Taking the fate of YCM into our own hands

What sorts of events do people want to see (besides TCG tournaments)?

Thing is, there were some in the past (aka during the last few months), but few people joined.
And if there were suggestions, people would usually go "wynaut" or "oh IDK, just anything".
Dunno, maybe we haven't hit the nail on top yet.

And whose turn is it to do the YCMA? I don't remember who wanted to do them.@_@

Icy was an intolerable narcissist who did nothing but try to make himself as Gods gift to the forum. He ran the debate section like a dictator and gave it the most stupid rules I have ever laid my eyes on. He constantly locked topics and enforced rules exclaiming that he had the power to do so and that his word goes. To tell you the truth, I am glad that he is gone. I am tired of his little "I HATE SWEARING!" rants and his moral high horse as if he knows whats right or wrong and that HE should be the one to correct YCM because it just ain't like him.

I think that if the Duel Portal program was made a whole lot more user-friendly and better controlled (card moderation), then that could become a major attraction in itself. As it is, it's inactive, a bit awkward to use at first, and from what I gather the default card-pool is totally imbalanced.

She was the last remaining power that struck fear into people and then respcted it....

A forum is only long as lasting as there power happy mods/admins are, once gone, bye bye forum.

not gonna go through this and attempt to decode whatever you were trying to say

i like Icy as a person for the most part, thought he was a pretty cool guy, but the way he enforced the rules around here and the complex that he carried, specifically things like "moderators can't moderate without proving themselves first", was extremely frustrating

telling mikhail that he couldn't enforce any rules in RC when he was promoted to the mod of that section was just one of those things that really frustrated me about his methods, so to speak

like i said, the only way to really get things going again on ycm is for the members to actually care. outside of the 20 of us, it doesn't appear that many others do

you can promote all you want and host all the events you want but if people aren't willing to actually get involved its all just for show

Duel Portal is not massively easy for some people. Something like that which was easy, and enjoyable, would be a good step forwards.

...there are lots of dumbasses on DP. Dumbasses who don't know how to work a simple program. Dumbasses who don't know proper card grammar and OCG. Dumbasses who only check the Duel room every three days because he's the only one person ever on. Dumbasses like that.

Oh, entirely, which is why I emphasize user-friendliness to make them able to understand the 'simple program', card moderation for default set so that average users don't have to worry about people's poor card grammar and OCG, and hopefully a good format which is easy to access would have more people on. Anyone who could make it browser-based would also be making a great step forwards to making it more attractive.

DP is a big pile of potential, IMO. It's just not in the state it needs to be to get YCM moving at a decent rate.

Firstly, there was no team, I was the only artist in charge of said awards.

I think you completely ignored the fact that the host did an absolute terrible job. I had and still have the awards ready to go, however J-Max did such an atrocious job, I saw no point in being part of the mess, however every single year whoever is in charge of design aspect is always blamed apparently.

Also, a committee was assembled back in August for the next YCMA's composing of Lunar, Agro, Desu, Opal, and myself, however I think that was short-lived and perhaps decided we would wait a bit.

Precisely how active do we want a website dedicated to making YGO cards to be? Considering that it's a surprisingly narrow interest, you can't expect massive periods of activity.

Besides, we've fallen into a naturally slow period. Boom and bust.

Regarding graphic awards, apart from the fact that it's an insane workload for the GFX team to do (considering that every year, you have about 30 awards dedicated to "Most trolly member" and stuff like that that no-one wants to do). Then there's the ordeal of making everyone credits. Also, really doesn't help when the entire brief is, "Make an award for us." In professional terms, that is an awful design brief.

Anyway, as for the whole YCM thing, I do have to admit that it's dying - it's becoming obvious even in the Roleplaying Section where I tend to continually seclude myself - but I doubt advertising would help. The last this forum needs is more and more crude members. I explicitly discourage anyone from advertising on 4Chan. They did make the legendary Katawa Shoujo game, but that's the exception to their insensitivity.

I don't really claim to know about the history of this site the time I joined (2008), but I know for sure that the members at least were more or less the same, in both the card sections and the roleplaying sections, and people should stop sweetening the past. There were as many noobs then as there are now. At least, to my knowledge. I know absolutely nothing about the Graphics section, though I do know about the history of all the Digimon clubs and the roleplaying section where Umbra strolled in and changed everything. I also know that I used to make cards that would usually reach two pages, but now when I make far more superior cards, they barely get past seven posts.

How to make the site more active? Well, one solution would be to, I dunno, actually add Xyzes to the cardmaker? Well, then again, it's the active members that are leaving, so...I would agree with a competition. Competitions are fun fun fun, after all. Probably. Maybe.

If only there was something like DN where we could add our own custom cards into the deck and then play with other members, seeing which cards are the most balanced and great of all. But maybe that's just me and such a thing actually doesn't work. I'm fourteen, veteran or not. I don't really know much about this kind of stuff.

I know that it is hard to revive a dying site, but catering to the members of the forum is probably the best way to boost activity. Start something that the members would like to be a part of, not something that someone will think they want to be a part of.
