Fusion X. Denver
As the title suggests, the thread should be used to write down your thoughts on various anime that you have finished watching. Any post length detailing your thoughts is fine, within the general site rules. -You can also respond to other people's posts, so long as you respect their opinion. -Use spoiler tags for your spoilers. -Also, you can give little reviews/thoughts for series you've already watched and feel like writing about. I'll start: Arcana Famiglia This show had such a promising premise and cast, but it ultimately failed to deliver. Instead of interesting missions, we get filler escapades that fail to capture the viewer's interest. And then there's Felicita, one of the most uninteresting leads I've ever seen. She has no real personality, it's ridiculous how many guys are fawning over her. Her lack of show brings down the romance aspect because we don't have a reason to care who she ends up with.
it stereotypically ends without her making a choice.
Some characters are cool, but we don't get to see much done with them aside from Liberta and Nova because they're stuck in a very shallow premise that doesn't let them go anywhere. And the thing about the action: sure we shouldn't rip on the show just because we expected action and were severely misled, but even during the small segments where there were action, it was substandard. The show's just shallow. 2/
Nicο
I had finished Arcana Famiglia today too, but rather I don't think that the fact that I heard what it was adapted from before hand (otome game) mislead me at all, as I pretty much thought it would be a shoujo, and enjoyed every episode. I guess I can relate to Felicita instead of thinking she is uninteresting, though just because she is kind of quiet. As for what I actually last completed, Jinrui wa Suita Shimashita (Humanity has Declined). This, although I'm not actually rating them here, I enjoyed a lot more than Arcana, Especially episodes
I think that was that marvelous manga thing they did
and I think the fairies are totally cute. Also, finally watched the last episode of Hyou-ka: You Can't Escape today. If I had to describe this anime in one word, it'd be...clever. The show's very slow-paced, but it still manages to entice the viewer into the conversations they're having and get them to follow along. And I feel the main 4 developed very nicely over the course of the show in a natural, subtle progression and they're all very interesting characters. Even the mysteries and critical thinking skills can come off as interesting, even though they don't hold much significance. I'd say the animation played a part in that and also helped the rest of the show out. Kyoto Animation really outdid themselves with this one. This definitely isn't for everyone; I could see someone getting bored with it really easily. And this definitely isn't something to marathon; Hyou-ka's best enjoyed in the episodic experience it's meant to be shown in. It's probably my favorite episodic anime alongside Cowboy Bebop. Fusion X. Denver
Accel World This anime was like a roller coaster. Lots of ups and downs, though overall, it finishes off as a decent shonen. I felt like the show had a lot of potential that wasn't fully realized and would have been a lot better if handled differently.
Nomi probably would have been better as a 2-3 episode villain instead of evolving into the series' main antagonist. I feel like that whole drama was dragged out and would have done better to set Haru and Taku up against some greater enemy that would require them to learn Incarnation.
However, it still managed to show some good fights, various types of melee and range fighters, and kept you drawn enough to see a pretty good ending. I'm sure there'll be a 2nd season and I'll most certainly watch it. 3.5/5 Great Teacher Onizuka This is a fun anime overall. There's a bunch of cheesy and unrealistic moments throughout the anime, but none of that really matters because you grow to love Onizuka and the rest of the cast throughout him changing characters and rounding them out to relatable people. GTO really does have its own charm to it and there's nothing quite like it, at least from what I've seen. I watched the dub version and I gotta say it had a horrendous voice director. The actors themselves had decent voices (I even thought Onizuka was voiced by Steve Blum at first), but tones, attitudes and all that other stuff were way off-base. I didn't let that detract from the show, but it was still something worth mentioning. I'd recommend this anime to almost anyone. It's got a universal appeal to it and it's one of the better feel-good anime out there. 4.5/5 Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero This show had a bunch of ups and downs too. It was a decent time-killer every Saturday (aside from the bra shopping episode) and I grew to like Akatsuki, though he's a total Gary Stu. The rest of the cast feels like it's lacking since the anime tends to be about showing how awesome Akatsuki is. Different characters have interesting powers and can hold off on their own, but they always lack in comparison to Akatsuki in the limelight because he's so much better than everyone else. A lot of the show's typical. I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone, though its 2nd season (I think it's pretty obvious there'll be one judging by the ending) might be able to change that. Here's hoping. 3/
Dr. Cakey
I can play, too! Accel World The worst thing about Accel World is that it is an adaptation of the first third of a series of...is it a light novel series? I think it is, not sure. You can almost here the last episode saying to itself, "I wonder if we'll get greenlit for a second season?". Anyway, Accel World is quite good. Visually, it's quite appealing, both in the in-game avatars and human characters...except for Haru, the main character. I know he's fat, but he's so deformed it looks like he just finished guest-starring on Lucky Star or something. Minor nitpick, on the whole, I suppose. The plot is pretty generic in the broad strokes, but the details are what keep it interesting, and there are lots of instances that get surprisingly emotional. I feel it can be too light-hearted at some times, but luckily it's actually funny for the most part, so it isn't exceptionally offensive. I feel like I ought to be saying more, but I want to keep it short...more 'my thoughts' (you know, like the title) than a review. So...there. I guess. Medaka Box Medaka Box is definitely a thing. I'd say you'll either love it or hate it, but I did neither. I'm pretty much 100% neutral on it. Unlike Accel World, it has already been marked for a second season (not sure if it will be airing in the fall season or later). While told from the perspective of another character, it is about Medaka Kurokami, student council president of Sandbox Academy (more about the name in a moment. EDIT: And by in a moment, I mean NEVER, loser), who is smarter, stronger, faster than everyone else and generally speaking beyond superhuman. This is generally the point of the entire show. 98% of it is her solving problems of varying degrees of solvability and/or converting evil people to righteousness through her "pretentious appeal to innate goodness". ...the other 2% is a psychotic, semi-philosophical battle analyzing what it actually means to be Medaka Kurokami. Also Romi Park voices the villain. And boobies. Did I mention Gainax made this show? Code Geass OVA: Nunally in Wonderland Sunrise spent roughly $10 making this stupid, twenty minute cash-grab wherein Alice in Wonderland is re-enacted with Code Geass characters, as narrated by Lelouch. AND IT IS AMAZING. Come for C.C. as the Cheshire Cat, stay for Emperor Wakamoto zi Britannia. EDIT: Right, of course everyone else is going to talk about Accel World. Nicο
Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero I can say that even though the first two or three episodes hardly interested me at all it become pretty enjoyable, especially the last episode. Hope it sells for a second season, in that regard. It is probably just me though, but I found that beginning of the first episode pretty stupid for the start to a series, and after watching it all, I thought that that should have went after what was only talked about/done in flashbacks. Again, probably just me. Ebiten Since others are doing more than one at once, I finished this before Yuru Yuri but like, right before it, so it wasn't any longer what I just finished, but why not? This is completely a parody of other shows, and since I like that kind of thing, it was hilarious. Especially what I can actually name (Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, K-On!, Dragon Ball Z) that was being parodied, it was a decent series and it's best that it was 10 episodes. Not too shorter, and just... not longer at all.
Just Crouton
Devilman A dark superhero story turned into a story about the fall of humanity because "all humans are evil, yada, yada" done well. The story doesn't dabble on the idea that all humans are evil, instead, it shows the evil through visuals. The story's length could've been a tad longer; It feels like the story jumped from an unrelated arc to the final arc with no real transition. Still, Go Nagai is the God of manga[s] and sleaze[/s]. Amon: The Apocalypse of Devilman This is a 45 minute movie based on a manga that takes place after the 2nd-to-last issue of the original Devilman manga, and takes the story on a different path. The art-style is good, the movie is not. Amon (Devilman's true form) looks silly compared to the manga version, the fights are horrible (the final battle is especially boring,) and the hero is very out of character here. Megaman X4 While Megaman X games were being made throughout the 90's, there was a manga adaption to go with them, with each arc adapting one of the first 4 games. A lot of changes were made, new characters added, and more character story so it isn't just "run to Maverick's base, fight stock robots, fight boss, repeat 7 times, go to Sigma's fortress, etc." The artwork is beautiful, and I bold "beautiful" because it is that beautiful. The environments are heavily-detailed, much like the games. I haven't finished the first 3 arcs because they're hard to find, but I found this one in Japanese. I can't read Japanese, but considering this is a Megaman comic, and I've beaten the game, I don't really need to use my brain to tell what's going on in the pictures. The fights are brutal (Split Mushroom gets the top of his head blown off), especially the Frost Walrus fights, the 2nd round being possibly one of the greatest manga fights ever illustrated. I'm surprised Magma Dragoon wasn't played up as a larger villain, considering his story role in the opening part of both the X4 game and manga. The ending is surprisingly awful. While it follows the game closely, they pretty much wrap up the 2 final levels in one issue, poorly, and it feels really rushed, and feels like panels are missing in-between, making it confusing. Both armors from the game are featured here, the Ultimate Armor used the most, perhaps to give the writers an excuse to speed through the 2nd half of the arc, and the Force Armor appearing at the end to do nothing. X5 wasn't adapted in this series universe, likely because there was 2+ year gap between the games X4 and X5 being released, and judging by how rushed the later part of this story was, they were trying to kill this manga and move on. But, it is better than most Megaman manga. Grey: Digital Target The character designs are awesome, Grey's dub is amazing, the fights are great, and the music is cheesy. Hail to the 80's. Cyber City OEDO 808 I haven't watched the Japanese version, but I can safely say the English dub is the greatest dub is any anime. Sengoku always sounds like an angry jerk, he swears excessively, and everytime he tells someone to "F&^k off," my chest grows a hair. His dialogue is amazing. The artwork is amazing. It's a realistic style instead of the "electrical-socket faces and goofy hair" style. It would've been great if the OVA was longer, but each episode is 40 minutes, so the first episode has plenty of time to get you acquainted with Sengoku. Lt. Colonel Remo
Oh wow, I randomly found Aesthetica of Rogue Hero today and I was considering watching it =/ I guess not though As for Fate/zero, I finished it a while ago, but the only problem it displayed was that it was related to Fate/stay night Because it was prequel to crappy series, it kind of obvious who dies and who makes it on in the next series. It had one of my favorite soundtracks, it's animation is among the best I've ever seen, and in the first half, you aren't even sure who to root for because of how well written each character is. But since it has to end a certain way and since it has plenty of Foregone Conclusions that it's almost painful to watch, provided you know what happens in Fate/stay night. I personally haven't seen stay night, but by comparing the information it divulges, and by the main themes of characters in zero, it easy to see how people can predict things well in advance. I would post the Anime Zone Fate zero review, but it does have a lot obscenities for this site so I'll just warn you in advance if you ever decide to watch it Fate/zero is a must watch for any situation because if you're familiar with Fate/stay night, you can appreciate the Fate series a whole lot more, and if you're new.....well, all I can say is good luck. You find anything as well rounded as this one.
Legend Zero
Gundam AGE If you have heard anything about this series you probably heard the bashing it received. Now, the show did have some moments that made you feel dumb for watching it, but it is not a show that deserves the hate. The initial concept of switching protags as it goes through the ages (pun intended) was fresh to the gundam scene. The way that they drew parallels between the different protagonists and other Gundam pilots from the past was really well done, probably the best I've ever seen in an anime. Another good quality was how they kept the former protagonists relevant in the show even after their time in the spotlight. Although, you can obviously see how rushed the ending was. In short, it was horrible. When the last 2 final battles each only get 1 episode (not even a whole episode) just to get the plot to an end, you know they didn't plan for it. If I had to say only one thing about AGE it would have to be, "Had too many awesome sub-plots that they tried to get through, causing a bad finale and wasted potential." This is generally the point of the entire show.
I'd like to dispute this review. Yes, the initial setup of the storyline is pretty much about Medaka, but it changes pretty swiftly afterwards with [acronym=the Flask Plan and the later introduction of Kumagawa and Anshin'in]
[/acronym]. It turns into a rather interesting meta-deconstruction of a shonen series and its plot points, so if you like awesome fights with more intellectual/creative approaches I suggest you read the manga. (Granted, I didn't watch the anime, so I'm not sure if it goes up to where I think it does.)

Nicο
Oda Nobuna no Yabou Well, some things I heard about this was that Yoshiharu is some male protagonist that actually does something in the old Japan, since he is one of those people who came from the future and he does know his history. But I don't think I watched a historical anime that took place in Japan before (China a few, that I know), I only know that I enjoyed it, and I was almost fooled there near the end. But with that kind of an ending, I really wish for a second season, even more than my two favorites of the season, Sword Art Online and Kokoro Connect (It does however seem like SAO can get one anyway, so that's nice) Seriously? Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? didn't sell too well from what I heard and still got a second season, and both it's seasons ended like that. (new character introduction) I just hope that it doesn't stay that open ended.
Fusion X. Denver
Tari Tari Very nice short and sweet anime. It feels very realistic in terms of character behaviors, life situations and how everyone and everything develops over the course of the show. The main 5 are all lovable characters, though there's an imbalance with development since 2 had lots of focus for a few episodes each and the rest of them seem weaker in comparison. A couple of more episodes to the season, like 17 or so probably would have fixed that, but ah well. The singing was top-notch, which should be expected with a musical anime. Totally downloading all their songs tomorrow. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a pick-me-up, or something short and sweet. A solid 4/5. Legend Zero
Phi Brain: Puzzle of God 2 I recommend this show to everybody! The plot was great, as always, and ever changing. You just couldn't see the ending in this anime. The characters are equally important and the puzzles make you think. The way the show balances serious and light-hearted comedy makes you see how they've kept going to 2 seasons (and an impeding 3rd next year). The show has great OPs & EDS to boot. It was (and will be) something I looked forward to watching every week.
King of Games
Phi Brain: Puzzle of God 2
Hmm? Maybe I should pick it up again. I stopped watching after season 1. The characters were alright (Galileo being a favourite), but the main attraction to me at first was the puzzles. i like trying to figure out the puzzles before the characters do in shows like this, but I noticed was next to impossible here. The solution often times involved cheating the system, using some clue the audience isn't made aware of and wouldn't guess. The puzzles are imaginative and the solutions they come up with are often interesting, but its just a turn-off for me.
Legend Zero
Season 2 plays by the puzzle rules all the time that I remember, with more understandable puzzles. More often than not, the puzzles in season 2 were normal things taken to the extreme, even the final puzzle. I only recall a couple times in S1 that they went outside the puzzle for the win. (that of course doesn't count when they had the rules changed on them)
