Return of the Orichalcos (Finishing/PG-13/IC)

Recommended Posts

Arta smiled at the boy. He was happy to see Solomon enjoying himself. After the boy's reaction to seeing the Orichalcos card he knew that the boy had joined them for some reason. Clearly that reason was enough to risk his soul. Arta turned back to Star. "Well Star you heard the man." Star smiled and tallied up the total "That will be $12.50."

Arta reached into his pocket and pulled out a fifty. "Sorry, it is the smallest bill I have, can you make change for it?" Star looked a little surprised by this, hadn't the man said that he didn't have much money on him? "Sure I can make change. Oh and here you go." Star handed Arta the food and a cup of black tea. "Thank you Star. To answer your question Solomon, I am not sure, all I know was that I was supposed to go to Duel Arcadia headquarters but that's changed since we have been dueling, now my destination has shifted and is currently moving. My cards keep telling me where my destination is, but to tell me it is moving is just annoying. I am already terrible with directions and now I have to go to a moving target.... great." Arta walked back over to the table, his frustration at his situation was apparent but he relaxed as he sat down.

"It's okay you don't have to pay for the food." He said as he handed Solomon his pie and black tea. "But you can make it up to me by not using your Orichaclos card. Yes, yes I know you have an Orichalcos card. Your reaction to this one told me everything I wanted to know." Arta turned off his duel disk and put away his cards before he sunk his teeth into the hot panini. Arta just sat there eating waiting for Solomon's response.

"A reactor. An Ener-D reactor. Underneath the tower. And just now we left it unguarded." The Egyptian called Protheus Maximus breathed out. "Ringmistress, did Itsu Solace specifically program you to be this stupid? Couldn't you have told us that earlier...?!?!" Angered at this mistake he had made, no, this mistake the artificial-intelligence-robot made by failing to tell him about the reactor, he was almost very much tempted to blast off her head and crush her body. "...we will come back tomorrow. Until then, we will have to prepare at this...workshop place we're heading to. And you people will have to improve your dueling as well."

---------------------

"He is incapable of flight." Archetype Earth told him in a calm, light tone - which seethed in anger. "An ordinary boy. He's outside the tower right now. I will have to question your intelligence later, and no. I will destroy the mech myself. I have been distracted long enough, and a mech sounds like an interesting opponent."

Then she walked out of the tower herself, the same one Yuuta flew out of, and - ignoring him - she flew up high into the air, all the way to the top of the tower. From there, she could see the mech - Exocet - that Castle's forces were failing to defeat. And then she darted towards it. In a fashion not unlike superman, her first move was to shoot green laser beams from her eyes at the mech, before diving down to deliver a powerful kick against it, with enough force to blow off a bunker.

"Draw!" Russell took a look at his hand, now at 4 cards. "Now, I'll Normal Summon "Bull Blader" in Attack Position!" A large, heavily-armored bull-like warrior appeared next to Arturigus, brandishing a large claymore sword with one hand. (1600 ATK)

"Curious! So you've called forth a monster in the image of the bull, your namesake," Gabriel commented, referring to Russell's nickname, "Taurus". "However, I must admit that I'm a bit let down by your monster; indeed, it has a decent amount of power, but not enough to stand up against Lynk's Attack Strength of 1950!"

"True," admitted Russell, "but as I'm sure you yourself know, a monster's true strength does not always reside in its Attack Power. You see, my Bull Blader has a special ability: when it engages in a battle against another monster, neither of us receive any battle damage, and then it can instantly destroy that monster after damage calculation."

After hearing this, Gabriel gave a simple blink, though his mind was thinking, "... f*ck...!" He then spoke up, "Well, then, guess I'll have to spring my Trap Card: "Bravador Interference"!"
Trap/Normal

Activate only during your opponent's turn, while you control a face-up "Masked Bravador" monster. Special Summon 1 Level 6 or lower "Masked Bravador" monster from your hand. This turn, your opponent must target the Special Summoned monster for an attack. During the End Phase; return the monster Special Summoned by this effect to your hand.
"With that, I now Special Summon "Masked Bravador - Joey Cane" in Attack Position!" Gabriel declared, as a kangaroo-masked wrestler bounced into the ring, quarter staff in hand (2400 ATK). Since the move reduced Gabriel's hand to 2 cards, Lynk's Attack Power was now reduced to 1850.

"So, I'm forced to attack your hip-hop hopper, huh?" Russell asked, indifferent to Gabriel's recent move. "Not a problem; Bull Blader will just make quick work of him. But first, I'll play this Spell from my hand: "Stealth Soldier Strike"!"
Normal/Quick-Play

Discard 1 Warrior-Type monster from your hand; send 1 random card from your opponent's hand to the Graveyard.
"So now, all I have to do is discard my Obnoxious Celtic Guard, and your hand loses one more card!" Holding his hand out, pointed, like a gun, Russell took aim at the left-most card in Gabriel's hand, then "fired". The card Russell had aimed at ("Masked Bravador - Leopardo") flew out of Gabriel's hand as if struck by an unseen force. Now, with only one card in his hand, Lynk's ATK was reduced to 1750, enough for Noble Knight Arturigus to deal the death blow once Bull Blader destroyed Joey Cane.

"Now, Bull Blader, attack Joey Cane with Ox Steel Burst!" The Minotaur-shaped Warrior charged forth, thrusting his claymore forward and skewering Joey Cane through the abdomen. However, the kangaroo-masked fighter would not go down alone; he grabbed the bull by the horns and suplexed him head-first into the mat, both monster shattering in their simultaneous defeat.

"And with Joey Cane out of the way, Arturigus can now strike down--wait, what...?!" Russell blurted out as he took a closer look at Gabriel's field; although Joey Cane was no more, his kangaroo mask still remained, floating in place. The crowd was in a state of suspense, while the only words to come out of Russell's mouth next were, "How in the...??"

A soft yet triumphant chuckle escaped Gabriel's lips. "You were right about one thing, Russell; I do know for a fact... that a monster's true strength is not just in its fighting ability. Now, bear witness to the true strength of the Masked Bravadors!" Suddenly, the kangaroo mask, guided by an unseen force, radiated a bright glow as it hovered toward Lynk's outstretched hand. The mask transmogrified instantly into a pair of armbands and a tailed hoodie, with the same design pattern as Joey Cane's mask. Once Lynk donned the new attire, Joey Cane's quarterstaff appeared in his clench (ATK increase: 1750 ---> 2450).
's effect]

EARTH/Lv 6/Warrior/2400 ATK/1800 DEF

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: you can equip this card to 1 "Masked Bravador" monster you control, except "Masked Bravador - Joey Cane" (only 1 "Masked Bravador" can be equipped to each monster), OR Special Summon this card during the End Phase by sending 1 "Masked Bravador" card you control to the Graveyard. A monster equipped with this card gains 700 ATK. If you control the equipped monster and this card: You can send both to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Masked Bravador" monster from your Graveyard.
"You see, Masked Bravadors are not the kind to simply resign to the Grave upon their defeat," Gabriel continued. "They continue to live on through others, passing on their strength to those who will continue their legacy!" The crowd responded to Gabriel's speech with an uproaring chant: "GARVAS! GARVAS! GARVAS!"

Russell couldn't help but to smile a bit, in spite of having his plan to attack Lynk screech to a halt. "Well, I guess that ends my turn, then. Your move, Garvas."

Russell's Stats:
LP: 4000
Hand: 1
Field: 1 Monster (Arturigus), 2 Set S/T (one being Scrap-Iron Scarecrow)

"My pleasure. ¡Ahora!" Gabriel shouted as he drew his next card, bringing his hand to 2. "Russell's Spell Card pulled a double Whammy on me," he thought to himself; "not only did he do it to reduce Lynk's Attack score, it also left me with not enough options... sorry, Joey, but I'm going to have to say "goodbye" for now.

"Trap Card open: "Mask Trade"!" Gabriel declared, revealing his remaining face-down card. "In order to activate this card, I have to send a "Masked Bravador" currently treated as an Equip Card to my Graveyard, meaning that I'll now have to remove Joey Cane's strength from Lynk." With that, the hoodie, armbands and quarterstaff equipped to Lynk disappeared. "However, it's not for nothing; by doing so, I now get to draw two cards from my Deck!" With Gabriel's hand now at 4, Lynk's ATK grew to 2050. Taking another look at his hand, Gabriel's mouth instantly expanded into a giant grin.

"Got what you need, I'm guessing?" Russell asked, having a good idea of what was to happen next.

"Perhaps," Gabriel replied, "but I'm going to hold off on using it for now. In the meantime, I activate "Mask Tailor". With this, I can add 1 "Mask" Spell or Trap Card from my Deck to my hand. This allows me to add to my hand the next card that I shall activate: "Mask of Memento Mori"!" A white, skull-shaped mask appeared on the field. "With this, I can now equip a "Masked Bravador" monster in my Graveyard to a monster on the field!"

"Joey Cane?"

"Actually, no," Gabriel responded to Russell's guess. "I'm about to repay you for that "Stealth Soldier Strike" you activated last turn. I shall now use the power of the Memento Mori to equip Masked Bravador - Lynk with the mask of "Masked Bravador - Leopardo"!"
WIND/Lv 4/Warrior/1200 ATK/950 DEF

While you control another "Masked Bravador" monster; this card can attack your opponent directly. In that case, the Battle Damage this card inflicts to your opponent's Life Points is equal to this card's original ATK. If this monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: you can equip this card to 1 Level 4 or lower "Masked Bravador" monster you control, except "Masked Bravador - Leopardo". (only 1 "Masked Bravador" can be equipped to each monster). A monster equipped with this card can attack twice during each Battle Phase.
The eye sockets of the Mask of Mememnto Mori flashed red before transmogrifying into a leopard mask, which then fused with Lynk's mask.

"Now, Lynk, attack Arturigus with Lynx Lariat!" Once again, Lynk (1950 ATK) charged toward Arturigus (1800 ATK).

"Well, now, look who's made an encore appearance!" Russell declared as he activated Scrap-Iron Scarecrow once more, causing Lynk's Lariat to once again shatter an overglorified piece of modern art. "That's the thing about my Scarecrow: no matter what you throw at it, it'll just keep coming back for more!"

"And yet, it only delays the inevitable!" Gabriel growled out. "Now, Lynk! Strike with Second Leopard Lariat!"

A silhouette of Leopardo briefly appeared, mimicking Lynk's battle pose before reaching out and grabbing Arturigus by the arm, yanking him into the path of Lynk's second charge. This time, Lynk succeeded in striking Arturigus, the force of the attack slamming the Noble Knight into his stone-bound sword, shattering it along with its weilder. The shards of the broken sword flew into Russell, inficting 150 points of damage to his Life Points (LP: 3850).

"I now end my Battle Phase," declared Gabriel, "then I Set one monster in Defense Mode, as well as one other card face-down. That ends my turn."

Yuri Kanzen

"I was prepared to die out there; fighting that demon..." Yuri muttered, having previously been silent for the duration that the Pelican was in the air, before turning wildly to the very man that transport her there with the others, "...and yet you just strip me of any chance I would've had to revenge Itsu's death!"

One could tell by the sound of her voice that she was angry about being denied of the chance to fight Archtype Earth. Perhaps she could've defeated her right there and then. Perhaps she could've destroyed the very essence of the Orichalcus Cult, and perhaps she could've single-handed liberated the world, and be regarded as the true hero. All of this was unlikely, no-one could argue over that. But Yuri still glowered over the fact that she was denied this one chance.

"Am I only unbounded by cowards, here?!" Yuri asked aggressively, meaning to say 'surrounded', by predictably screwing up the pronunciation of the word.

Earthbound Immortal Cuauhcoatl

Going on ahead of Yami Maire, and slithering at a speed that couldn't be matched by human foot, Cuauhcoatl rushed towards the tower, just as the military operation commenced. It just had to see all the souls it managed to sense for itself; it didn't care if anyone saw this big, black, evil rattlesnake darting for some random skyscraper, all that was on its mind was a little something that it happened to call a delicacy... and perhaps a whole truckload of this something.

Eventually, Cuauhcoatl had managed to get close to the tower, and slowed its pace down to sneak behind the majority of Castle's troops, smiling in an evilly pleased manner as it wondered whose soul to drain first. There was no point in fighting the monstrosity before these human troops. Castle may have had an army, but Cuauhcoatl might as well have had the same power level as the mighty Exodia himself. Even if Castle so much as even dared ordered an attack, it could only end one way.

Protheus, fed up with Yuri's constant complainings, walked over to her and did something similar to a karate-chop to her neck, and all of a sudden she found her consciousness slipping.

"This is what would've happened." His voice echoed through her mind, right before she slipped into a vision.

---------------

There she was, back at the tower, armored and ready for anything. That is, until something blew through the floor. A white-cloaked woman with bluish hair and eyes as green as the Orichalcos itself. Obviously, from the pictures earlier displayed, it was easily foreseeable that this woman was none other than Archetype Earth, leader of the cult of Orichalcos. Yuri might've attempted to attack the woman, but her attacks would've just bounced off of the Superman-like being.

Archetype Earth merely glanced at her, deeming her not worth a threat. Then she flicked her fingers for a moment, and a blast of green energy sent Yuri crashing into a wall, ignoring her defenses and her armor, and obliterating the wall behind her. But of course, somehow she herself managed to survive, holding on to the edge. Yuri had been treated like nothing, absolutely nothing, not even capable of delaying her for a few seconds. After that, the godlike woman flew out the newly-created hole, and headed towards the Pelican.

She was forced to watch, powerless, as the most powerful being on the planet grabbed hold of the Pelican as if it were nothing - again, her power was comparable to that of Superman - before spinning it around a bit. Finally, Archetype Earth sent the Pelican flying straight towards her-...and it crashed right into the floor above her, forcing the ceiling visible from her point of view to collapse. With the collapsed floor, it revealed the impact left the dropship in pieces. There was a bloody mess, and some body parts and stripped clothing were slightly recognizable like Idris, Pandora, Kurai....everyone on board had been killed.

Everyone, that is, except Protheus, who staggered out of the rubble with a heavily-damaged body that was midway through regeneration - his insides were visible and his face was that of a pure skull with a glowing light inside of it.

Finally, to finish it all off, Archetype Earth prepared a gigantic Kamehameha, still flying in the air, before sending it right at the Duel Arcadia tower to blow off the entire upper part-

And the last thing Yuri saw was a green glow, before returning back to the Pelican, back to the real world.

Cynthia had stopped crying and was now watching the match. She was really disappointed she liked to watch a good duel as much as the next guy, but really its a bit a anti climatic to have a blood sport end in a duel and a boring one at that.

"God this is boring it's a blood sport the should be beating the living crap out of each other not ending it in a very anti climatic duel, and look at these morons" she said indicating the people around her who were all quite engrossed within the match, " I mean Jesus nothing happened in the first round and in the second all he did was cause 150 points of damage!" Cynthia finished. She looked at the 2 people sitting next to her the woman, who still hadn't introduced herself yet, was staring at the ring probably watching the 2 men more than she was the duel. Lucas he seemed to the same idea she did wtf this is a blood sport end it properly please.

"Lucas honey judging by your expression you, aswell as I, don't seem to be being entertained be this so would you like to make some entertainment, and Lucas that is not a sexual reference so don't even think about it," Cynthia said.

Idris found herself rolling her eyes when Protheus mentioned improving their duelling skills, she was likely the least enthisiastic duellist on the planet and the only reason she even had a deck was just another part of her family traditions, probably the one she found the most annoying. She didn't speak up about this though, she was well aware of the game's true origins and the nature of the threat they where preparing for.

As a way to pass the time she pulled a deck of cards from her jacket pocket, Tarot cards rather than Duel Monster cards, and began flicking through them out of boredom, looking up briefly when Yuri started complaining. She decided to ignore her, there seemed to be little sense in arguing with an Aztec's outdated ethics or morals. She placed the cards on the floor and began mixing them about with her left hand, not entirely sure she wanted to find out what they'd eventually tell her.

"You do have a plan, right?" She asked, more in general "There's only a few of us, a crap load of them and we have barely any firepower. I think we're gonna need a bit more than fancy card game skills to take that reactor back."

****

Syria was watching the duel with an intense interest, she found this game quite interesting and was detirmined to learn all she could about it. She could hear a few other people talking in the distance but was too far away to make out what they where saying, especially among the chatter of the rest of the crowd. She could see that both duellists where a fairly even match for each other, despite a good play of cards by one the other was able to turn it to his advantage and take a slight lead. Syria tilted her head to one side, finding the archetype the masked human was using intruiging, it was vastly different from the cards she used and the variety in this games deck types was something that fascinated her. She wondered if she could get closer to and get a better view, she could see fine from here but the chatter of the crowd was interfiering with the dialogue between the two duellists. She glanced up at the tree she was sitting beneath, wondering if the branches where thick enough to support her, if not she could always still use the anti-gravity circuit in the coat to make herself lighter if she needed to. After a minute of diliberating with herself she got to her feet and with only a few light hopes she reached the highest branch she estimated could support her weight, from here she had a much better view of the duel from slightly above and settled down to watch the rest of the match.

While Yuri was still unconscious, still envisioning the chain of events that might've been, the alternate-universe vision Protheus Maximus gave her to teach her a lesson the quick way, he walked over to Idris.

"Indeed. Thank you for pointing that out, Idris." He told her, and proceeded to explain. "This is my mistake, so I will have to fix it. That's why we will be recruiting more people, duelists brave enough to oppose the cult, and we'll also need someone to get inside first, a spy or traitor if you will. For that purpose., we'll have to somehow capture an Orichalcos cult member. It's dangerous, but what choice do we have?"

Lucas sat and watched the duel take get "epic." Oh gasp one of the cards was once a person and is now some spandex..or something. Sounds some Hispanic Disney foolishness he thought, but then again Lucas was an old man so he was easily irritable. The turn proceeded and masked topless man, because not having a shirt on is important in table top games, proceeded to go through the motions of making another mask..something. Which of course led to something..then led to an attack, of course no threatening trap card of stall was activated, but wait a turn around because this piece of digital spandex says you can attack twice...GASP a whole 150 points of damage was dealt. Lucas stoic face conveyed the blatant sarcastic review of events that was going on in his head. He mentally empathized with the stripper and prostitute sitting next to him...this must be what having relations with all their clients is like. You just have to sit there and take it for betterment of some cause. I pity these two.

Of course like the perpetual on-off switch she is the stripper spoke again...seriously he thought its bipolar menstruation she's mental...why hasn't she gotten me my drink yet? Though he did hear that the stripper resonated with his thoughts of the match...so she can read minds it must be more of feelings thing though. I remember discovering some ruins in Ancient Egypt depicting oracles and such. If she wasn't a mentally fragile stripper she could be useful to our cause...meh maybe not. At this point he hears entertainment...Did she just offer to have public relations with me? Did I bring Viagra? Nope don't think I did. Would I want to anyway? I mean who knows what diseases she may carry. Can tetanus be transferred in that manner? Maybe Carla would know? She had to have started somewhere, can't just go from 0 to full blown prostitute without taking some baby steps. So many questions so little time. Oh she's looking for an answer....

Act....Lucas was interrupted as his eyes since now facing Cynthia manage to catch a glimpse of tree behind her. There is a woman on the tree branch, while foolish hippie-monkey nonsense is usually allowed and tolerated at outdoor events this one was odd. Mainly because he has been looking in that general direction periodically, because the mind-reading stripper keeps talking demanding some form of minimal respect, he would have seen a person climbing a tree especially to get that high. He look visibly puzzled for a second and realized that she must have just jumped up. Well that is worth looking into, but it could be deadly should send someone else to check it out first.

Hey, young one (forgot her name already), do you know who that is? He pointed to the girl in the tree.

"No," said Cynthia noticing the girl in the tree behind her.

"Wow she could probably get..." Cynthia felt a sharp stab in her back. She reached into her pocket to pull out the "Seal of Orichalcos" which was pulsating and seemed to be pulling her in the diraction of the girl. Cynthia then remebered Lucas who which she had been talking to.

"I'm sure this doesn't matter to you Lucas, but she's a member and a powerful one at that," Cynthia said finally answering him.

"Scrach that not just powerful really powerful," feeling the tugging of the card getting harder.

Yuri slowly stirred back into consciousness. She had completely disregarded the vision that was being forged into her, refusing to believe such a drastic thing would happen to everyone on board the Pelican just because of her. She also refused to believe she'd go down that easily, but most of all, she refused to believe that Itsu couldn't be avenged. This major sense of denial had pushed back the vision for the most part, but pieces of it remained planted in Yuri's memories; particularly the part where she was ambushed by Archtype Earth, and the part where Yuri was inevitably defeated, and Archtype reached for the Pelican. The rest of the vision was warped completely. But Yuri had too large a splitting headache, and she had too little time to recover from her unconsciousness and make sense of the warped vision.

'What the hell did that bastard do to me?' Yuri questioned in thought, 'Uh... on second thought... I don't want to know...'

It would clearly take a while to get over this headache. In the meantime, Yuri figured the more intelligent thing to do would be to shut up and listen to what was going on around her. She rubbed the back of her neck, only to find that was sore too, seeming to indicate that a blow was struck on her that she never saw coming.

Lucas gave her a blank look as to say "Why are you still here then?" clearly he waved his hand to suggest talking to the tree jumper. The duel was distracting enough so that no one would notice any conversation between the stripper and a tree. He noticed how the stripper doesn't move...his face sinks. Look you go talk the tree lady that way it passersby will not think I am about to do nasty things with you. Clearly the lack of alcohol has let loose the more depraved thoughts in his mind though his was bored and saw the girl in front of him as another rebellious youth who did not warrant any respect. First impressions do that to you. He waited as her Orichalcos card kept tugging her in the direction of the all powerful...woman? He proceeded to get up and make his way to the car to grab something for this new person to probably sit on. Hopefully they weren't as unseemly as his last two party crashers. He didn't really think about leaving Carla alone with the things mainly because well prostitutes did not seem like the stealing type.

While he was walking to the car he wondered why doesn't his cultist field spell card act like Cynthia's. He pulled it out from his inner suit pocket and proceeded to look at both sides of it. It was glowing slightly because of the duel between two strong souls but it never went off in front of another cultist member before. Hmmm maybe the card is reflexive of our wants. I just want to find souls for the reaping so it shows me souls worth reaping, the stripper clearly wants friends just doesn't know how to ask, and it shows her other cultist. Intriguing I really have to get my hands on one of those pendants. The questions you could solve or even better the new questions it would generate. Lucas was happy that he was reminded of his goal. He saw he had two more spare chair set-ups in the trunk and he wondered why? Oh right he had to go to a family reunion...ugh so many grandnieces and nephews. All playing duel monsters no less. When they grow-up fat and diabetic it will be no ones fault but their parents.

Cynthia frowned what the hell was that old man doing.

"Whatever" Cynthia muttered to herself. She proceeded to walk over to the tree to look at the seemily very powerful tree girl. Slipping the Seal into her back pocket Cynthia proceeded to the tree and when she reached the baseof it began to climb up.

"More difficult than I thought," Cynthia grunted as she made her way up the tree. Finally reaching the top she noticed that the girl seemed very ingrossed in the mmatch.

"Hello I'm Cynthia I'm sitting down there would you like to join us,"Cynthia said to the girl pointing to where they were sitting which was unnessary as the girl was still turned around.

Idris looked up at Protheus as he walked over to her to explain his plan, momentarily ignoring the pile of cards in front of her.

"That...Does actually sound like a good plan," She replied "How're we going to tell the difference between a regular duellist and a cultist though? Suppose they try and get one of them to spy on us?"

Absently she took one of the cards off the top of the pile and glanced at it, noticing it was the Emperor card. She briefly glanced at Protheus, wondering if the card was responding in reference to him before collecting her cards up again and straightening them back into a deck.

****

While Syria was focusing on the duel she heard a noise beneath her and looked down briefly to see another girl climbing up the tree. She followed the girl's progress until she reached the branch Syria herself was sitting on, not making any move to help her. She continued to watch calmly as the girl introduced herself and pointed below her to her where she and her companions where sitting, Syria glanced down briefly at the area she indicated.

"There is a better view from up here," She explained calmly "And my observations do not require company, however I do not reject your presence."

She turned her attention back to the duel.

"This is an...Interesting game," she pondered aloud "I find it fascinating how such a simple pass time has become so ingrained into this society's culture."

"Hmm your not from around here are you," Cynthia said. There was an oddity about the the girl that Cynthia noticed, but she couldn't quite place it. She was strange that was for sure. The way she talked the way she refered to dueling all of it was so strange everything about the girl was strange. Cynthia then remembered the reason she came up here.

"Do you own one of these?" Cynthia asked pushing her "Seal of Orichalcos" in from her pocket and sliding it in front of the girl.

Carla was so wrapped up in the duel, she barely noticed that Lucas and Cynthia had gotten up and gone off somewhere. Looking around, she had noticed that Lucas had gone off in the direction of the parked vehicles. "Getting an adult diaper, maybe?" Carla thought with a smirk, then turned to see that Cynthia had gone over to the tree behind her, talking to a girl wearing the freakiest circus get-up she had ever seen. "Great, so now she's gone talking to tree folk," Carla thought to herself. "Sheesh, this cult has the most bizarre characters, I swear...."

"Okay, so you managed to do some minor chip damage," Russell said as he drew his next card, barely phased by Lynk's attack. "Still, I can't let you get away with that. I Normal Summon "Jain, Lightsworn Paladin"!" A white-armored knight of ambiguous gender appeared in a flash of light, her(?) shield and sword ready (1800 ATK).

"And Russell makes a move out of left field," Vivian said over the loudspeaker.

"I must commend Lynk for surviving for so long," Russell added, "but now the time for his curtain call! Jain, power your sword with Sun's Grace and strike Lynk down!" Jain's sword shone with a blinding light (ATK Boost: 1800 ---> 2100) as she(?) charged toward Lynk (1750 ATK).

"I'm afraid Lynk will be around for much longer than that, my friend," Gabriel declared as he activated his Trap Card: "Bravador Tag Reversal". "With "Bravador Tag Reversal", if a monster I control that's equipped with a "Masked Bravador" monster is attacked, I can negate that attack, then I Special Summon the mask equipped to my monster!"

Once more, the silhouette of Leopardo appeared, blocking Jain's sword strike and forcing her back. Leopardo's shadow then regained physical form as the Leopard Mask separated from Lynk's.

"Dammit, now he's got two monsters," Russell thought as he gritted his teeth. He then double-checked Gabriel's field. "Crap, I forgot his face-down monster, too. Now I'm in trouble." He then took a look at his own field, his grimace turning into a smirk as he remembered his own face-down. "Activating Trap Card: "Fair Battleground"!"
Trap/Normal

If you control a face-up Warrior-Type monster while your opponent controls at least 2 more monsters than you: pay 1000 Life Points; Special Summon any number of Level 4 or lower Warrior-Type monsters from your Graveyard until you and your opponent control the same number of monsters. During the End Phase of this turn; return any monster Special Summoned by this effect to your Deck.
"With this, I now Special Summon "Noble Knight Arturigus" (1800 ATK) and "Obnoxious Celtic Guard" (1400 ATK) from my Graveyard! And, since this is still my Battle Phase, I can now attack with both of them! Celtic Guard, strike down Leopardo (1200 ATK)!" The Elven Swordsman destroyed Leopardo with one swing of his sword, reducing the Masked Bravador to his mask once more. (Gabriel LP: 3800) "Regardless of whether you equip Lynk with Leopardo's mask again, it won't protect him from Arturigus' attack! Divine Blade!" Effortlessly, Arturigus tugged the sword out from the ground, then struck down Lynk with a white shockwave that torn along the ground (Gabriel LP: 3750).

"My turn is still not done yet," Russell continued as he exited his Battle Phase. "I now send Arturigus and Celtic Guard to the Overlay Network!" Suddenly, Arturigus and Celtic Guard were reduced to small orbs of light, which then began to circle each other rapidly around a swirling vortex. "Now, come forth from the Duel Terminal: "Gem Knight Pearl"!" Out of the vortex arrived a white humanoid figure, surrounded by seven large orbs (2600 ATK). "Now, with my End Phase, Jain's second effect activates, forcing me to send the top two cards of my Deck to the Graveyard." With that, Russell milled "Heroic Challenger Extra Sword" and "Command Knight" to the Grave. "Your turn, Garvas."

"I was foolish," Gabriel thought as he drew his next card, bringing his hand to 2 once again. "Now, I summon "Masked Bravador - Palkon" in Attack Position!"
WIND/Lv 4/Warrior/1700 ATK/1000 DEF

When this card is Summoned; add 1 "Masked Bravador" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only summon 1 "Masked Bravador - Palkon" each turn. If this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: you can equip this card to 1 "Masked Bravador" monster you control, except "Masked Bravador - Palkon". (only 1 "Masked Bravador" can be equipped to each monster). During your Main Phase, while this card is treated as an Equip Card: You can send this card to the Graveyard and target 1 card on the field; return that target to its owner's Main Deck. This effect cannot be activated during the turn this card was equipped to a monster.
"With Palkon's effect, I now add "Masked Bravador - Sireen" to my hand."
WATER/Lv 4/Warrior/1700 ATK/1400 DEF

At the start of each of your opponent's Battle Phases: you can target 1 monster they control; that target cannot declare an attack this turn. If this monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: you can equip this card to 1 "Masked Bravador" monster you control, except "Masked Bravador - Sireen". (only 1 "Masked Bravador" can be equipped to each monster). When a monster equipped with this card, or has this card attached to it as an Xyz Material declares an attack; you opponent cannot activate card effects until the end of the Damage Step.

"Next, I Flip Summon "Masked Bravador - Raynos" (Lv 4, 1450 ATK), then send him and Palkon to the Overlay Network, in order to Xyz Summon "Hyper Masked Bravador - Groove Rex"!" This time, an Xyz Monster appeared on Gabriel's side of the field, a rather heavy-set yet powerful looking wrestler with a dinosaur motif (2350 ATK). "I'm aware of what you're thinking: "Groove Rex hasn't enough pwer to stand up against Pearl". Well, then, the next card I'm about to play is going to change all of that." With dramatic flourish, Gabriel performed his next play: "I now activate the Field Spell Card, "Hallowed Arena of Lucha Libre"!!"

As soon as Gabriel's Field Spell was activated, the appearance of the surroundings changed drastically: the entire park now appeared to be surrounded by a grand colloseum/cathedral, the sky visible through the open top while numerous stained-glass windows adorned the walls. The ring itself even received a holy-like appearance.

"Man, I love this card...," Russell thought to himself as he looked around.

"Now, by the power of the Arena," Gabriel explained, "all "Masked Bravador" monsters on the field gain an additional 400 ATK, meaning that Groove Rex is now at 2750 ATK! But there is more! Once per turn, if I control 1 or less "Masked Bravador" monsters, I can Special Summon a Level 6 or lower "Masked Bravador" from my hand or Spell & Trap Card Zone. So with that, I Special Summon "Masked Bravador - Sireen" to the field!" A vuloptuous, masked female wrestler with wavy, raven hair appeared next to Groove Rex (ATK Boost: 1700 ---> 2100).

"Now, I activate Groove Rex's Xyz Ability: by detaching an Xyz Material from him, I can change the Battle Position of your Gem-Knight Pearl, and then inflict 1000 points of damage to your Life Points, but this will also prevent Groove Rex from attacking this turn." One of Groove Rex's Overlay Units was promptly absorbed into his dinosaur-like mask, causing his eyes to flash red. He then performed a disco dance (why else do you think he's called "Groove Rex"?) before slamming his foot into the ground, sending a tremor that knocked Gem Knight Pearl off-balance and into Defense Position (1900 DEF) before continuing to Russell's feet, at which point the tremor erupted, knocking Russell off of his feet and bringing his Life Points down to 2850. "In the meantime, I'll now attack Jain with Sireen!" In the blink of an eye, Sireen appeared right before Jain (1800 ATK), startling the Lightsworn. Sireen gave a sweet smile... before unleashing a blood-curdling screech right in Jain's face! Comically, it appeared that Jain's soul, in chibi form, flew right out of her(?) body and ascended into the heavens, leaving her empty shell to crumple to the floor before shattering. (Russell LP: 2550).

"I shall now end my turn, so try and keep up, Russell."

Taking a quick look around at the cheering audience, Gabriel caught a glimpse at the tree, still visible even with the Augmented Reality apparition of the Arena having changed the rest of the park's appearance. A familiar, brightly clothed young girl could be seen sitting in the branches of the tree. "Syria...?" Gabriel thought to himself.

"I draw!" Russell continued, unaware of Gabriel's shift in attention. "First, I'll switch Gem-Knight Pearl back to Attack position (2600 ATK). Then, I'll activate "Overlay Reincarnation" from my hand!"
Spell/Normal

Detach 1 Xyz Material from an Xyz Monster you control, and Special Summon that Xyz Material in face-up Defense Position. It cannot be used as an Xyz Material this turn.
"Now, I detach Obnoxious Celtic Guard from Pearl and Special Summon him back to my field in Defense Mode! (1200 DEF) Next, I'll enter my Battle Phase and--"

"Sireen, activate your effect now!" Gabriel interrupted, his attention once again back on the match. Sireen once again vanished, only to reappear next to Gem Knight Pearl, leaning over to where his ear would be, then unleashing yet another horrific scream. Pearl immediately covered his ears(?), but the damage had already been done; dazed, Pearl fell down to one knee. "At the start of each of my opponent's Battle Phases, I can have Sireen render one of my opponent's monsters incapable of hearing your commands, therefore, you cannot order Pearl to attack this turn."

"Damn," Russell grunted under his breath, briefly taking a look at his hand. "... I end my turn," he said with a resigned tone.

All of a sudden, Archetype Earth snapped.

It wasn't anything in particular. It's just that she got tired of playing games. It's just that she got tired of resistance. It's just that these stupid puny people just didn't understand how powerful the cult of Orichalcos, or rather how powerful she herself could be. It's just that the people of Detroit needed to be taught a lesson. That boy from earlier...he had absolutely no idea what he had been in for, and probably still doesn't. They had to know. They had to fear.

She walked over to the Ener-D reactor beneath the Duel Arcadia Tower, and laid her hand against it. It was a powerful and stable reactor, courtesy of the late Itsu Solace. Whose soul she took. Ha ha. In any case, Ener-D is an unstable energy, having twice formed Zero Reverses, destroying entire cities and perhaps even worlds in the process. The reactor is careful to control that energy. Archetype Earth at first, when Castle revealed such a thing in his works, could never quite figure out what she would do with all this unstable energy.

But right now, as she stood by it, she realized.

The reactor was a weapon.

Slowly, Archetype Earth let a small percentage of Ener-D within the reactor flow into her, temporarily mixing with her powers of the world and of Faust, before expelling it. Telekinesis wasn't her forte, but with this boost...for a small amount of time, she could move with tectonic plates with her bare mind.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somewhere around 10 to 11 PM

All around Detroit, the earth started shaking. Actually, it began quite violently, and quite suddenly, without any warning. It had a high magnitude, and with it, a population of over 700,000 began to panic. Cars were thrown about. Gigantic cracks appeared in the ground, sometimes under housings and causing them to collapse without warning. Even a mall somewhere collapsed.

Those onboard the Pelican were forced to watch, mortified, as the city below was ravaged by powerful quakes. And that wasn't all, as the appearing cracks with their size, suddenly made sense to those not yet dead. They weren't random quakes, that earthquake hadn't been natural. No, as the word 'ORICHALCOS' had been written all over Detroit via cracks... So the people knew without a doubt that this was the result of the cult, the one they had at first thought to be disturbing but defeatable.

Now, they weren't so sure.

When it was over, Detroit was left in ruins, appearing like an apocalyptic site.

Arta was just finishing his panini and watching Solomon. He was hoping the boy would give the right answer and give up on this foolish adventure with the Orichalcos cult, but he could not be sure. People were just like the wind, could change their minds one minute and the next go back to their original ideas. Just then an earthquake started.

"What the hell!? An earthquake? But that should not be possible, this area is nowhere near any tectonic fault zones... unless..." Arta turned around and looked at the Orichalcos card sitting on the table. It was glowing like a light bulb getting too much power. "In the name of all things beautiful, Solomon get under the table! Star find a safe place away from sharp objects or glass!" Just as Arta finished speaking the glass in the window shattered and flew in every direction. Solomon had fortuenately gotten under the table but Arta and Star were not so lucky.

Arta got sliced up as the glass flew inward, he was injured and bleeding but not even close to dead. Star however never had a chance, a knife bounced off the cooking table and caught her right in the head. She was dead before she hit the ground. Bleeding and in pain Arta collapsed under the table and was lying next to Solomon. "Don't worry about me I will be fine just stay under here until the earthquake ends." Arta was doing his best to comfort Solomon, he could see the fear growing on his face. He would never admit it but it was terrifying to him as well. To see the power that the Orichalcos possessed was terrifying in of it self but to know that someone was controlling all that power. "No one, not even a god should possess so much power." Arta whispered to himself.

"No, I am not from here," she replied without turning around "But I'm afraid my memories are...corrupted, I cannot remember where I am from, only my purpose."

Syria slowly turned her head when the girl pulled out a Seal of Orichalcos card, staring at the card for a moment or two before nodding slowly. Reaching into her longcoat to pull out her own copy of the card for confirmation. Just as she put the card back she felt a slight rise of energy in the distance, one she didn't recognize. It took her a moment or two to notice that the energy was building and just as suddenly the earth began to shake. Syria lost her balance on the branch and fell to the ground below, taken by surprise and unable to activate the anti-gravity field in her coat before she hit the ground below, thankfully it was soft earth that met her and not hard concrete but it was still a hard fall.

Syria got to her feet as soon as she could, a golden glow surrounding her as her anti-gravity field activated and she began to float off the ground. She observed the crowd in the park beginning to panic as the quake ripped through the area, throwing people off balance and even toppling some of the trees.

****

Idris heard the earthquake below them and quickly scrambled to the nearest window to observe the destruction, her dark skin growing slightly pale as she watched the ground below them tear itself apart.

"Oh s***, grandad!" She cried in horror, trying to make out the building they had been staying in amongst the debris.

She froze as she saw the words engrave themselves across the city below them and suddenly felt significantly smaller as she slumped down onto the floor, a look of shock frozen on her face.

"Aaahhhh!" Cynthia screamed as the earthquake began. Before she could get fall though she grabbed the branch only seconds later for it crack and send her plummitting to the ground.

"Oooff," the sound escaped Cynthia who hit the ground hard and hit her head, after which the branch landed on her stomach. Sliding out from under the branch Cynthia collected her Orichacos card and proceeded to head on the ruined streets of Detroit to find shelter.

Gabriel heaved a slight sigh as he was preparing for his next turn, when he felt a shudder from the ground, stopping him in his tracks. He looked around, first at the audience that was now confused and clamoring among themselves, then to the McKowens and the other wrestlers watching at ringside, then finally straight ahead at Russell, his face expressing the same thought going through Gabriel's head: "What the hell is going on...?" He almost didn't notice that the holographic projection of the "Hallowed Arena of Lucha Libre" had suddenly vanished.

Carla herself was also rather confused, wondering if it was the start of an earthquake. "... but wait," she thought, "we're in Michigan... there can't possibly be an earthquake here."

Sadly mistaken. Suddenly, the ground began to shake violently, surrounding buildings breaking down, car alarms going off as vehicles were being tossed. Pandemonium was beginning to break loose along with the very earth at the feet of everyone scrambling for safety, shelter, anything to get away from the danger.

Urgency taking hold of her, Carla began to make a dash for higher ground (an impressive feat while wearing high-heeled boots). In the confusion of the scrambling audience, however, Carla found herself 15 seconds later right back at the same tree she had been sitting in front of. She was almost struck by Cynthia and the "tree folk" who had fallen out of the tree.

Meanwhile, the ground underneath the ring gave way, collapsing into a sink hole.

"RUSSELL!!!" Gabriel shouted, running toward his friend, his hand reaching out just as the ring fell down, with the two of them still on it.

"GABE!! RUSS!!" CJ Brat shouted, having witnessed the ring fall, but unable to reach them as the ground continued to break up around the park, the mass confusion of the crowd further blocking any attempt that the other DWF wrestlers had at seeing if Gabriel and Russell were still alive, much less rescue them....

Kurai seemed to wake up from a daze something had gone on in another world and his mind seemed to have drifted there in order to examine the situation and left his body on a kind of auto pilot which was annoying but it had happened automatically and he had just come back. "Wait what just happened, it feels like someone foolishly left an Ener-D reactor where bad guys could get it and then some bad guy used it to cause some tectonic event of terrible proportion."

Albtrum had been so preoccupied by other events that he had kinda forgotten about Atsuko and her group but eventually he remembered and appeared before them.
Sorry about that I was out of it for a bit son now where was I oh ya Alexander you have betrayed us so I'm going to duel little Atsuko and then we'll see what happens so Atsuko you get to go first and we can get this going.

"This is all the fault of the Ringmistress." Protheus stated as matter-of-fact, staring down at the artificial earthquake Archetype Earth had created, no doubt with aid from the Ener-D reactor, as even archetype powers weren't capable of such a large-scale event. If the Ringmistress had just told them about the reactor, then none of this, absolutely none of this would have happened. "In any case, it appears as though Archetype Earth is just causing random destruction. No doubt she isn't distinguishing between friend or foe. Therefore, we should be able to capture any member injured in the event..."

He then turned to whoever was piloting this dropship.

"Once the earthquake ends, we are to stop by on the streets first before reaching our destination, understood?"

Cynthia had her hand to her head where she started bleeding, and then most attractively she threw up on the pavement. In the fall the tree had hit something in her leg which had caused a limp. Cynthia continued her stagger done the drive people ran with a panic all around her trying to get away. Cynthia was struggling to keep her cool as well. She then remembered Lucas and the odd girl at the park. Cynthia turned around to see if she could get back to them, but instead collapsed on the pavement struggling to keep concsious and began to drag herself away from the park she couldn't be of any help to them not in the state she was in.
