This isn't about the shows, its what the Toonami label represents. No one was expecting anything spectacular. Its about the nostalgia and bringing anime to a new generation.

Under this logic the television industry should have failed a while ago.

Also, fun fact, #CowboyBebop is trending world wide.

In that case, they dropped the ball by bringing more of the same.

Before Toonami, I was watching shows like Scooby Doo and the Super Friends around this time (circa. 1996/97). When Toonami started, all they had was Voltron and Thunder Cats, two shows my older brothers grew up with, and two shows they never ran before. It was all Toonami needed to sell it to me. Then, they got Robotech, yet another show my brothers enjoyed at my age. I was given this chance to enjoy shows my brothers watched back then, and loved these shows, despite that Cartoon Network sucks for not running the 3rd season. Later, they got Dragon Ball Z, Ronin Warriors, and Sailor Moon. Ronin Warriors I already watched on UPN in 95/96, Sailor Moon I was able to watch it more often, and Dragon Ball Z which despite how much the show sucks, it was a fun way to kill 20 minutes, and marathons of it were passible. These wasn't Scooby Doo or Super Friends, and these shows may have been from the 80's and old, but they were fresh, they were action-packed, and the block was different.

Then, in the 2000s, Toonami got a massive haul of Gundam shows, Wing which brought me into the series, and the original which made me realize Wing sucked and that the Universal Century is better. There was also 8th MS Team, and War in the Pocket, the latter which had beautiful artwork like Robotech and the Gundam was awesome with gatling gun arms. They also got G Gundan,, which was fun while it was on, but I'm not going out of my way to watch it again. Sadly, they also got SD Gundam, which was an idiot decision and they should've tried getting Victory Gundam.

Most importantly, these were shows that weren't easily available already on the internet (Youtube, etc wasn't out yet) or in stores on VHS (or DVD box sets like in today's world). So, I actually tuned in EVERY DAY to watch the new episodes of Voltron/Gundam/Sailor Moon/ etc.

And, this is why the new Toonami failed. Not only are the two new shows already available on Funimation's Youtube and aren't pirated, but the rest of their lineup is just the same stuff they've been running for months prior. There's no nostalgia in repackaging the same lineup from last week, swapping 2 shows you can find online that aren't pirated, and renaming it "Toonami". The way they executed this, they could've swapped 2 timeslots for Yugioh GX and renamed the block "Miguzi".

And yes, Toonami brought anime to new generation. That is, they brought anime that people may have never heard of, had never been entirely available in America, nor had the chance of watching when they were little. But, they didn't bring us anime already conveniently uploaded to Funimation's Youtube. My memories of Toonami was a block that continued shows I watched when I was little and completed them (Sailor Moon/ DBZ), brought me shows that have been in America prior whether old or new (Gundam in general), and shows of old that my brothers watched when they were my age (Voltron/Thundercats). It wasn't repackaging Scooby Doo and the Super Friends and saying "it's Toonami". First impressions last forever, and this first night, which gave the same shows from last week, combined with the fact they admitted to have a low budget paints a negative image in my mind that is just Adult Swim with Tom the Robot instead of a revival of the cutting edge cartoon block from 10+ years ago.

Sweeeeeeet.
I kinda feel One Piece was cheated out of popularity in the US, mostly because of 4Kids. I stopped watching it on TV because it was so damn kiddy and Luffy's voice made me cringe, so I simply stuck to the manga.
And then the Funimation dub came out. While Luffy still had an infuriating voice, everything else was pretty awesome. But by then, I don't think anyone cared or took the time to notice because they already settled their opinions.
Luffy's voice in both dubs fit his personality almost perfectly. It's the show itself that got old.

If this turns out to be a success, they could get a weekday lineup, where it would be possible to air the stuff targeted at younger viewers.
Because then they'll be playing to the people who want to watch and did so much to bring it back.
Especially when people try to use lame excuses like saying fansubs are better.
Fansubs do have their thing over others. For one, they don't try to "westernize" everything that happens and instead take in the entirety of Japan and its culture, since they like the "otherness" of it all.

I'm kind of sad FLCL won't be on Toonami.
It was only like 4 episodes, so I'm glad they realized everyone had seen it 20-50 times already.

Deadman Wonderland was.....strange. It is interesting, but I honestly don't know what to really think of it.
Casshern Sins was cool. A lot more basic, but with an extra order of post-apocalypse.

Side from that over all it is just Adult Swim given the Toonami label.
Cassern Sins has seemed quite a bit empty for me, other than a few things in the last episode. Wonderland, if it stays with the Manga, will be filled with mind-wrenching events and emotions.

Cashern reminds me of Megaman for some reason.

Yeah, seems like Megaman Zero to me. But by looks he reminds me of Speed Racer.
You understand that Casshern came out in 1973, right? The look is more like speed racer because that's when the original manga was written, in a time period only several years after Astro Boy, Speed Racer and Gigantor were made.
No, it's your logic that's failing. It's only been out for 2 weeks, you can't even make this statement, especially when everyone is watching it.

But Crouton does make a good point, Cartoon Network should get the rights to air the last season of GX.

Toonami is having a real nice run. Can't wait for them to get more shows. Despite the fact the I want the popular shows on, I want to see some more kinda obscure ones. Maybe they can dub KHR.
rather they run the sub they can run all 600+ episodes super easy no time money wasted on dubing the entire thing

plus if they are willing to run 1 sub they might run more of em which can open doors for new obscure anime

i have a HUGE LIST of obscure anime they i would like to see on toonami but the key term is "i would like to see on"

flcl is 6 episode long it was great but you do have a point everyone seen it 20-50 times allready

crouton should aim higher all of yugioh on cn/as/toonami/etc. a great addition if you ask me but i got a feeling it will not happen
