CMRenji
[s]Okay guys, time to give up and start guessing from Bulbasaur to Genesect.[/s] I'm thinking Gold version obviously, and also weak to Water. The only Pokemon that I can think of is Tyranitar(Dark type, beats Psychic, weak to Water, beats Fire) It's probably not "basic" but this is all I gots. TheComposer
A riddle is bad when someone can think of an answer to the riddle that isn't the answer, and still have a valid reason linking it to the riddle. (Hondoom)

The Warden
Whatever. The answer was Poochyena, for the reasons I will now elucidate. Howl at the moon - What howls? Dogs and wolves. Moon = night = dark, howl = dog/wolf. Dark + dog/wolf = Dark type dog/wolf (which there are 4: Houndour, Houndoom, Poochyena & Mightyena). Poochyena is also the first pokemon you meet in the 3[sup]rd[/sup] generation that had Howl, which was also made in that same generation. Laugh in the sun - Poochyena = hyena, hyenas laugh (allegedly). Stops smart guy from having any fun - In R/S, you first meet Prof. Birch being chased by a Poochyena. Poochyena is also dark, meaning it's effective on psychics. I'm as good as Gold - Gold was capitialized to trick you, to lure you away from the fact that Poochyena's shiny form is gold. But I'm not that old - Both being a basic and being conceived in the third generation. I'm there from the start - You meet Poochyena on route 101... But at sea we depart - and from there Poochyena is on practically every route in Emerald's Hoenn, until route 122, which connects to Lilycove. From there it's nothing but sea until Victory Road. Frankly, I was worried that someone was going to guess Poochyena after Wynn said Mightyena, but I guess you guys dove too deeply into the riddle.
