Night
The first is pretty cool actually, looks like a female version of scizor, and looks like it could actually work as a pokemon. However it's definitely got some coloring problems. The silverish blue isn't working well. The hands look dis-attached from the actual body. The second looks really clean, and If you would have showed me that sprite I'd have simply thought it was a legit pokemon. Don't know which pokemon you used (I know every pokemon from the first 3 generations and nothing more). In cases like these, you should pull a Jappio and put the sprites used in the thread for reference. Regardless, looks clean but rather bland. Don't like the last at all, the shading doesn't look right, and It looks like a simple recolor. On another note, you got me motivated to open up paint. Zeroshot
Let me just say, these are very clean looking and high quality sprites, and you did a good job on all of them Starting with Scizor+Volcarona: Probably the best looking sprite up there. The combination works very well, and there seems to be a good balence of Volcarona in the splice's base. Volcarona's 'head dress' and wings look very nice on Scizor's base. There are two things to keep in mind when splicing Scizor, however the first is the overall texture. Scizor is very smooth as opposed to Volcarona, who has a fuzzy coat. It appears as if you kept both textures, as Scizor's chest in the splice is smooth, but then changes in his lower section to a fuzzy abdomen. It's not like this detail will ruin a sprite or anything, but taking some more detail from Volcarona's texture might be worth looking into. The second thing you need to keep in mind when working with Scizor- or any pokemon, really- is the pokemon's perspective. The point that jumps out a me on your splice are the 'hands' of Volcarona. The four black dots that you've added to Scizor's abdomen, I imagine, should be centered on his body, however Scizor himself is angled to the left more so than Volcarona, so spacing in between the hands is different. As this is a small detail, the fix is equally as small and moving the bottom two of Volcarona's dots one pixel to our left can change the entire perspective of the lower half of the sprite so that it matches the top. It also might not hurt the sprite if Volcarona's blue was brightened up a bit. All in all, I do like this splice a lot, and it shows a lot of talent. Lumineon+Manetric My least favorite type of pokemon sprites are fish. Fish are just difficult to work with, especially when you want to add a quadripod, however you managed to merge thes pokemon quite nicely. The sprite is very clean, very reasonable and the combination just works. I don't like Lumineon's tale, however. Don't get me wrong, I hate Lumineon's tale just when it's on Lumineon, but here I think something resembling Manetric's tale may benifit the sprite, but who am I to judge.. Leaving the awkward tale of Lumineon would work just as well. The main fin seems to be connecting to the very top of the fish's body, or behind the left 'ear.' I believe that it could just be blended into the side of Lumineon's body by eliminating the long dark border that goes to the ear area, and blending the yellow sections together. The scratch work hear is very nice, though. On the topic of scratch work, the ears themselves also were done well, but the left ear has four strands coming out of it, and the right only has two. Maybe it's just my perspective, but the right ear looks kind of empty compared to the left. Moving on to a more advanced part of spriting, let's talk about facial expressions. Manetirc is a pissed of guard dog, so naturally his facial expression says "I'm pissed off." Lumineon, on the other hand, is so freaking happy, and his facial expression says "I'm so freaking happy." It's up to the spriter which expression they wan't their sprite to have, but since Manetric's anger is a major part of the original Manetric sprite, it would be cool to see that brought out in the splice. Also, Lumineon's purple eye color, I feel, works with Manetric's yellow and Manetric's blue, but not at the same time. Personally, I like Manetric's red more, but it honestly doesn't matter, the sprites face is pretty good either way. Krokorok + Feraligatr First of, congrats on using Krokorok (or as I like to call him, "King of Awkward Poses" successfully in a sprite. I mean, seriously, when I first saw him I had no idea what was going on with his arms. Where as the last sprite was very clean cut and balenced, this one is not, and I blame Krokorok's black designs. This sprite has so much potential that's ruined by too much Krokorok and not enough Feraligatr. When you think about sprites that are so similar in theme, being that they're both alligaters/crocodiles, you need to really think of details. Now, since your using Krokorok as a main base, I'd focus more on what makes Feraligatr unique. When I think of Feraligatr, I think of his large yellow jaw, his beady eyes, his red spikes and his yellow... underwear-like object. Thankfully, Krokorok's unique aspects don't overlap any of these, which leaves him wide open to edit. The black stripe pattern, I don't think works at all. It makes the sprite look busy and, more importantly, messy. The black eyes... that's a tough one because it's one of Krokoroks main features, but they don't work unless the black stripes are there, so that's a bit of a judgement call for the spriter. I think the main fix to this sprite would be more Feraligatr, less Krokorok. Also, remember if you flip anything horizontally (Spikes on head), you need to reshade to match the rest of the sprite. All in all, great splices. I liked them a lot, and each were done very well with only nit-picky type things that needed fixing. Also, really hope I didn't come off as rude in this post, as it wasn't my intent.
