Pitching an idea to Square Enix

Recently, I saw an article on the possibility of an FF7 remake, and how it isn't happening because no other game has topped 7 in sales and whatnot. Now, remakes of anything are fairly common, especially in Hollywood. To me, a remake is a sign of laziness and lack of creativity. Even if they decided to go through with a remake, what exactly can you change in FF7 besides updating the graphics, making the boring cutscenes even longer and more boring, and adding secret bosses/items? Let's look at FF1's remake. Here's they added the feature of letting you unlearn spells. Improvement. FF2's remake? Still glitchy as heck. FF3's remake? They turned the Onion Knights into actual characters and dropped the crappy capacity point system. FF4's remake? Added the Augment system, and made Cecil's Dark Wave less awesome. Now, to a possible FF7 remake. First, why did people buy FF7 in the first place? The graphics. If you strip away the crappy 3D graphics, it's just like FF4-6. Same old ATB system. Variation of the FF5-6 learning systems. Fleshed-out Limit Breaks from FF6. What can FF7 remake update from FF7? Graphics. Of course, there could be minor tweaks here and there, but FF7's main impact on the series was purely the graphics. One could argue that they went flesh out the story and characters, but a likely $60 isn't worth it on a game that's main updates are story and graphics, two things that are irrelevant to something that is supposed to involve a lot of interaction and not just watched.

Now, I am avid fan of the Final Fantasy Tactics series. Tactics is an excellent game because it values gameplay and strategy over superficial graphics and excessive story. The original Tactics, while having a complex story about a nobleman fighting a corrupt church and the best friend who manipulates a fake princess for power, never made you forget you were playing a game, and each cutscene was just long enough to tell you what matters, then move on. Ramza may not be you, but you in a way are Ramza.

And, here is where I propose the idea. Another Tactics game. Not just a Tactics game, but the best Tactics game. Here's what I have so far.
...Uhh. Something about corrupt churchs or kids teleported into books? Who cares? It's a video game. Set it in St. Ivalice and start a clan. It's your story, Tidus.

The battle system is the same as the previous Tactics games. Spells are instant like in Advance/A2. Each weapon/skill has a set range.

There would be a law system like in Advance/A2, with law cards to screw the system

Essential to the Tactics series, there would be a lot of jobs available to build any kind of attack team you want. There is no wrong way to build your characters. There would also be DLC jobs, which are explained below.

There would be a massive number of weapons, armor, etc. This include swords, bows, guns, knives, guns, the usual FF weapons.

You learn abilities from equipment like in Advance/A2.This encourages the player to seek out every weapon or buy DLC weapons.

Like in Advance/A2, side quests are available right after the intro battles.

Like in Tactics, you can buy more soldiers from shops. Options would be male/female Humes, Bangaas, Vieras, Nu Mous, Moogles, etc.

This is what Square Enix hasn't capitalized on. This is so much potential for Square Enix to make a competitive SRPG, but they haven't. In multiplayer, you can take your party and battle others online in huge battles. There could be up to 4 players, or 2-on-2.

In addition to competitive battles, you can take up quests with other players in co-op play.

Where the bulk of the money comes from. In Tactics 1, you could get Cloud in a side quest, and in the PSP port, Luso from A2. Here, you can buy characters/side quests to get characters from main number FFs, including

Light Warrior (Any of the 6)
Firion
Onion Knight
Cecil (Dark Knight/Paladin)
Cloud
Squall
Zidane
Tidus
Yuna (both FFX and FFX-2 versions. FFX version is a Summoner, FFX-2 is gun-related class)
Ashe
Lightning
Anybody else who was available from War of the Lions

Each has their own unique job, abilities, and equipment based on their respective games.

In addition, you can buy exclusive jobs, such as SeeD or SOLDIER. SeeD could have a unique ability to draw AP from an enemy. You can also buy new weapons/weapon types, such as gunblades

Also, DLC side quests/areas/bosses, including

Garland/ Chaos
Warmech
Kefka
Sephiroth
Ultima Weapon

etc.

make it your own ?

instead of it being fft it could be like fft ?

your own characters your own storyline your own plot twist

see where im going at ?

square enix would like it more and btw less legal issues trying get ahold of the propper voice actors etc it would suck if they didnt had the right voice actors

Video games don't need voice-actors. They need good gameplay, hence video game.

Here is my suggestion to them:

stop sucking Sony's penis. It is why they got AIDS. Speaking metaphorically, but they seriously need to drop the hubris that they have (Which they got after devoting a large portion of their time to making Sony's games as "epic" as possible), put themselves together, and give what the fans really want.

While, yes, remakes are [s]usually[/s] basically always a sign of laziness and uncreativity, I should point out that there are a lot of errors in what you've said, the first being that Square will probably not remake FF7, at least not any time soon, on account of them doing their level best to avoid producing anything of quality.

Second, FF7 is basically unplayable anymore. The polygonal models are so ugly they make, say, Final Fantasy One look pretty by comparison. The dialogue is s***. It has ridiculously long, unskippable summon animations. I hear magic defense is bugged as well. Is that true?

And there's the even longer list of things that should be fixed that Square would NOT correct, but...

Yes, yes, but a minimal level of graphical prowess is essential, or at least helpful, in making a game work - otherwise there'd be no point in advancing past Pong-level of graphics. And voice-acting that doesn't suck adds another layer of realism to a story.

Or, put more succinctly, just because games shouldn't attempt to copy movies doesn't mean they should avoid emulating them in any way.

A remake is ot laziness. It tends to be revival of an old game. And is the game is quite old, people appreciate the game (If they liked the old version) and usually enjoy it. Isn't that all that matters?
