Your Top 5 Final Fantasy Games

Have played:

III - Good to see how things were originally. Enjoyable, but the difficulty ratcheded up so fast unless you changed all your characters jobs to each bossess specific weakness, thus I felt I was being made to fight and could only win by using one determined strategy, not through my own style and letting people grow how they want.

IV - Awesome story, full of warming characters that could often be shed a tear over as they 'died'. Introduced a lot of new elements compared to III, (although hard for me to say playing remakes) and felt greatly accomplished to complete.

V - Really never got into this one at all. The villian is called X-Death... wow.

VII - My first FF, so will always be special. The struggle of a group using not so moral extremist tactics to take on an evil corporation that has blinded everyone was a really powerful and dilemma involved story to start, and Sephiroth was an awesome dark one. Enjoyed a lot of the mystery and suspense, and side quests like the battle arena and just the random moments like 'Cloud in a dress' made it quite an earthy dark game compared to the usual magic and fantasy ones. Ending... wasn't as good the second time around.

VIII - Game I completed most recently, and for all my nerves about thinking it was a complicated battle system it really wasn't. Loved the GF system and the way battles worked, the story (although Edea did suck with her turn), Squall and Rinoa and Zell and Quitis, and the final battle was frankly epic. I had Squall level 100 and Zell level 91 and still struggled, and when I won I went into full D.Bryan mode. Plus the ending... my god that was epic.

IX - I really want to play this game again (need a new disc 2). The characters and story were so colourful and varied, each with their own problems and stories whereas VII was more all about Cloud and Aeris predominately with the others being really only supportive, it felt a bit more of a collective group of main characters.

X - So much new stuff, some of which was better than others (never a fan of the turn battle system). But the story was so powerful (Yuna will die you know? WHAT!?!?) and the world so beautiful, really immersive game. Blitzball and Monster Arena were two of the best side games ever.

X-2 - Enjoyable to see a sequal and a mission based game where you could do what you wanted when you wanted rather than follow a story, and enjoyed the job change systems return (as a system, not for dresspheres!) But was just a very corny story, and was just fanservice.

XII - Story was too political which is a turn off, and found it very confusing. And really didn't like the battle system. There was just a sense of if I set my auto-actions defensively enough, I could walk into a boss fight, leave the room for half an hour, and come back to see the victory screen. Didn't like the characters for the most part. However Hunter's Guild was one of the other best side quests ever, and definately the best part of the game. License grid development system was also pretty good.

So I guess that means... oh this is tough. No, it's impossible. That's the great thing about FF, they're all so different and refreshing and new each time, its like trying to compare a Ferrari and an Aston Martin and a Range Rover and an Aerial Atom and a Maybach and saying which is the best. It just can't be done.

My top five are undoubtly IV, VII, VIII, IX and X, but couldn't order them at all.
