Peter Segal is writing it?

It's going to be a bad film. If DBZ couldn't work as a live action movie, this can't. They should have tried after some other series.

Though it's good to see them at least TRY to make an anime into a Hollywood movie.

As for your cast list, all I can say is that if they go ahead with a cast like that, then it will be a terrible movie. Half of those actors are absolute s***.

Now Death Note... that could DEFINITELY work as a Hollywood film. THAT is the type of movie they should make.

But wait, are they making an American Death Note movie?
That [s]WOULD[/s] could theoretically kick a*s.

The following anime have been optioned, rumored to be in production, or are legitimately in pre-production:
Bleach
Death Note
Akira
[other stuff I don't know about...]

All of them, so far as we know are in development hell, or at least some kind of a development purgatory. The last news on the Death Note movie was a fake leak claiming to be a treatment of the plot and that Zack Effrom would play Light, and that was like a year ago. The Akira movie at least had actual production details involving the director, and someone being cast in some role or another.

Let me explain something. Every successful franchise you have ever heard of has been optioned by a movie studio. Movies that are "optioned" (essentially, it means the studio now has the rights to make a movie about the optioned property) are virtually never made. So owners of IP sell of the movie rights without a second thought, because it will never get made. It's basically a studio asking if it's okay for them to give the creator several million dollars. ago).

tl;dr Extremely unlikely to get made, may not even exist.

A Naruto movie might not suck as much as you think depending on how it is made:

1). To the guy who says Liam. Neeson won't do an anime movie, I have just 1 word for you Ponyo.

2) If they do actually make a bleach movie which does have the potential to be epic, they won't use any well known actors or actresses due to budget.

3) I wish everybody would stop beating up on live action anime movies.

4) Here is a list of live action anime movies that was done well.

1. Shrills cries of the summer.
2. Mushi shi.
3. Video girl ai.
4. Death note 1 and 2.
5. Saikano.
6. The last air bender.

I was thinking of a live action anime movie as opposed to any anime movie, but that didn't seem clear, so I'll give you that.

With what we've been given, it's hard to be optimistic.

I can't speak for the other movies since I haven't seen them, but Last Air Bender wasn't really done well at all. Even the show's creators were making fun of the adaption.

@Denver

While I can't compare the anime of avatar the last air bender and the movie having only seen the movie, the live action version was done well compared to the last piece of trash we had made live action. (dragon ball evolution.)

@Op

I highly doubt Emma watson would be cast as Orihime.

I'd really love to see a live action movie of the anime Spiral.

Um, I kinda liked that Naruto fan-movie.
Compared to DBZ (not even mentioning the actual s*** produced), Naruto is way easier to actualize in realistic acting and special effects.
I mean, some characters would need extensive make-up, sure, but their movements and moves aren't THAT hard to play.
Well, I'm VERY disappointed with the DBE s*** too - they definitely didn't get really involved, that's THE reason - nothing to do with money or effects.
They simply opted for it to be a piece of s***.
Naruto could be made worth watching, but of course, it CAN be easily ruined as well...
Whatever...

All of those except Last Airbender were made in Japan. And Last Airbender was generally considered to be possibly the worst movie of the year.
Akira was cancelled, probably because every idea about it was utter s*** and ruined the point of the movie in the first place. Also, can't believe you forgot Bebop. Bebop is actually in development. It's just that they don't have the money for the kind of script that was written for it, so they have to find a way to shrink it down.

A large number of animes that become live-action movies deeply fail, and only about 5% make the cut. The DBZ movie was total crap. The Bleach ones I saw from clips also seemed a bit funny. Sometimes there's this vibe that it's more better in cartoons than in reality. Maybe because the anime's setting has to be a bit realistic.

And another Death Note live action doesn't seem so bad. The previous one looked and went meh, but with the innovation of btter movie quality, I'm looking forward to it.

Just curious what most of you are judging live action anime movies on, is it having watched them or having heard or read about them?
Most people probably saw Last Airbender. Of the other movies you mentioned (which I repeat were made in Japan, not by Hollywood), the only ones I saw were the two Death Note movies, which I liked a lot, although I think a lot of people didn't like them at all. I haven't even seen DBE.

There was a Speed Racer movie. Anybody remember that? Me neither.
