People talk about GT like it was a Mortal Sin...
It wasn't that bad.
The theme is... irritatingly catchy.
What Grand Tour or the original Japanese song?
I actually like Grand Tour.

Dragon Ball GT seems to be hated, and I DO dislike much of what happens in it, but the songs are beautiful.

I have my own reasons for why I think GT is bad. But why does everyone all over the interwebz think its bad. I never really understood why.

Non-cannon and terrible. That is, if it had actually happened. What surprises me even more is that you all actually buy that rumor that there was some followup to Dragonball Z.

Crazy kids and your imaginary "Dragonball GT."

OT: Good and quite entertaining, but terribly overrated. The fanboys can't get it through their heads that just because the characters from Dragonball Z are stronger than characters from a different show, it doesn't make DBZ the better anime.

I've never heard that argument, sounds ridiculous.

Not explicitly, but you can rarely get into a conversation about DBZ with a fanboy without them talking about how Goku could beat [instert character here.] It's annoying. They rarely understand the concept of OP'd characters.

Dragon Ball is not meant to be that serious to begin with. It's full of gags and derp moments. From Saiyans are vegetables in planet [s]vegetable[/s] Vegeta, to Goku and Piccoro getting their driver's license, to the adventurous Chichi turning out to be an overprotective and uberly strict mother, to how all the gods in the show except Shen Long ended up being the ones asking for help every time.

Most likely my opinion is not impartial because I grew up with that show, which was kind of, the main thing that kids watched back then in my generation, before Pokemon's anime debut in Mexico, but the Dragon Ball series DO stand pretty high up there in relation to the anime I like.
I love how their world was constructed, and it really gives me some nostalgia.

Dragon Ball Z had overpowered characters because Freeza was supposed to be the last enemy of the show.
Dragon Ball is all about traveling, having adventures, showing their world, and how the characters with the "Z" symbol got to be together. It even mixes with other stuff from the author, like Arale talking with young Goku when he was passing by Penguin Village, looking for the dragon balls, and randomly for some strong people to fight.
Dragon Ball Z was most likely to tie loose ends and unknowns, like where Goku actually came from/got his powers to begin with, who left Goku where it was when grandpa Gohan found him? and Freeza was established as the main enemy, being a pretty much universal dictator.
That was the intended closure.

Cell wasn't meant to be there. Characters stronger than the ruler of the universe shouldn't even be supposed to exist, but Akira had to keep at it because he was asked to. He was already tired to death of being asked for it by the time he was begged to keep going after Cell.
It was actually the reason he made Goku die against Cell, because it was the new "closure", which was kind of fitting, being from creations of the Red Ribborn, some of the original enemies of the series. With a somewhat reasonable explanation as to why Cell is stronger than Freeza: Because they had been studying Goku all this time and got to register the data of Freeza and SSJ Goku, and all the strength levels for their new androids.

Toriyama then decided to let Goku stay dead, and be reminded as a hero, while his son Gohan took the place of "Main Character", by returning the series to "adventure mode" like in good old Dragon Ball, with his Great Saiyaman ways. It was the turn of a new page.
For some reason, that didn't seem to work (though I liked the idea myself), so the editors got him to bring back Goku somehow, and start with the Majin Boo arch.

After the Majin Boo arch, Akira Toriyama refused to work more on it, and allowed them to do something themselves. GT...

Kai is a disapointment.

The opening animation was great, but only if they actually tried to complete the job and do more than just cut scenes and re-touch colors. I understand that it IS a lot of work, but the whole reason of Kai's existance was stated to be for the sake of quality and fangasm. Dat awkward moment when the show looks almost exactly as the original of 2 decades ago.
What I DO like though, is how I no longer need to see 3+ episodes for a single action.

The actor that originally dubbed the voice of Goku here in Mexico, is legendary among the fans, and the people in charge couldn't get him to voice Goku again. He said that what they wanted to pay him was not even enough for the gasoline he'd spend on his way home, and that they basically wanted to give him the same amount that they originally gave him (he worked on that role around 20 years ago, and the inflation of the currency that I've seen over the years makes me think the offer is ridiculous).
Well, long story short, the new voices here sucked, they weren't even just "different", but they really sucked. The show got cancelled shortly after (for that and other reasons)

Kai for me, would have been awesome if they had gotten the original voice cast, the original soundtracks and music, and if the rest of the show had the quality that they gave to just the opening.
Also, if they had started all the way back from Dragon Ball, and included all the movies/ovas chronologically inside of the show. I'd so love to see that.

Case in point. Such arguments are very tiring.

DBZ wasn't that great. It was boring, the fights felt longer than a boxing match (which is a really bad thing,) and if I remember, the main reason why the bad guys ever gained an advantage was because the heroes were idiots and valued honor/pride/enjoyment of battle BS over more important things like saving the Earth. Worst of all, everybody fought the exact same way, making every fight just "fly, fast punches, teleport, energy blasts, teleport, fly, stand around for 40 minutes to talk about nothing, raise power levels for 2 hours, toss in not-so-unique attack, energy blasts" and "power levels" were valued over skill. There was no hint of intelligence at all in the story, if you could call it a story.

@The Naruto vs. DBZ argument: Fist of the North Star beats them both.
