Lightpulsar123
Prologue The dragon hunters crawled silently up the cliff. A spellcaster was with them. The cry of the babies inside of the cave echoed out into their ears. The mother dragons went on a group hunt to get more food. The hunters waited for the dragons to leave. When they took off, the hunters crept into the cave. With one slash of the sword, the crying was silenced.“Hey, how many did you get, Gertrude?” asked one of the hunters. “Without my hand being bitten off? Got 2 Rubies and an Emerald. What about you?” asked Gertrude. “I’ve gotten 2, an Amethyst and a Moldavite.” Shean replied. “Hey, Robert, how many?” they both asked. “Um, got a Morganite, a Amazonite and an Ametrine over here. Though, the Ametrine almost got my fingers!” Robert said. “You’d better be careful with those dragons. They are young, but have sharp teeth.” said Shean “Yeah, I agree.”“Hey, Isram, use that magic of yours and cover us so we can escape.” yelled Gertrude. The spell caster got to his feet and yelled “cliusdifao!” The hunters and the spell caster vanished into thin air. The only sound left was the angry roars of the mothers returning from their hunt. Chapter 1 The morning sun rose. Drago woke up with the sun in his face. His village hardly got any food now. He did usual morning routine. He strapped on his bow and went outside. “See you Grandma.” He called into the house. Drago is a 12 year old kid. His grandmother’s name is Selena Ryuu. Drago’s parents had died from a disease and now he is left with his grandmother. The king of the lands was King Faportiva. He was an awful king. He murdered his brothers and his father just to get to the throne. Wars happened everywhere since he became king. The soldiers were posted everywhere and they took all of the food. It was hard to find food.As he walked into the woods, he almost immediately saw a deer grazing not far off. He was lucky. No one could find any more animals to hunt these days. Drago crept closer and closer, one foot after the next. He accidentally stepped on a stick. CRACK. The deer lifted its head and leaped away. He cursed himself for being so clumsy. He chased after the deer and slid into a ditch. His hand gripped onto a rock. He tried to get back up the hill but was stuck. The soil rained into the ditch as he tried to get out. Drago looked at his hand to see what was in it. A gem, an aquamarine gem, the size of a chicken’s egg, laid on his hand. “Wow, I can’t believe my luck. A gem and I picked it up from nowhere.” He murmured to himself. Drago tucked the egg into a piece of cloth and shoved it into his pocket. After struggling to get a foothold, Drago managed to get out. He laid on his back to catch his breath. Drago managed to find some berries to bring home to make up for the loss of the deer. He ran home and got inside the house he yelled, “Grandmother, Grandmother, guess what I found in the woods today!” “What is it now? Is it some meat?” she asked. “Look!” he eagerly showed her the gem he found. She took the stone and looked at it closely. One look, “NO! It can’t be!” she screamed. “What’s wrong grandmother?” he asked. “Where did you find this?” she asked breathlessly. “I…I found it in a ditch I fell into. I j…just grabbed it and took it back with me.” he stammered.A group of soldiers pounded on the door outside. “Open up, or we’ll break it down!” “Who and what army!” Ryuu snarled. Out through the cracks in the door, Drago to see the soldiers flinch. He chuckled quietly to himself. She quickly turned to Drago. “Listen to me; take this stone and some food. Then, go through the basement and escape outside. Go to the city of Zulay, a guard will question you. Say that you are a grandson of Ryuu. They will let you in.“The soldiers, again, pounded in the door “Open the door now or else!” “Or else what!” she snapped back.Drago turned and ran to get a bag of food and supplies. He took the gem, lifted the door and slid right down. He heard his grandmother open the door. “Why, hello, what brings you here?” she asked. “We had a report of a child holding a wrapped stone in his hand. May we see the stone?” one soldier asked. “I’m sorry, the child that you saw left a while ago.” said Ryuu. “We will have to search your house.” said another. Drago was alarmed and was just about to leave when- Ryuu cut in abruptly “No. I cannot allow that.” “Then we’ll check your house by force.” A dull thud came after a sound of metal scraping against metal. Drago realized that one of the soldiers just hit his grandmother. A smoldering rage burned in his stomach. The smolder quickly turned into fire. Drago leapt out of the basement door and yelled. A blue aura seemed to encase Drago. “No one does that to my Grandmother.” he growled. His hair and eyes turned to a watery blueThe soldiers jumped back in fear. Drago’s cape had started to glow. The black cloth around him shimmered and the light receded to show that a symbol appeared on the cape. Wait, no, a picture of a dragon. The Aquos dragon. It’s known to be the most powerful and biggest of all the dragons. Drago didn’t stop to admire his new cape. All he wanted was to destroy the soldiers. He held his hand out and yelled; “abridishca” a brilliant blue light encased the whole room. When the light faded, Drago’s hair and eyes were back to its original color. The soldiers had vanished and he knelt next to his grandmother. “Are you okay?” he asked. “I…I think it’s time for me to go. Drago, go to Zulay. It’s the only place safe for you now. Go to Zulay….” Her voice faded to a whisper and her head dropped back. Ryuu was dead.Drago wanted to stay and cry with grief but, he knew he had to go now, before anyone wonders where the soldiers disappeared to. He grabbed his bag and the stone he found. He was about to exit the door. Chapter 2 A shadow suddenly leaped and landed in front of Drago. “Hey,boy, follow me.” The stranger said, and ran into the forest. Well, I have no idea where Zulay is so, why not? Drago followed the stranger into the forest. The stranger stopped at a mouth of a cave and went inside. Drago followed. Inside had a small fire. Drago laid his bag down and joined the stranger at the fire. The stranger removed the cloak that was covering him. He had dark brown eyes and dirty blond hair. His face was muscular and pointed on the chin. Three scars ran parallel down his cheek.“Hey, who are you?” The stranger asked. “What? You’re the one who told me to follow you!” Drago yelled. “Oh, did I? Hmph, whatever. So what’s your name lad?” “Drago Ryuu.” “Call me, Larson. You have your pack with you, so, where you going?” Larson asked. “My grandmother told me to go to Zulay” said Drago, “but, I don’t know where it is.” “Ah, Zulay, I love that place. Anyway, I can take you there myself. I know where it is.” “Really? I don’t want to be a bother to you or anything, Larson.” Protested Drago. “It’s fine.” Replied Larson. The two slept at the cave for a day and started to walk on the road. They started a conversation of what they would see in Zulay. After a week’s worth of traveling, the aquamarine stone started to shake. After a few minutes, the stone stared to glow and grow in size. “Wh-What’s happening?” Drago stuttered. “Oh, that’s dragon egg. When did you get that?” said Larson. “I found it in the forest.” “Well, put it down on the rock.” he pointed to a flat stone.Drago ran to the stone and set the egg down gently. He stepped back and watched as a large crack ran down the side of the egg. The scrabbling stopped. “Meep?” a tiny squeak came out of the egg. A ferocious scrabbling sounded and a tiny dragon tumbled out of the egg.It took off and soared into the clouds. Flashes of light appeared towards the clouds. A gust of wind buffeted Drago, almost knocking him off his feet. When he looked up, an enormous shadow enveloped him. An enormous dragon with scales of a deep ocean blue, spikes ran down its neck and with teeth longer than his body stood before him. An aquamarine dragon.Drago reached out to touch the chest of the beast, at contact, a huge spasm pain shot up his arm. He blacked out. When he woke up, a silver-blue line jagged down on the right of his face. And another line went right below his right eye. He looked at his reflection with shock. It spoke in his mind, Hello, rider. Who are you? Drago jumped back in surprise. “M-My name is Drago.”And my name is Waterfang. Nice to meet you. “This is not good. We are a two-month journey away from Zulay. And a dragon this big will be easy to spot.” interrupted Larson. I can fly and stay out of sight. suggested Waterfang.“Well, if we want to get to Zulay faster, we should get horses in the next town, Chirio. After a few days travel, a towering gate blocked their way into the city. I’ll go somewhere else and wait for your return. Waterfang flew to the side of a nearby plateau. “On top of that, the water dragon marks on your face. Cover your face with the hood of your cloak.” Said Larson. Drago did as he was told. “When we get to the gate, I’m Fred and you’re my son Bob. Okay?” Wow, real original, thought Drago. But, he didn’t complain. Chapter 3“Halt!” a voice sounded above them. A soldier ran up to them “Who are you and what business do you have in Chirio?” he said as he drew his sword. “I’m Fred and this is my son Bob. We wanted to get horses from a breeder I know here,” Larson replied smoothly, “We are trying to get to a city really far from here.” “Which city?” asked the soldier. “Um, the city of Boswell.” “Very well, you may pass.” The solider let them pass. The gates opened and revealed a bustling crowd. Horse carts and merchants were selling goods. There were children running around playing happily with a ball. Dogs were barking and birds were singing. An ordinary village, yeah. thought Drago. But he could sense hostility in the air. He wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. As they entered Chirio, Larson led them to a door. He knocked on the door. It opened up showing a guy. “Hey, Larson, nice to see you again.” The guy stepped up and gave a big hug. “Stephen, you’ve gotten bigger the last time I saw you!” replied Larson. “This is Drago.” He motioned towards Drago. “Please, come in.” as they entered the house. “Come stay for the night. I’ll give you the horses and we may leave.” Said Stephen. The next day Stephen and Larson went out to catch up on old times. Drago wanted to explore the village. “Don’t give you’re true identity to anyone.” warned Larson as he left. Drago went into shops and was astounded by the unique antiques there. He especially liked the statue of an Ametrine. The wings glittered and the eyes of the statue made it look like the dragon would come to life any second.“Aye, lad, you like that statue?” the shop’s owner walked up behind him. “Yes, the craftsmanship is astounding!” Drago nodded. As he was nodding, his cloak that covered his face fell off. The owner stared at his face then the wanted poster then at his face then the wanted poster. Then he realized “AHHH! It’s you!” he yelled. Drago quickly put the statue back on the shelf and ran out of the shop and back into the house.Stephen and Larson came back and retired for the night. Drago hide his face and tried to sleep. When they woke up, they heard yelling outside of the house. Drago peaked through the cracks on the wall of the house. Two soldiers were yelling at Stephen. “Let us in! We have orders from the king to search for a boy with the water dragon’s markings on his face.” the soldiers grabbed the front of his shirt and lifted him off the ground. “I don’t have anyone in my house.” He growled. “Larson, wake up. Come on, you have to wake up now!” Drago kept shaking Larson as hard as he could. “W-w-wha?”Larson stretched and yawned. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “The soldiers, the soldiers they’re here! We have to get out of here!” Drago stuttered. Larson scrambled out of bed and grabbed his bag. “We have to get out of the house. Get through the back door with the horses and remember to cover your face with your cloak. Once they reached the back gate of Chirio, a soldier blocked their way out of the city. “I cannot let you go through. I must see your face.” Drago trembled with fear and his mind was spinning for ideas. So, he stalled for a while. “You know, you must be a great soldier to be able to serve the king.” “Yeah, I guess I am.” The soldier scratched behind his head and was blushing while Larson snuck up behind the soldier. He hit him on the head and knocked him out. “Let’s go now!” They both jumped into the horses and with a quick command, they raced out of city. Waterfang joined up with them on the road as they were leaving. What happened in there to make you leave in such a rush? asked Waterfang. “Well, the soldiers found us and, obviously, we had to get out.” replied Drago. “Hey, let’s stop here.” said Larson, “I think we’re far enough to camp for the night.” Drago looked at the setting sun. “Okay.” Waterfang landed in a crowd of trees not too far off from the camp site. Drago thought that he wanted to keep a watchful eye on them. After they had fallen asleep, a glint of a red eye sparkled from the bushes. A rustle came and the shadow disappeared. Drago woke and saw Larson still huddled in his blanket. Hmmm, well, might as well let him sleep in. That day yesterday was exhausting. thought Drago. He failed to see what was behind him.
