Darth Revan of the Sith
Directed by: D.W. Griffith Year Released: 1915 The Birth of a Nation is an icon in the Film industry, but a plague among the Civil Rights community. Despite the racial and outright incorrect interpretations of history made by Griffith, this movie was well directed and well made for a silent film. The Birth of a Nation depicts the KKK as heroes during the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era and depicts black people (Played by white men painted brown) as disgusting rapist's with nothing better to do than become degenerates of American Society. However disgusting this films ideologies may be, it was a revolutionary piece in film and a milestone in the industry itself. It has excellent pace and direction and its acting is flawless when brought to comparison with its screenplay. And (As much as I hate to admit it) the white guys who played Black people unfortunately did their acting well when compared to the original direction of the film. No matter how disgusting, inaccurate, or racist this movie may be, it is unfortunately one of the best films in the movie industry for the past 100 years. NOTE: The views expressed in this topic are not ideologically based but based on the thoughts of a film critic and is based on the film's directing, pace, and acting and not on it's views. Flame Dragon
In terms of film history it is amazing and one of the most ground breaking movies ever made. In terms of content it is horrid and should be forgotten. Over all, the historical value of the film for the film industry out weighs the message inside so it will come up in film class after film class for a long time. Tentacruel
As good as it may be, I'm not sure I could get past the propaganda.
Darth Revan of the Sith
As good as it may be, I'm not sure I could get past the propaganda.
As a film critic you have to take things as they are made and not by how much it offends you. To get past the opinions of a movie allows a critic to unbiasedly judge a movie. However that's just how I was able to say what I said. D. W. Griffith received a lot of sh*t for the movie and the outcry was so great he made another movie called Intolerance, which pretty much says the exact opposite of the other movie. Intolerance was another revolutionary movie made by Griffith, I just wanted to make a topic on the controversial one. I also made topics on other controversial movies like Passion of the Christ and Anonymous.
