Shut Down Everything

I spent an entire week at my house in darkness. Catching up on my reading and DS wasn't so bad, but I couldn't go see any of my friends because we had to save gas for emergencies. I passed like 3 different lines for gas on the way back to college and each of them spanned a couple miles long.

New Jersey got decked by Sandy. I heard the ferris wheel and a roller coaster on the boardwalk got washed away into the ocean.

What's more, my friend's grandmother walked back to her home near the shore and found it with 3+ inches of water or something. She might have to abandon it and she's lived there since 1945, so I really hope it can be restored.

Ironically, my college only lost power for a couple hours and managed to sustain itself for the entire week. I couldn't go back there though because all the trains were down.

And this was only, what, a Category 1 or 2? I thought I heard something about it degrading to a Superstorm.
I shudder to think what my friends and family would be doing if this were something more dangerous.

I know I'll never take power for granted again.

It was a Cat 1, but I thought I heard that it mixed with other storm fronts making it cause more damage. IDK. Just know a north eastern is heading this way, so yay, fun times.
