.:Blu:.
[spoiler=Plot]The Takezawa High School Kendo Club used to be one of the top ten clubs in all of Japan. Twenty years ago, the Takezawa High School Kendo Club was in its prime, going as far as to compete in the National Kendo Circuit, or NKC, and reaching the finals. However, during the finals, the Takezawa Kendo Club suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the reigning champion team from Kuroshima High School. The blow was so great that it caused Takezawa's ace kendoka, Takashi Yamamoto, to quit the sport and drop out of school entirely. Many argued the reason for Takashi's reaction to losing the match against Kuroshima's ace kendoka, "Izanagi" Takaguchi, was because of foul-play on Takaguchi's part. However, none of the claims have been proven to be true. Since then, Izanagi moved on to become the coach of the Kuroshima High School Kendo Club while Takashi was never heard from again. Many of the other key members of the Takezawa Kendo Club also quit the sport just weeks after Takashi had left. Without any of its key kendokas, the Takezawa Kendo Club's reputation and popularity gradually declined until it became a second-rate club. The Takezawa Kendo Club has recently adopted the rank of #64, one of the lowest in Japan. Now there are only three kendokas in the club, an insufficient amount of members. Not having enough members, the Takezawa Kendo Club cannot effectively participate in tournaments and rather have stuck to friendly matches against other second-rate kendo clubs. In all of their friendly matches against other schools, the club is always successful, showing that the club kendokas have the skills to compete in competitions but without any new members willing to sign up, the club is stuck in its current predicament. And then, about a year ago, the coach of the club accepted a coaching position at a school with a better reputation. At this point, it seems as though the club would close entirely, but a teacher by the name of Satoshi Yamada took on the mantle of coach - despite only having a very basic knowledge of kendo - in order to save the club. Still, the Takezawa High School Kendo Club is in desperate need of kendokas. Enter Haru Kazuya, a young man who, despite having never participated in a kendo match, harbors a deep passion for kendo that he developed ever since he was seven. During the time in his life, Haru stumbled across an old VHS tape labeled "NKC Semifinals" in his home. When he watched it and saw Takashi Yamamoto, Haru was instantly hooked on kendo as well as revering Takashi Yamamoto as being his idol. Ever since then, Haru awaited the fateful day where he would join the Takezawa High School Kendo Club - the same club his idol was in. A new school year is now starting with Haru now a 1st year high school student, and his obvious high school of choice is none other than Takezawa High School. Besides Haru, other students have arrived looking to join Takezawa's kendo club as well. But will these new students be able to help Takezawa's kendo club recapture their previous reputation from ten years ago? Join with Haru and his fellow members of the Takezawa High School Kendo Club as they seek to become the number one high school kendo club in all of Japan in this adventurous tale of underdogs! [spoiler=Rules]If you are applying for this RP then it is expected that you know the rules of YCM's RP section and there is no need in having to remind you of them. Those who are unfamiliar of the rules or are new to RPing in general, I highly recommend you do not participate in this RP. This is an anime/manga-esque RP, so the story will be based on chapters, seasons, arcs, etc. Finally, you must understand that my word is final. If you have read the rules, please treat the "Username" portion of the app as a question saying, "Will you do your best to be active in this RP?" and answer with the appropriate response. ~The most important rule of all is to have fun!~ [spoiler=Accepting Terms]First off, you must know that applying for this RP means that you will have to be active, and I do take activity seriously. Do not, and I repeat, do not apply for this RP if you are not in it for the long run. If for some reason you can't be active during a part of the RP's progression, please inform me of your reason(s) via OOC or PM. If this happens, I am allowed to control your character as I see fit until you return. Those who do apply will have a maximum of one character (and cannot be an antagonist) unless I say so otherwise. As of now, I am accepting only three other participants. I will not be taking reserves and will be accepting base of the quality of an app rather than how fast a person can make it. As for open spots in the future, I am unsure as of now but it is probably unlikely that there will be any spot open in the future unless an already accepted participant drops out. [spoiler=Important Info]1) In terms of rating, Strike Prince leans more towards PG-13 in the sense that it does not contain gore due to the premise of the RP. However, swearing is permitted, just don't overdo it too much. Finally, there shouldn't be any extreme sexual content. 2) Strike Prince takes place in Japan in the fictional locale of Takezawa City, home to obviously Takezawa High School. Those of you who watched anime with a modern Japanese setting will know what the architecture and the atmosphere is like. 3) This RP follows a strict story structure and must be followed as so. Irrelevant posts will be warned. The posting style of this RP is turn-based, involving rounds. A round of posting consists of me posting then all other participants will post once, unless some circumstances prevent that from happening. After that round, a new round of posting will begin starting with me posting once more. After I have posted to begin a round, it doesn't matter who posts next as long as we reached the point where everybody posted once for that round. With that being said, those who've RPed with me before should note that this RP won't put that much of an emphasis on lengthy posts and I will definitely use a lot of short posts so I don't mind if you short post when needed. You can have extra posts just for the sake of character development or interaction with other characters to build up relationships. However, this must not conflict with the main story. For example, if the current story is about saving someone and a character suddenly asks another character to go get something to eat, that would be frowned upon. 4) Like my other RPs, this RP will have a central protagonist portrayed by me. However, in addition, the Princess mentioned in the Plot is also a central protagonist on the same level as my character. Characters portrayed by participants are main protagonists. Be sure to note that I treat everyone the same, including myself, and everyone will get a chance to be in the spotlight. If you need to confirm this, ask Desperado of Finale (now named useD Swordsman) or Hotaru987 about how I treat participant characters. [spoiler=5) Simplified Rules of Kendo]*Note that some rules may be removed or altered for the sake of dramatic action* 1. Gear and Equipment of a Kendoka 2. Kendo is played by hitting certain parts of the armor on your opponent with your weapon known as a shinai in order to score a point. When landing a hit, the hitter must shout out the name of the area they are targeting but I will make this optional for the RP. There are three referees that will decide whether a hit is successful in scoring a point by each raising a flag that represents the school of the person who landed the hit. At least two raised flags are needed in order for the point to be counted. A standard match of kendo is won by scoring three points and a match can either end with a person winning or when the time limit is reached (officially five minutes). When the time limit is reached, the person with the most points is declared the winner. In case of a tie, however, there can be three courses of action:• Hiki-wake: The match is declared a draw.• Enchō: The match is continued until either competitor scores a point.• Hantei: The victor is decided by the referees. The three referees vote for victor by each raising one of their respective flags. 3. Here is a diagram to show the areas of armor a kendoka can target and attempt to score a point on:Note that the tsuki is a very difficult attack to pull off due to the fact that it can result in substantial injuries to the throat and neck and only expert kendokas can use a tsuki attack. [spoiler=6) Important Terms]1. Strike Prince - ストライキ•プリンス or Strike Prince is the title of the RP. 2. Kendo - A term translating into "Way of the Sword", kendo is the main focus of the RP. 3. Kendoka - A practitioner of kendo. The best kendoka of a kendo club is known as the ace kendoka. A kendoka's training/practicing uniform looks like this. 4. Takezawa High School - The main setting of the RP, Takezawa High School is located in the fictional locale of Takezawa City. These are Takezawa High School's uniforms but whether your character wears them or not during school hours and how they wear them are completely up to you. 5. Takezawa High School Kendo Club - Called the Takezawa Kendo Club for short, this is the main group of the RP consisting of all the protagonists. 6. Kuroshima High School Kendo Club - The team from this club caused the major defeat of the Takezawa Kendo Club in the NKC finals twenty years ago. Since then, they continued to reign as the number one high school kendo club in all of Japan. 7. National Kendo Circuit - Also known as the NKC is an organization that created a prestigious nationwide competition for kendo about fifty years ago. They hold competitions every year with a grand competition happening every four years. 8. Takashi Yamamoto - The ace kendoka of the Takezawa Kendo Club twenty years ago. He and many other claimed that his opponent won the NKC finals by cheating; however, none of the claims have been proven true. After the defeat, Takashi quit the kendo club and dropped from Takezawa High School. Since then, no one has seen or heard from Takashi ever again. 9. "Izanagi" Takaguchi - Izanagi, whose real first name is Osamu, is known far and wide as being a "God of Kendo". Many speculated that he won against Takashi Yamamoto by cheating; however, such claims have never been proven. Since his victory in the NKC finals, Izanagi went on to become a national champion in kendo and later retired from kendo to become the current coach of the Kuroshima High School Kendo Club. If you still have any questions or if I am missing anything, please feel free to contact me both in the OOC and through PM. Personal InfoUsername: YesName: Haru Kazuya (和弥•春 Lit. Kazuya Haru)Age: 16Gender: MaleDate of Birth: August 28Blood Type: ABHobby(s): Reading Manga; Taking Care of Animals in Takezawa High School's Pet ClubHigh School Year: 1st Year[spoiler=Appearance:] Haru stands at a measly height of 168 cm (5'06") and weighs in at 62 kg (137 lbs). As if being short wasn't enough, Haru is also pretty weak and scrawny in comparison against what an average male kendoka should be like. This causes him to easily be overpowered by other kendokas. Haru's most prominent features are his lustrous black hair and sharp blue eyes. During school hours, Haru wears his uniform unbuttoned, showing a white dress shirt underneath with a black tie. When not at school, Haru usually wears a dark blue, hooded jacket over a variety of t-shirts, dark trousers, and white sneakers. [spoiler=Personality:]Ever since he was mesmerized by watching Takashi in the NKC semifinals, Haru has developed a deep passion for kendo. As a child, Haru would practice with a bokken, a wooden katana, every day in order to develop his skills as a future kendoka. With his hardworking and determined nature, Haru trained continuously for hours without stopping. However, no matter how hard Haru trained, he would always be trampled by kids bigger and physically stronger him. Even so, Haru's persistence never allowed him to be discouraged. Being weak, Haru is easily impressed by strong people and people who tend to show off, often referring to them as a "senpai" or "sensei" depending on their age. Haru also has a habit of thinking highly of techniques with "cool-sounding" names. And if the technique impresses him enough, Haru will push the person to teach it to him. Haru can become quite hostile, confrontational, and serious when someone insults the people he thinks of as his superiors. Haru is easily confused by poetic phrases or philosophical meanings. He favors a concrete explanation of things rather than the abstract version. This causes Haru to be good at things like math but is below average when it comes to literature. Generally a good guy, Haru helps others when he can and doesn't ask anything in return, reasoning that the help was just out of "convenience". Unbeknownst to many, Haru loves caring for animals almost as much as he loves kendo and he secretly helps the Takezawa High School Pet Club in caring for the extensive amount of animals they have on campus. Sometimes, when Haru feels sad, he will go spend time alone with the animals rather than moping around by himself. [spoiler=Bio:]Haru's parents were originally from Kyoto and they are avid fans of kendo; with Haru's father, himself, being a kendoka in high school. Before they had Haru, the two of them went to Takezawa along with their siblings-in-law to watch an NKC semifinals match and to root for a family member who was a kendoka for Takezawa High School. After the competition was over, Haru's parents loved the serene city of Takezawa so much that they decided to move here. Some three years later, Haru was born. In the early stages of his childhood, Haru was quite the sports fanatic, enjoying soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball, tennis, and much more. Unfortunately, Haru was physically weak and could not join any sports team at the elementary school he attended. Rather, Haru depended on his friendly neighbors to play with him in sports. Even though Haru had a smile on the outside, everyone knew that deep down Haru was very torn by the fact that he couldn't participate in any sport. One day, when Haru was seven years old, he discovered a VHS tape labeled "NKC Semifinals" in his house's attic. Curiosity got to him and so Haru watched the tape to find out that it was about a kendo tournament. Up to this point in his life, Haru had never known kendo even existed. After watching Takashi Yamamoto in action however, Haru was amazed so much that he decided that from then on, his life would revolve around kendo. Haru told his father about kendo and his father was quite ecstatic, even giving Haru a bokken to practice with. From then on, Haru would practice every day of his life with the bokken, going even as far as to bring the bokken with him to school. Needless to say he got into fights with bullies who like to mock Haru and his goals. And each time, Haru would lose but he was always persistent and kept at it. Haru soon realized that it wasn't about getting stronger for him but to get faster, to react quicker, and to hit more efficiently. By then however, the bullies have grown tired of beating up Haru and completely ignored him, which Haru actually found a bit annoying. In middle school, Haru attempted to join the kendo club at his school but like before, they ridiculed him for being physically inept and wouldn't even allow him to demonstrate what he can do. Haru tried every day to show the members of the club his skills only to fail at getting their attention. Failing to join the kendo club, Haru continued to keep training alone and decided to set his sights on joining Takezawa High School's club - the same club Takashi Yamamoto was in. With middle school over, Haru spent his entire vacation polishing the skills he had so far in preparation of showing the kendokas of Takezawa High that someone physically weak as him can be good at a sport like kendo. Finally, the first day of high school is starting and Haru is looking straight ahead at his goal. Combat InfoWeapon Style: Ittō[spoiler=Fighting Style:]Being physically weak, Haru relies on his small stature, quickness, and reaction speed to his advantage. Haru heavily relies on counterattacking rather than outright attacking. His parrying skills are decent but when faced against physically tougher opponents, Haru would rather use his swiftness to dodge attacks rather than risk getting hit in a series of parries. With an extraordinary reaction time, Haru can perform a dodge-turn-strike formation all in a matter of two seconds, making unorganized assaults against Haru a dangerous thing to do. And thanks to his small stature, Haru becomes quite a small target for his opponent; causing the chances of landing a successful strike on Haru to be below satisfactory. [spoiler=Ability(s):]Superior Reaction Speed: Arguably Haru's best advantage, his reaction speed is beyond amazing. He is able to process incoming attacks more quickly than the average person which allows him to react accordingly. The speed of his reaction is almost one second faster than the average kendoka, and with proper training, that, already extraordinary, reaction speed can be further increased. Because of his reaction speed, Haru has the potential to become the strongest counter kendoka ever. Adept Strategist: Since he faced off against kids much larger than him when he was younger, Haru developed strategy-building skills that allows him to think of on-the-fly plans to utilize against his opponents. Adaptability: Also stemming from his conflicts against bullies of all types, Haru has developed the ability to adapt his actions to be used against his opponents. Although his adaptability may not be entirely perfect, it is usually enough for him to stand his ground against each individual opponent and sometimes even gain the advantage over them. Tsuki: Despite being an amateur who has never competed against anyone in a proper kendo match, Haru's superior reaction speed and physical weakness allows him to perform Tsuki without worrying about causing substantial damage to the opponent's throat or neck. [spoiler=Technique(s):]Hakanai Yuki: Hakanai Yuki (儚い雪 Lit. Ephemeral Snow) is a technique in which Haru performs a quick turning dodge just when the opponent feels he/she is in a confident position and attacks. Haru then attacks the opponent's tsuki. Asa no Soyokaze: Asa no Soyokaze (朝のそよ風 Lit. Morning Breeze) is a technique in which Haru tricks the opponent into utilizing a strike to either Haru's head or torso, and then quickly steps back in order to land an attack below the either side of the opponent's arms. Jōhin Tetsu: Jōhin Tetsu (上品鉄 Lit. Polished Iron) is a technique that requires parrying and so is not often used by Haru. In this technique, Haru waits for the opponent to attempt a strike to which Haru with parry with all of his strength. Haru will then feint the opponent, allowing them to think he will try to attack their tsuki, but instead Haru tosses his shinai just a few centimeters into the air, quickly catches it, and then ends the technique with a strike to the opponent's head. Other Info• Haru (春) translated into English means the season of "Spring" while Kazuya (和弥) can be translated into "Complete Peace" so together, Haru's entire name can collectively mean "Completely Peaceful Spring".• Haru's theme song is Kaze ni Fukarete (風に吹かれて Lit. Blowing in the Wind) by Aqua Timez.• Haru maintains a GPA of 2.79 which is slightly above normal for Japanese schools.• Haru's favorite food is Yakitori while his least favorite food is Hiyayakko.
