I decided to try my hand at making an exceed/XYZ monster
so tell me what you think

ATK 0 DEF 0 Attribute Dark Zombie
3 level 3 Zombie-type monsters
This card gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each XYZ material attached to it. If this card would be destroyed, you can detach one XYZ material from this card instead.

Suggestions on improvements are much appreciated

It's simple and strong. Not amazing, but for sure worth more than 2 Materials.

It has 3000 maximum ATK and a good self-protective effect. So it would often be better than Acid Golem or Leviathan Dragon. Since it's easy to get out 2 Level 3 Zombies, making it a 3-parter seems fair.

i see your point, and there aren't many lv 3 zombies worth running in a skull servant deck, Lady and Spirit Reaper aside.

The main problem with this is that you most likely would rather have the three level 3 zombies or make levair to go fetch you a king of the skull servant that got removed somehow.
