Agro
HI. MY NAME IS AGRO. I'VE KNOWN ABOUT FUN. SINCE BEFORE IT WAS COOL. Some Nights is BY AND FAR the best song on that album. We Are Young is only so overplayed because it was released as a single and is a good way to end the night. Oh, and anyone who hates them just because We Are Young is overplayed on the radio, just go f*ck yourself, who do you think you're kidding? Oh, btw, it's dangerous to go alone, take this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctKLHavZ_AE&lc=QD9e7y8x-RajhqQQebSIzwmHOBQsSF_6K-0XylMQWfU&feature=inbox
Marisa Kirisame-ze
I am such a huge fan of fun. Their songs have so much potential and the lead has such a unique and wondrous voice. "We Are Young" is so hyped up compared to their other songs. They have so many better songs on the album, that sometimes I wish was more picked up. Even their first album is really amazing and energizing to listen to. My favorite songs by them currently are "All Alright", "The Gambler", and "Be Calm". Also "All the Pretty Girls" is my Saturday night jam song.
Tormented
I agree I was listening to their other songs, They are all amazing but like everyone was giving that song more kudos than the others deserve, but seriously i'm glad I came up on them. Plaguespreader Zombie
Why do you say that?
Some Nights as a whole is a lot less emotional that Aim and Ignite, which I think was one of the higher points on Aim and Ignite. They're a pop band. Lyrics are going to be important in their music - perhaps more than the music itself, although I love the orchestral elements they have. The hip-hop influences on Some Nights come off as silly, but that's more a personal qualm which I don't believe Rock/Pop music and Hip-Hop music should ever come together (the end result being almost exclusively awful). The production is one of the higher points on Some Nights but Aim and Ignite's production is still imo better. The autotune on most tracks (most notably "It Gets Better"; which is an absolute horrendous song but it doesn't lie; the second half of the album is MUCH better) almost kills the lead singer's voice, which is absolutely beautiful and doesn't need any sort of help from autotune. Some Nights seems artificial (again: It Gets Better), which completely clashes with what fun. had established themselves as a band with. Aim and Ignite came from the heart. I don't want to blame the switch from an Indie Label to a Major Label, but I can't help but think that's probably the reason; although Fueled By Ramen isn't terrible. Some Nights isn't awful it's just nothing compared to Aim and Ignite. Aim and Ignite as an album handled things a lot better than Some Nights did, and as such I prefer it, "All The Pretty Girls" being my favorite by them. But, "to each their own". Agro
You must be joking. Some Nights was one of the most emotional albums I've ever heard. I don't think that the hip-hop comes off as silly, it comes off as a simple beat, a lone heart wandering alone. The album's so much more about heartbreak and loneliness than anything with the faint light at the end of the tunnel saying that everything's going to be alright. It isn't lacking emotion in the slightest, it's simply an emotion you did not expect from them. And from what I'm reading, you're basically explaining to me that you don't like them because they sound more mainstream.
Plaguespreader Zombie
My favorite band has had their songs featured in TV shows; mainstream status has nothing to do with whether I like a band or not, sorry though. In fact, I'd almost rather like a mainstream band over an indie band because there would be more people to talk about them with. I listened to Aim and Ignite the most during a rather rough time in my life so it resonates more emotionally with me than Some Nights does, which I first listened to after that time had passed so it didn't hit me as hard as their first album did, so I guess I just didn't feel the emotions they were trying to put across. Again, I don't like when Rock/Pop and Hip-Hop come together. I love both separately, but they're two completely different genres of music. It doesn't work well, it just comes off as forced. Agro
I disagree. In most cases, I think it would. A lot of the songs on today are (take Payphone by Maroon5, the lyrics to the song and the rap from Wiz have nothing in common and while people have been saying that that's what makes it good, it really doesn't. On the other hand, I think that this album pulls it off extremely well. It doesn't feel forced, it's the best use of the hip-hop style that I think I've ever heard. .Rai
best cover ever. I mean it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn3Zkq9PP_Y
Hell yes, I'm liking your style a lot. I'm going to take a weird view on fun. I absolutely adore them personally, and, yes, I prefer Some Nights. Aim and Ignite probably is overall a better quality album, but Some Nights has all sorts of influences that makes it a really unique album. However, my qualms on Some Nights exist on how weird some tracks are. Nate Ruess has an awesome voice, and the amount of autotune on Some Nights is ridiculous. It's supposed to be a stylistic point, but pulls the entire album down. Then you have songs like 'It Gets Better' that are just plain ridiculous. Not to mention the title sounds like it's been crafted to appeal to the entire New York gay hipster scene. To be honest, we can already see from how popular 'We Are Young' was that it appeals to the entire New York hipster scene either way. Overall, I think it's just the second half of the album deteriorates in quality.
Plaguespreader Zombie
Exactly, .Rai. I respect the stylistic changes fun. tried to make in Some Nights, but I feel like those changes brought them down rather than up. Their singer has one of the best voices I've ever heard - and to ruin it on Autotune on even 1 of the tracks was simply a ridiculous choice that didn't help and only hurt. If an artist uses it SPARINGLY, I'm perfectly fine with it. But on 'It Gets Better' they absolutely doused his voice in it. It Gets Better is really my biggest hate for this album, song-wise, because of how god damn ridiculous it is. But, all-in-all, fun. was just trying to do something new and I'm not trying to persecute them over it, I'm just going to always be a bigger fan of Aim and Ignite then I will Some Nights, most likely. EliminateHRN
I recently started listening to Fun. and they have quickly became one of my favorite bands. They are such a unique band and the lead singer (Nate Ruess?) is probably one of the best vocalists in a while. Which is why I have no idea why they autotuned his voice on some of the tracks in Some Nights. But, still, they are one of my favorite bands right now. My favorites from the are "Be Calm", "Walking the Dog", "The Gambler", "Some Nights", "Why Am I the One."
Admiral Tim
They're beginning to become pretty popular. "We are young" is...meh, but Some Nights is a really good song.
Catman25
ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. Besides that, Fun. sucks imo.
RoseSymphony
I'm also one of those people who knew Fun. before they were popular. My friend's friend's sister's husband's brother is Andrew Dost, the pianist. (phew) I never got to meet him, but my friend did. /sofreakingjelly But anyway, I also like Some Nights more than Aim and Ignite. I don't know why, I just feel like Some Nights is more developed as their sophomore album. But yeah. Love Fun. <
