Makο
Recently finished Wa! http://www.mangareader.net/1214/wa.html A cute little manga about a group of high schoolers who get intangled in one big love circle. That's probably just me, though.

Nicο
Vividred Operation Would probably be a good idea to let people know this was a fairly typical magical girl show without technically being magical girl. And it was aimed at Japanese otaku. So yes, I enjoyed it. 3.5/5 Haganai NEXT I was getting kinda annoyed at Kodaka, but it all worked out in the end, no? I'm surprisingly actually hoping for a season 3 here, but that's mostly just because of the way things ended. 3/

Just Crouton
I can't believe I didn't include in a previous post. A 1988 Triad. Coincidence. Starship Troopers (1988) Okay, I actually finished it in 2009, and found it on GoGoAnime just now, and it all came back... Unlike the 1998 movie, they use the powered armor from the book. The art style is unique, which I like, as it helps give it an identity separate from other anime at the time. The powered armor looks cool. The story's okay. The action is a little weird at points. The music is really good. Like, a cheesy kind of really good. All the music is sung in English, and helped to keep me watching. Seriously, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDkYQc0QknM It's watchable. Lily Cat (1988) I first watched this around 1995 on Easter when SyFy channel aired it (in the 90's SyFy ran violent anime movies on Saturday mornings, and sometimes at night like this and Akira.) I recently watched it again. It's an Alien ripoff, and an enjoyable one at that. Your standard horror movie. Everybody dies, save for the girl. Cliched, devoid of scariness, but still fun to watch. The music and character designs are great. Salamander (1988) It's a trilogy of OVAs based on Gradius, Life Force (aka Salamander), and Gradius 2. If you're familiar with the games, just take the game's story, and add 3 main characters, and drama and stuff. For an anime based on a video game (this was made years before Street Fighter: The Animated Movie), the visuals are beautiful. The characters look awesome, and the Bactrians look menacing. One big thing to point out is that a lot of background is remixed from the games. The end credits song is amazing. Though, for some reason, all the characters like to act like Char Aznable (or like Starfleet officers?) and pilot their spaceships without pilot suits. Weird. Watch it. Nicο
Phi-brain: Puzzle of God Pu-Zzle-Oh!: Taking the same obsession with children's card games Yu-Gi-Oh! has, and applying it to Puzzles instead sure makes for one crazy ride. It was really fun for me. Kaito and the rest usually have to play a puzzle for the sake of their lives, or other important reasons that likewise should not be solved by solving a puzzle. Most every one of the main characters seem to love puzzles now, and Kaito never backs down from one. The characters are all good, and forget the POG and Rook, season two introduced the most original names in a while. There have been times where I've changed my rating (decrease) to accommodate how I think the majority of anime fans would like things, and honestly, it would probably be the same for this, but I think I'm just gonna stop trying, for now, at least. One of my favs, and Now or Never is no Doubt my favorite OP now, too. Can't wait for season three.
Fusion X. Denver
Eureka Seven This is one of those animes I've been aware of for years, but I've finally gotten around to watching it. Does it live up to the hype? Yes. E7 had a pretty good story for the most part. I think things got a little too confusing in the last season, but when I looked up the details later, everything made sense. Just make sure you pay attention during dialogues and you should be fine. Cast was solid. Only a few had more layers to them, but I ended up liking everyone anyways; the Gekko State made for a good group. Renton also seems like a better version of Shinji Ikari. He can really get crippled by self-doubt and whines a lot, but at least he'll step up to the plate when the time comes. And he and Eureka make a good pair as the leads.
best romances I've seen in a long while. It's touching, they're cute together, and it feels genuine.
The soundtrack was actually pretty decent and did its job at accentuating E7's moments, but I can't say much more than that. E7 did have some downsides though. Mainly the crying. There's someone crying, like, all the time. I tend to hate crying in general, though I always appreciate it in a show when the drama calls for it, but seeing it end on end here bugged the crap out of me. I also couldn't tell if I liked Renton or not until the end where I decided I did. Guess that falls in with the Shinji comparison. The kids also bugged me, I'm sorry. The grating voices, their crying, their behavior, it was just annoying for the most part. But whatever, kids will be kids. There were also some cheesy moments and lines, but I don't necessarily credit that as a bad thing. But it was still noticed. Overall, the series will definitely hook you in. I marathoned this in 2-3 days and the time was very worth well spent. It's a staple for a reason. 8.5/10 Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers This was an interesting AU experience, to say the least. I was hoping for something following up on the ending of the series though. But still an interesting take nonetheless. 4/5 On to Eureka Seven AO! Nicο
Saki: Achiga-hen - Episode of Side-A I still don't exactly know all the rules and everything to mahjong, but it still doesn't really give me a reason to need to. Most characters having abilities that take certain aspects to the extreme, or somethings that seem even more impossible in real life, like a team where if one person wins at a certain point of the game, her partner gets pretty much double the win at that point of their game. All that just makes it seem like it wasn't made to specifically target mahjong fans, it's just fun stuff for me. You could say exactly what the majority of people I've seen said: The main characters' team are so much worse as characters than Senriyama, but Shizuno is still my favorite character from this side story. Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity- (manga) So much more pointless than the anime... but I suppose if you don't hate short ecchi harem whatevers, it could be a decent compliment to the anime/visual novel. Fusion X. Denver
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou Wow, it's been a while since an entire cast of characters has charmed me like that! It was done with a good balance of comedy and melodrama; I laughed or chuckled when I was supposed to and felt emotional whenever there was trouble plaguing the crew. And I feel it was all handled very realistically, for the most part. The characters felt like real people and had relatable, human feelings that most animes tend to gloss over for the sake of easier writing or trying to make their characters more likable. It's very easy to empathize with these characters and their situations because the writers are honest with conveying everyones' emotions, and it makes for an awesome show. Its soundtrack was very fitting and used effectively, plus the openings and endings are pretty catchy, especially the first ending. My only real issue with the show was that it relied on tired cliches at times: perverted misunderstandings (though there was one really funny one with Mashiro and Yuuko iirc), people accidentally falling on each other, some gratuitous fanservice, etc. Regardless, very solid show and one of the better romcoms I've seen in a while. It's worth the watch. 4.5/
Nicο
Steins;Gate IT DOESN'T REALLY MEAN ANYTHING. Yeah, I would marathon this if I had the time, but the same could be said for Clannad, Nanoha, Railgun, and whatever else made it into my favorites. Seems like it took me 11 days. Now, I suppose Christina is okay, but she was the one tsundere where I'm gonna go out and extend what I've said before and say that I was pretty much indifferent to her for at least 8 episodes, but she was okay (redundancy). I didn't especially care for any of the memes she used so that didn't really have any effect on me. The rest of the characters were absolutely great. The thing I appreciated the most was that after watching, I couldn't see Kyouma (yeah, I'd call him that) with any of the other girls. To make the choice that was chosen (even if it was clearly the main female) for the anime be one that really works is a wonderful thing. I do want some Dr Pepper now though. That said, it was so fabulous I'll just wait a bit to see if I really feel it could be one of my favorites.
TatteredSleeves
Watamote! It's a cringe comedy that does its job extremely well. We were all that really awkward boy/girl at one point just trying to make friends or be popular. This manga (getting an anime adaptation this summer) hits right at home in that respect which can make it very difficult to read without cringing every couple of pages, but at the same time it has a way of keeping you going. At the end of every chapter I just felt like I wanted to reach out and hug the protagonist who has just been turned into the universe's chewtoy. The manga is still ongoing and you can be i'll be continuing The Cons. I'm not sure if this is entirely a bad thing or if it's just realism on the artist's part but the main character is simply not appealing to look at in the slightest. She isn't cute/moe/sexy none of that. This is a first for me as every other anime/manga I've seen with a female protagonist made that protagonist attractive as all hell, if not at least cute to look at. Watamote does the opposite, driving the point home that she is not easy on the eyes, switching from a dull, uninterested stare to a Yandere/Rapist grin....it's unsettling. Other than that I've got no complaints though 4/

That's what I found nice about Akane from Psycho-Pass; she didn't really stand out, but she wasn't unappealing either and her character managed to win you over without relying on her looks/fanservice or anything like that. So I feel like I might actually find this refreshing if I ever pick it up.
Nicο
Genshiken OVA This is funnier than I remember the first season being. It's kind of weird to see so many otaku in one anime, compared to usual, but at the same time, this is pretty hilarious and for lack of a bigger thought due to it only being 3 episodes, interesting. I realize that while I really don't agree with some of the things otaku are like, I do probably share some traights so maybe that's why it seems so interesting. The new character certainly will make an impression... and I think I may be liking her the most now... she's in denial man, and her cosplay really fit her. I've got the next 3 days free of any airing anime, so bring on season 2, I know I'll enjoy it. Maybe because this was just an OVA, but I think I forgot I didn't actually say anything about the first season at all on YCM. I love how real the whole thing feels, and the best way of showing this is that it almost never really shows otaku to be a positive or negative subculture, even though it seems it's actually pretty negative in Japan.Futari wa Precure: Splash☆Star I'd say this is hands down a vast improvement over the first Precure, especially the sequel, but I still preferred the first one. It keeps up the action and you can really feel the emotion in FILLER episodes. You might say there are technically no fillers because they always get at least 1 of those marble things and then around the 40th episode the baddies got revived, spending the majority of the rest of the episodes basically killing them again, but I'd just say that was their way of pretending there isn't any filler. I even felt more for the filler than the actually thing, what is wrong with me? But I did shed a few tears on the last episode. Obviously because I'm really sensitive over that sort of thing, but I can really see some of the younger fans probably crying their face off. Northern Sage
Assassination Classroom: This is a story of antitheses, and the author is extremely good at them. The main "villain" is affably evil taken to its logical extreme, the story is surprisingly lighthearted despite themes such as discrimination, the greater good, and of course the end of the world. The cast, while huge, remain a pleasant surprise in how unique each of them are without anyone becoming unlikable. It's almost as if Kenjiro Hata wrote Battle Royale. The comparatively fast pace actually does wonders for the story. 4.8/
Nicο
Nichijou I've gotta say... I understand why this is apparently a slice of life, wacky things happen in those things all the time... but this is the one thing that takes that kind of nonsense comedy and pushes it to the illogical extreme. Having finished it in just 5 days, it's probably one of the very few anime I could watch in such a short amount of time, at least so far in my life, and I did watch it each and every 1 of those 5 days. An absolutely crazy experience, and it's been a blast, really. Nice that the art style is just so different than pretty much every other Kyoani show too. Not to mention, in things like this, you'd expect there to be not so many characters, but then again, even for a 2 cour, a slice of life that has 26 episodes... they knew what they were doing with those loads and loads of characters, that's for sure. Not all of them were able to be used that much, and of course there are more important (more used) characters than the rest, but I guess that's to be expected. I will say that all of the characters are relatively possible... but like I said, pushed to the illogical extreme. Like a tsundere who gets redder than anyone I've ever seen blush/be sick/eat something really spicy ever. She also uses guns on people. Especially to whom she's tsundere towards. And just like any tsundere, the one who gets shot is pretty much okay the next scene they get. This is actually split into a massive number of parts, so if you can't take all the crazy at once, you really could watch it as if you're watching one of those short anime. I guess YouTube videos for all those parts might be slightly a better choice than the full episode videos if you would wanna do that though. Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne Now of course, I tend to read manga/watch anime for some pretty stupid reasons, this one being that this is one of my favorite characters favorite manga, from what I hear. That said, I now completely see why he feels that way. It seems as shoujo as shoujo can get, especially at first, and I suppose it is true, in the sense that it mostly is as cliche as you can imagine one of those really old magical girl things, that actually is a shoujo can be. Still, the comedy pulled through when it was used, it overall gave a very good impression with the ending, especially since I feel those extra bits at the end where it skips ahead 7 (or so) years was one of the better ones I've seen. All that said, and I can also say I'm glad I read the manga, considering it would have probably been one or the other. It's not like I can't take the obvious about 50 episodes magical girl anime kind of thing, but sometimes it's better off to not have to be put through quite an amount of filler (not that I don't like filler, I actually do most of the time, I just didn't think I would end up liking this so much. Although, perhaps there is a charm in telling a shorter story when it's easily better off that way, and I prefer shorter stories anyway), and well yeah, probably one of the better manga I've ever read, if only because I don't like to put myself through such a large amount of chapters, despite the rest of my favorites being much longer. It just takes forever for me, since manga isn't really my preferred method of entertainment.
King of Games
Shakugan no Shana (season 1) Was watching this mostly to kill time, and in that respect it worked. Largely an action series with all the eye-rolling romance cliches. I liked it. The Guy is likable and good natured. Shana herself starts off abrasive, but becomes more endearing over the course of the series. I especially liked the origin/flashback episodes. It all looks good, some repeated footage here, some details lost when the characters are in the distance there. The fanservice was a bit much for my tastes, Shana being small in "stature" as she is, but it stayed in it's place, not during the awesome action or serious moments. I did like how the romance was developing and how far it got, just annoyed by The Guy's inaction on that front. Oh well, cant have a season 2 if the romance plot ends can we? I liked it. but now it has me wanting to rewatch a really good romance, ToraDora!
Fusion X. Denver
No spoilers inside, just reducing the post length.
Ugh.This show looked cool after the first episode, but it fell prey to its short timespan. Too many characters and none of them were properly developed. Whenever someone died, there was nothing to be felt. Hell, I couldn't even remember some of the characters. There was one point where everyone was sad over this group of people getting killed, I was just sitting there trying to remember who the hell they were. All were very one-dimensional and pretty cookie-cutter.And why the hell was everything so dark all the time?I had to turn up to max brightness on my Mac just so I could see anything. I'm guessing this was their way to circumventing a limited budget, but whatever the case, it shows and it's bad.I wouldn't link this to the source material though, since I heard it was a good game and this was just a bad adaption. The fights were alright I suppose, but that's all this show really has going for it. 1.5/5

Seems like reactions to this were mixed, but I really liked it. The cast has good chemistry with each other and it's one of the funnier shows I've seen in a while (though there is that slow middle part). Not to mention the facial reactions are priceless.

The fights were fun too, nicely animated and they provided some of the series' more memorable moments. The downsides for me were how people just ended up befriending Maou without excusing his committing genocide in the other world just because he changed living in this world, and then how the show lost some steam in the middle. But a 2nd season could do wonders, so hope that goes well. This show should be a 3.5/5 but I'm giving it a 4 just because I found myself entertained for pretty much the entire thing. Entertainment's always a plus.

This show's brilliant and my favorite alongside Attack on Titan for this season. Great leading cast, especially Hikki, one of the most entertaining cynics I've ever seen and he has the best inner monologues. And this show circumvents a lot of unrealistic bullshit that slice of life's end up in (aside from the yaoi-obsessed girl and Zaimokuza, but they contribute in their own ways). It's clever in solving conflicts and excels in subtlety and character interaction. This show needs a 2nd season, it more than deserves it. And whatever few flaws there are, they aren't enough to dampen me granting it a 5/5.
Nicο
unrealistic bullshit that slice of life's end up in (aside from the yaoi-obsessed girl and Zaimokuza, but they contribute in their own ways)Meh. After what I've seen (in both anime and the internet, since I've never met much female anime fans), nothing you say is likely to make me think that isn't at least somewhat realistic. Not that I like that cliche, ugh. It's just... I know a website where there are a LOT of Yaoi fangirls... and I coincidentally lost interest in said website... and you'll definitely find people speaking somewhat (at least) like that on the more active anime forums (I don't even want to go there, the curiousity just gets the better of me), because I have, on at least 2 different ones. There are a lot of people in this world... so like I said, I probably won't ever be thinking it's not at least somewhat realistic. Probably because it is. Unless I'm thinking wrong. But the point I make is not a bad one.
