Crystal Beasts - This is fun as hell, but I need to improve.

Recommended Posts

This is IRL, and I enjoy playing with it greatly, but I'm looking for some advice on swaps to make because realistically, there's so many times when I could just go off with plays, and the inconsistency of missing one combo piece really hinders me.

3 | Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus
3 | Crystal Beast Topaz Tiger
2 | Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth
2 | Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle
2 | Ape Fighter

3 | Rare Value
2 | Crystal Beacon
2 | Crystal Blessing
2 | Crystal Promise
2 | Mystical Space Typhoon
2 | Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins
2 | Pot of Duality
1 | Crystal Release
1 | Dark Hole
1 | Heavy Storm
1 | Monster Reborn

2 | Solemn Warning
2 | Horn of the Phantom Beast
2 | Torrential Tribute
1 | Solemn Judgment
1 | Mirror Force

So that's a really rough outline. I might be a card or two short there, but I've tested this so many times IRL and while I've been able to pull off a few luck victories against Chaos Dragons, it hasn't held up well against much else, especially spam-heavy Decks like Karakuri.

I'm thinking of cutting the Promise down to 1, but it's essentially a Monster Reborn, and with Carbuncle, it can net more plusses than normal. At the same time, Crystal Blessing always seems to come in handy. I'm not really sure what changes to make, although I have considered adding Forbidden Lances.

I'd like to up the monster count by a card or two, just to increase the chances of drawing into something of a placeholder.

Ape Fighter has tested relatively well, being a Horn of the Phantom Beast target and all, and it's better than the majority of the other Crystal Beasts so I figured it might be worth a try.

Either way, looking for some suggestions/fixes.

I've considered Amethyst Cat too, at no more than 1, to offer some Rank 3 options off a Carbuncle play.

The Deck spams Shark Drake like no problem, but other than that I don't have a lot of "big plays".

I've tried Guardian Eatos, too, but a lot of times I didn't like it. Any ideas?

Neg a Heavy for Dragon Queen of Tragic Ends. Dragon Queen is amazing in CBs, and Heavy is only good for a first-turn drop.
Also, ever considered Summoner Monks, since you run so many spells? I'd recommend one or two, along with finding space for a third Rainbow Ruins.

Dragon Queen? I've considered it, but I'm not sure. I guess it couldn't hurt to test one.

Also, what would I drop for Monks? Like I said, this is really a test-and-try approach.

Mmm, I would really suggest dropping either Ape Fighter or Horn for a Monk or two.
And Dragon Queen is just plusses all day, or a wall when you need it.

Oh, and also... Scrap Beast goes incredibly well along with Monks, along with Scrap Dragon. I'd say to either drop a Promise or a Blessing for the Beasts along with the Monks, because Scrap Dragon is amazing with the Field Spell.

Unfortunately, I don't have Scrap Dragon, and unless it gets a reprint, I can't afford to get one, either. Also, I believe you'd be unable to use Scrap Dragon's effect on the Field Spell Card because Scrap Dragon has to destroy both targets.

The question is, would Scrap Beast be worth it without Scrap Dragon for other Synchroing?

The ruling actually is thay, since Scrap Dragon destroys both cards simultaneously, if one of the cards had destruction immunity, the other card will still be destroyed.

But ah, I see that this is IRL. To be honest, if you don't have Scrap Dragon, then don't run Beast.

So, you're thinking drop a Crystal Blessing for Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings?
