC Maintenance 'n' such...

...Oh, also an updated Character Creation Guide wouldn't go amiss, though it ain't that necessary...

Just food for thought.

This section does not count posts. Therefore, even if you spammed by continually posting RP ideas in the arr-pee planning thread, it would have no 'physical' plus, only the benefit of increasingly building up the RP structure itself. That's my guess anyway, I'm not Rinne.

But I seriously don't think we should have a subforum for the OOC section. At the very least, it would be easier to retool the OOC section into something that also allows 'planning RP threads' which can later themselves build up into the real thing. It's just...unnecessary.

Oh. That's possible, although I think that if I loosened up on the rules restrictions for creating new threads and revised the forum description it could work too.
By OoC Creation thread I didn't mean a thread for planning RPs.

I meant making a thread which would portray good OoC Structure and tidiness (because organization doesn't ever hurt anyone; rather it makes things more clear for people to read 'n' understand. Oh, and also that a messy OoC Thread can drive away potential players), and pointers of how to keep OoC Thread order (like reducing off-topic posting) and the likes. Sorry if I didn't quiet elaborate enough.

Point taken - "ignored" was probably not the best word. However, there is no structure for OOC threads that is considered objectively "superior," and keeping members in line requires the GM merely to actually read everyone's in-character posts. It is also not as essential to have a certain ordering of text in your thread than it is to have a well-written character, and the latter is what YCM members seem to struggle with more compared to the former. If anyone besides myself would like to take it unto themselves to make a guide if they feel it's so indispensable, and also feel they're enough an authority on the subject, then by all means do so. (I am, however, working on a combined plot/setting guide that got waylaid a few months ago, so expect that up sometime. Hopefully.)

EDIT: Also, I kept forgetting to check this thread. x:
