Directed by: Roland Emmerich
Year Released: 2011

One of the best films of 2011. It is also the most controversial and it bases the claim that Shakespeare did not write the classic plays we all know and love.

Whether the theory is true or not, the film claims that Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, was the original writer of Shakespeare's plays. In the film the original Shakespeare is presented as a bumbling, illiterate fool, who gets drunk a lot and hangs out with many prostitutes. Although this is a controversial portrayal and a controversial theory, Roland Emmerich has directed one of the finest films of 2011. Not only does it entice suspense and thrills but it also creates one of the most accurate portrayals of London during that age in years. It is beyond one of Emmerich's best films and regardless of its views, is one of the best films of the new decade (2011-2020).
