fantasy MMORPG's need more skill based game play

You know I realized in my gaming career that I've never had much experience with an MMO fantasy RPG that really required skill to play. Your abilities were honestly limited by your drops, skill strength and knowledge of your tree build which you can pretty much find on wiki anytime you wanted.

I've thought of a new concept that could probably be the fresh new "something" the gaming industry needed for its hungry demanding consumers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a 3rd person platform operated MMORPG with live action input elements

for example, let us take the classic irreplaceable knight class.

in most MMORPG's set in a 3rd person platform, everything is operated and controlled by the mouse, a right click would function an auto targeting system and slash your opponent once the blade on your avatar is in range.

Well that's no fun, where’s the chaos in that?

Instead the movement should be dictated like a 3rd person shooter, in which a slash or your basic attack would be your left click and your set hot key skill would be right click. WASD would be your moving forward, moon walking, strafing left and right.

Along with this you could swap skills to your right click using, let’s say numeric hotkeys.

This way it would be much more exciting and interactive. You wouldn't just be watching your character hack away as you mindlessly wait for cool downs. You would actually be moving the character as you would move, hitting your opponent moving back to recover or dodge a pattern, etc...

this way characters like the archer or bowman can continue to moonwalk as they fire and would actually have to aim to connect damage to an opponent, instead of depending on the auto target of right click.

But that's not all there is lots of use for WASD commands.
For example, generally running forward is much faster than moon walking, therefore a swords man could easily catch up to a bowman and kill him by closing the distance. But by double tapping "S" and holding it down, you would activate a skill increasing your moon walking speed temporarily, lasting however long depending on the points spent into the skill.

The possibilities are quite endless just by changing the platforming style and skill activation keys
this concept is quite expansive and I have mapped out many different way of implementing these two characteristics.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if you guys have any ideas to add to this or just wanna throw in something cool, be my guest, its open to experiment with just for fun.

It’s just an idea so it’s not actually being made or anything, if a lot people like the idea then I will introduce the idea to connections with in the game developing business.

These exist already. A few examples of FREE to play games that do this are Vindictus, Dragon Saga, C9, and RaiderZ. I might be missing a few though and quite frankly these are for the most part pretty good games but Vindictus, the oldest one, has been around for a while. There are other games that require more skilled play such as Dungeon Fighter Online (a game I know you've checked out) and Rusty Hearts (probably one of my fave MMOs that I really need to play more) that are both good games I've played that I recommend. But I don't believe many of these games do a lot in terms of platforming if that's something you care about.

Because not only is Fallout a Fantasy style game but it's also an MMO and NOT A F*CKING SHOOTER.

oh yeah I played DFO, rusty hearts and vindictus, there all really good, but they need more games like that or better than that, its been very limited and I've haven't seen it booming yet.

Actually, it's been booming like crazy. I did just give a bunch of other examples that have a very similar style to Vincictus. Not to mention the pay to play game Tera and then there's Guild Wars 2 which will have a more skilled based gameplay and since it's only buy to play I might actually get it. And then I CAN NOT forget Phantasy Star Online 2 which will actually be getting a US release and it also looks really good. Also, there's a game that went into open beta in Korea last month I believe called Blade and Soul. It's pay to play but from what I've seen looks absolutely amazing.

AND HOW COME WE'VE NEVER PLAYED THOSE GAMES TOGETHER?!

Edit:
Oh, and I believe Phantasy Star will be free to play.

I spat out six not even 15 minutes ago in my very first post.

And yeah, the boom has probably been more recent seeing as how C9 and just recently went into open beta in the past month or so. RaiderZ might still be in closed beta but I'm not too sure. Tera has been around for a few months but again, it's pay to play so I probably won't play it for a while. Dragon Saga has been around for a bit less than Vindictus but has still been out for a long time. And I forgot about DC Universe Online which is an excellent game from a gameplay perspective but it's free to play model is terrible. It's been free to play for a while too. PO2 is very recent news too. But you should just subscribe to MMOBomb on youtube. The channel might actually be freemmogamer though. MMOHut has pretty much gone down the crapper (although I'm still subscribed for obvious reasons of news) and MMOBomb picked up a great guy from MMOHut. Not to mention the weekly podcasts MMOBomb do which I can get a lot of info from in terms of MMO news.

Check out path of exile, its basically Diablo 2 but an MMO (and no retarded cash auction house like D3) Its still in beta but its going to be f2p. You can apply for a beta key, they give them out randomly every few hours.

Its not WSAD movement but it does require a alot of micromanagement of your characters movement and position especially on the more fragile classes. Later in the game monsters will instagib you if they catch you.

Or try Tera, thats more along the lines of what he wants.
