NEW CHAPTER

I just realized: Doflamingo succeeded where Crocodile was stopped, in fact, there are some uncanny similarities overall.

And it took me this long to realize all of the Schichibukai at the start of the series had an animal motif.

It was either my friend that brought it up or someone here, but this arc and the Alabasta arc have a fair bit of parallels.

That dastardly, diabolical, demonic, demoralizing, destructive Doflamingo has done it again.

One of One Piece's greatest strengths is its villains. Part of what made Fishman Island less good was that Hordy was just a poor bad guy (though that does seem to be what Oda wanted). Flamingo though has been insanely amazing. Everything about him works and we have been shown clearly that this dude is very smart and very insane. I really do love this character.

This is the one minor problem I have with the arc so far, actually. I keep expecting there to be some twist on the Alabasta parallel but everything's been following the same formula so far.

Of course, if Oda takes this to its logical conclusion and it turns out Doffy has somehow gotten his hands on the Pluton, well, then it'll just be amazing.

[spoiler=blooodie hoo]

Loved seeing more Monet.

PICA!! My god i did not expect that at all. I thought his silhouette was armor, but no, just his muscles.

Franky just cant hold back his tears. at all. Just one big puddle of robotic emotions.

I thought most of the soldiers were sent to the Coliseum but i guess that's not exactly true.

It's still weird when Robin reacts. Just makes it doubly funny.

Would've liked seeing Barty trying to direct Luffy, but hey, that'll be half an episode for the anime.

Robin's reaction face still put me on tilt and it still feels out of character. I guess she changed a fair bit during the 2 year skip and having been with the crew for so long now.

Anyway, amazing chapter as always. Flashbacks in One Piece tend to drag and do get a little dull after while (fishmen island) but the way its been done for this arc has been amazing. Can't wait to see the stuff with Bellamy next week.

I've started noticing the similarities with Alabasta as well.

I'm indifferent to it, personally. Alabasta was a good arc and Doflamingo's different enough from Crocodile so it doesn't feel like a total rehash. I personally want Rebecca to join the Straw Hats, but that's just me.

I love how Robin's been more reactive, it's funny.

I know why Oda is always taking breaks, but it still sucks to have it keep happening. Also, I'm pretty sure the break is just until the week after next. For some reason the renumbering of jump issues starts in December so thats when #2 comes out.

Anyway, did anyone else think Nami's face looked really child-like on page 12. Like, it looked REALLY different. Chopper also looked off on that pahe. Sanji looked fine though.

I just had the oddest argument. So people are always wanting Sabo to actually be alive somewhere, but I point out that he was confirmed dead in one of the databooks, which are canon. One guy's response was essentially, "The databooks don't talk about future events, just because he's dead in the past doesn't mean he won't be alive in the future."

Oh, internet...

I've actually seen people who think Tra-guy is Sabo. On the cover of Chapter 596, there was sort of a, "what if" image of a grown up Sabo with Ace (note the lack of the marked out S in his tattoo) and Luffy, and he looks nothing like Tra-guy. Also, if he has a, "what if you weren't dead" image about him, there's the prerequisite that he's dead.

Hard to say, we're building up a precedent for non-flashback deaths: Ace, Whitebeard, the Merry, Monet, Vergo. But I don't see Tra-guy dying anytime soon, either.

Also, speaking of Monet, why didn't Luffy use his Red Hawk on her? Even without Haki, fire is probably one of the natural weaknesses of the Snow Snow Fruit (like how Crocodile could be hit while wet or Luffy's rubber body could hit Eneru).
