"Atropal Abomination": A Monster with no Level? What the...?

Aside from Xyzs, I can't think of any monsters that aren't treated as having a Level. Note that it is not treated as being a Level 0 monster (which is outright against the rules), but as not having a level at all like an Xyz. This means that it can't be used as Synchro or Xyz Material; considering it's a Level 7, that could be a fair handicap. On the plus side, it can give other monsters its effect, which is handy for (ab)using "Gravity Bind" or "Level Limit" cards or eliminating potential Materials. It's based on the atropal, a monster introduced in 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons; atropals are horrifying undead demigods (disturbingly like aborted fetuses) that can turn their foes into undead.

This monster cannot be Special Summoned. As long as this card is on the field, it is treated as not having a Level. Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can select 1 monster on the field; that monster is treated as not having a level until the End Phase of your opponent's next turn.

I like it. I just don't see any actual use for it.

Well essentially it can't be used to Synchro summon or Xyz summon but once a turn it can select an opponents monster and make it non-material as well. Since today's meta consists of Synchro or Xyz summoning, I think this card can be very useful, albeit situationally. Very interesting concept though.

I think for something that needs 2 tributes and can't be Special'd, I'd be silly to be using this instead of L&DD or Creator. Especially since all Zombie support is based around special-ing and level 7 is generally weaker than level 8. Especially in a format of 3 MST and Scrap Dragon on the lose, Level Limit/Gravity Bind.dek need far more drastic support to be useful.

It can't make them non-material, seeing that it's effect can only be activated during your turn and is active until the End Phase, and affects only your monsters.

Improved, but when you have a 2700 ATK beater on the field, how often will they have face-up material that you can't just destroy? Honestly, to 'balance' this, I'd let it activate during either player's turn, but I don't like the design of that. It prevents your opponent from pulling off fun plays by neutering their attempt at bringing out most cool boss monsters. If you want the concept to work, I think you need to create more incentive to have level-less monsters - such as tribute a level-less monster to draw 2 cards, and some other support. As a single, it's only use is to ruin the other player's fun plays.

Well, it's a DARK monster. It's all about ruining other plays. *sinister laughter*
I jest. I made this partly due to my intense dislike of Xyzs (too much power for too little cost in my opinion) and partly as an experiment to make a card that subverts one of the basic ideas of Yu-Gi-Oh. Besides, atropals are pretty powerful in DnD, so nerfing it wouldn't fit with that game...not that it matters. I might make more, but this is basically an experimental single.

In fact, if you see "What the...?" in one of my thread titles, it's probably some sick, sadistic experiment that won't be expanded too far.
