Official One Piece Anime & Manga Discussion Thread

The thing is, the pace of the anime has always been like this. Even the Crocodile fight lasted a long time.

The arcs are long on purpose, so that the anime doesn't catch up to the manga too quickly and we don't have to get fillers shoved down our throats. I prefer slow pacing than fillers, personally.

I feel like the pacing in the older days was still faster than now.

For example, I noticed one way they've done serious padding since the timeskip is adding/expanding scenes where random townsfolk commentate on what's happening.

And people running. Anytime there's a group of people running, MCs or not, that'll take up a good chunk of time too.

At the very least, the anime didn't play those up until around Impeldown or the War Summit, I want to say.

I'd honestly prefer fillers. That way, you can skip those during rewatches. Plus, if they want to make a remastered Kai version some years down the line, they'll have a way easier time doing so for Naruto than they will for One Piece since OP's source material is stretched out, including the actual fighting bits.

Fair points. But since I don't like to rewatch stuff, I still prefer a slower pacing than fillers.

[spoiler=HA!]

Looks like Jack got his sheet wrecked.

Maybe he'll survive somehow, but I'd be totally fine with him being out of the picture at this point.

And as for why only Luffy and Momonosuke could hear Zou...I'm not sure. Don't think it's Will of D because Law didn't react. Maybe it's a Conqueror's Haki thing and Momonosuke has latent potential for it, who knows.

[spoiler=hmm]

Law doesn't react a lot though does he?

Seems like some kinda parallel cause Roger=Luffy, Momo=Oden

[spoiler=Well]This is the same sort of thing about how Roger and Luffy could hear the Sea Kings, right? The whole "voice of all things" stuff.

If Jack is really dead, I think it's sort of sad to see him go. I feel like he didn't get to do much, at least in opposition to the main cast. Most of what we saw about him were flashbacks or things told second hand, when the Straw Hats weren't even around, he doesn't feel well established yet.

Alright, new arc's starting! I did not expect Vivi to reenter the picture, that should be cool to see her reunite with the Straw Hats (because of course they're gonna). It'd be interesting if she powered up the past couple years and actually joined.

Also cool to see that Franky can make Den-Den Mushis (don't know why I thought they were natural) and that Nami got a power-up.

[spoiler=823]

So Blackbeard managed to storm Baltigo. I'm sure at least some of the Revolutionaries (the important ones) escaped.

And I didn't expect this summit, but that's cool. I'm betting some sheet will go down and they'll get attacked by...somebody.

The Straw Hat shenanigans were pretty funny on their ship, been a while since we've had a good dose of that.

[spoiler=823]So Sabo's brother is now the king of Gao, interesting. It'll be really cool to see all the royalty get together, especially since it seems we'll get to see a bit more of Vivi and Shirahoshi and their groups.

Also, Carrot is insanely freaking adorable, I never really noticed before. Oda y u do dis to me, I don't wanna be a furry.

Baltigo getting destroyed reminds me that Blackbeard stole the Gura Gura Fruit, oh yeah.

Holy sheet, I didn't even realize that first detail.

Awesome.

I agree, we haven't spent as much time with the royalty side of One Piece as the other parts of the world, so this should be fun.

[spoiler=Chapter 824]Lots of on deck shenanigans this episode. Luffy finally figuring out what his dad looks like, lol. The different forms of drunk Kaido was pretty funny, too.

And so we finally see Sanji's bride-to-be, and it looks like it's that 3-eyed girl from chapter 651:

I'm also extremely glad to see Jack is still alive, turns out that mouthpiece he had hid from us the fact he's a fishman. I want to see more of him.

[spoiler=Interesting details this chapter]

Blackbeard seriously wounded the Revolutionaries (man, he keeps funking with Luffy's family).

Jack is still alive at the bottom of the ocean, that's nucking futs.

Kaido's unstable when he drinks. And he funked up Kidd. So Apoo joined Kaido, Kidd didn't, and that leaves Hawkins unaccounted for.

Guess this also shows that Luffy may not be able to take Kaido alone, at least right now. I'd surmise he, Kidd, and Law are all around the same power level.

And Sanji is set to marry the 3-eyed girl from before.

Reiju was a fun character, we should be getting more fun interactions with her and the rest of the crew during the next arc.

[spoiler=827]

Oda has a real knack for either amazing or stupefying me with his double spreads. This chapter's fell dead center in the latter, that display with Big Mom was full of tomfuckery, I loved it.

Also interesting that Luffy's group met Pudding. I like that she also has a knack for cooking like Sanji.
