Raine
Where do you prioritize good storytelling in an age of Micheal Bay, Call of Duty, general sensationalist tones of choosing to shock and awe viewers with explosions, forced irony, and drawn out suspense rather then captivate and mesmerize them with deep characters, mystery and complex suspense, and just the classic entertaining plots that aren't 1 dimensional? Tentacruel
It's bad. That's we're all nerds. It's so we can find better storytelling and what-not in obscure stuff.
Hydra of Ages
It's exactly as bad as it has been anywhere ever. Popularity not correlating to quality isn't something the modern world invented.
Catterjune
Step 1: Tell a good story. Step 2: If you can't tell a good story, tell a bad one but tell it in an interesting way. Don't quote this with "Step 3: ???" "Step 4: Profit!". That joke is as used and worn out as your mom.

Cin
It's probably why I don't watch much in terms of tv or films (except Crime series), there's too much emphasis on shock and action.
Just Crouton
Power Rangers. No really, Power Rangers has a balance of good story-telling and action, especially RPM. Though, at one point, the storytelling got really boring and felt like most of the episode flew by (Mystic Force), or the action became the most painful part of an episode (Operation Overdrive), or characters and story-telling sucked (Operation Overdrive), or they made a long-time comic relief character who once rallied the city into helping the Rangers in the final battle regress in development into a boring loser (Samurai), or they made the sixth ranger annoying and bilingual in a way they made him more annoying (Samurai), or they get the seasonal made-in-America exclusively for use in the Megazord cockpit where it just looks cool and does nothing (Samurai). Now what I talking about again? Oh, right. Power Rangers RPM has great story-telling. The overall story is dark, but the characters are colorful, the humor is spot-on and never misses the mark, the drama is moving, the acting is the best since Time Force, the music is the best since pre-Disney era, and the action is great. The show also self-parodies perfectly. The best part is that it seems to be completely different from the Sentai, so the writers aren't just copy-pasting like previous seasons or in Samurai where entire episodes are copy-paste from it's Sentai.
Step 2: If you can't tell a good story, tell a bad one but tell it in an interesting way.
OR make an anime...oh wait, same thing. Cin
Animes can do well in terms of story telling, but can get a little extreme, but so can any story telling media.
Hydra of Ages
The instrument doesn't write the music. The quality of the story isn't dependant on the medium, merely how well it can be conveyed.
