[background=transparent]Prologue[/background]

[background=transparent]“Hey, Dr. Faker? Could you take a look at this?” the technician called. His normally monotonous voice now had a very urgent tone.[/background]

[background=transparent]The wild-haired scientist whirled around in his levitating chair. “What, what is it?!” Dr. Faker called in his shrieking voice. “Don’t tell me you messed up the code [/background][background=transparent]AGAIN[/background][background=transparent]!”[/background]

[background=transparent]The technician’s face grew bright red. “N-no sir, it’s just…There’s something with these sensors…They sense some sort of being…Someone from the Astral World, judging by the energy signature.”[/background]

[background=transparent]A look of fury crossed Dr. Faker’s face. “The Astral World?! But that’s not possible…It was destroyed! [/background][background=transparent]I[/background][background=transparent] DESTROYED IT!!” [/background]

[background=transparent]Dr. Faker got down from his chair, and took an escalator down to the level of his technicians. He stood over the shoulder of the technician who called for him, and he examined the screen. It did, indeed, show the energy signature of a being from the Astral World.[/background]

[background=transparent]The technician looked up at the doctor, a terrified expression on his face.[/background]

[background=transparent]The doctor, however, merely smiled. “Very well then, it seems that we have a new target…Monitor him closely, people.”[/background]

[background=transparent]☼ ►◄ ☼[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao Henjin stood on the deck jutting out behind his house, looking up at the night sky. “Wow, look at all of those stars…I’m so glad I don’t live inside Heartland. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to see all of ‘em, eh Shiroboshi?” Takao turned and smiled at the white cat sitting on the railing. The old cat turned its head toward him and yawned. Takao laughed.[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao turned back up to look at the night sky. Amid all of the numerous pinpricks of light, there seemed to be one that shone brighter than all the others…And it seemed to be growing bigger. “What the…!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao dove down onto the hard wooden deck and covered his head with his hands just before the woods next to his house exploded with light and sound. When the din died down, he slowly picked himself up. The ground was shaking a little, but he could stand perfectly fine.[/background]

[background=transparent]The old cat known as Shiroboshi leapt down from the railing and began walking toward the woods. It stopped briefly and turned its head toward Takao, meowing loudly.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Shiro-chan, what are you…Uh, nevermind. Suppose I should just go with you, eh?” He vaulted over the railing ungracefully and landed on the ground with the characteristic [/background][background=transparent]THUD[/background][background=transparent] of face hitting ground. Takao pulled himself up off the ground and stumbled off in the direction the cat went.[/background]

[background=transparent]Finally, after a few minutes stumbling through the dark woods, Takao caught up to Shiroboshi and paused. They were standing in a large clearing, and there was a crater in the center of it. Shiroboshi moved closer to the crater, and a white ball of light burst forth and slammed into the old white cat.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Shiro-chan!” Takao shouted, running toward the animal. When he got closer, however, he noticed that Shiroboshi was unharmed…However, the iris of his right eye had changed from gold to white. “Shiro-chan…Are you okay?”[/background]

[background=transparent]The cat merely gave him a quizzical look, then walked back the way it came, back into the woods.[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao shook his head, then looked back at the crater, which was still smoldering. There was a small black box-like object, which Takao picked up. It was warm to the touch, but not as hot as he thought it would be. He examined it, but couldn’t really get a good look at it in the moonlight. He shrugged, placed it in his jacket pocket, and went the way Shiroboshi had gone, back toward the house.[/background]

[background=transparent]Chapter 1: Water Hazard[/background]

[background=transparent]“…Unfortunately, the duelist known as ‘III’ could not be reached for comment on the whereabouts or activities of his b—”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao slammed his fist down on the “OFF” button on his alarm clock, and the voice of the newscaster cut off immediately. He slowly pulled his torso up and rubbed his eyes with his fists. He glanced at the LCD display on his alarm clock. The time read 7:00. He still had thirty minutes before he had to leave for school.[/background]

[background=transparent]Shiroboshi leapt up onto the bed and stared at Takao. His right eye was still white, just as Takao thought it had been in his dream…[/background][background=transparent]No, not a dream…That really happened…But why am I not freaking out? Why do I feel as though this is all normal?[/background][background=transparent] Takao shook his thoughts aside and flung himself out of bed, landing face-down on the floor.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Well, better get ready for school…”[/background]

[background=transparent]☼ ►◄ ☼[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao sat in the monorail car, watching the city go by. He was just barely paying attention to what his friend Shinji was saying.[/background]

[background=transparent]“…But I still say that there’s no way anyone in our class could beat me. I mean, everyone except me doesn’t even [/background][background=transparent]strategize[/background][background=transparent]. All they care about is getting out a strong monster and attacking. I mean seriously! Alexandrite Dragon doesn’t win games…Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem, however, wins games. Are you even listening anymore?”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao looked up at his friend. Shinji Yosuke was a slender boy, and he had shaggy blonde hair and piercing emerald eyes. He almost always had the same expression on his face…It was an expression that reminded you of a celebrity who tries to downplay how much enjoyment they get out of having so many adoring fans.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Yeah, I’m listening, Shinji. Don’t get too full of yourself, though. I’m sure someone could beat you easily,” Takao responded, slightly annoyed. [/background][background=transparent]He always hated when Shinji started gloating about his own dueling ability.[/background]

[background=transparent]Shinji laughed. “Is that so?” he asked mockingly. “And who would that be? You? Ha! You haven’t beaten me once!”[/background]

[background=transparent]As much as it pained Takao to admit it, Shinji was right. He had never once won a duel against Shinji, not in the six years they’d known eachother. His deck won against almost everybody, but it was useless against Shinji’s Dark World cards. “Maybe someone like Shark?” he finally replied.[/background]

[background=transparent]Shinji’s expression became more serious. “Shark, eh? Well, we’ll just see about that, won’t we?” Shinji seemed to have lost a bit of his ego now that a duelist who was possibly more powerful than him was mentioned.[/background]

[background=transparent]Everyone at Heartland High School knew that Shark was one of the best duelists on campus. Even the teachers were scared to duel Shark. And if someone [/background][background=transparent]did[/background][background=transparent] manage to defeat Shark in a duel, he’d just beat you up anyway.[/background]

[background=transparent]After that little comment, the entire ride to school was spent in silence.[/background]

[background=transparent]☼ ►◄ ☼[/background]

[background=transparent]“Mr. Henjin,” Professor Kitano said. “Do you have any idea why Mr. Yosuke has not yet returned to class?”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao looked over to his right, just now noticing his best friend wasn’t sitting next to him. “Uh, no sir.”[/background]

[background=transparent]“Hmm…Well, could you go and look for him? He was here earlier, so I’m a bit worried…”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao nodded and took a pass from Professor Kitano’s desk. He pushed the heavy, creaky door open and exited the classroom.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Hey! Shinji!” Takao called, cupping his hands around his mouth. “You out here? Class started already, you know!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao was out in the Duel Yard, where almost every student spent their free time during the school day. It was during one of those rare periods where nobody was off and nobody had a dueling class, so the Yard was empty…[/background][background=transparent]No, there’s a duel over there! It has to be Shinji![/background]

[background=transparent]Takao ran over to the northern end of the Duel Yard by the reservoir, and he saw what was going on. Shinji, his best friend, was dueling against the school’s biggest bully: Shark. He put his duel Gazer on and braced himself for what the duel might look like.[/background]

[background=transparent]☼ ►◄ ☼[/background]

[background=transparent]Shinji grimaced. He was already down to 1200 Life Points, and he only controlled Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World and[background=transparent] [/background]Brron, Mad King of Dark World. Shark, on the other hand, still had a near-full [/background][background=transparent]3700[/background][background=transparent] Life Points, and controlled a Submersible Carrier Aero Shark and Needle Sunfish.[/background]

[background=transparent]“My turn. Draw!” Shark declared. He pulled the top card from his deck in a swift, fluid motion. A smile overtook his lips. “First, I’ll tribute my Needle Sunfish to Normal Summon Jawsman!” The large blue sunfish disappeared in a flash of yellow light, and a large creature covered in many fanged mouths appeared. “Now, the effect of my Needle Sunfish activates! Since he was sent to the Graveyard this turn, your Brron loses 500 Attack Points!” Numerous needles fired out of a black portal that appeared over the monster’s head, and his Attack Point indicator showed the number [/background][background=transparent]1800[/background][background=transparent] rapidly decreasing to [/background][background=transparent]1300[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“Next,” Shark continued, “My Jawsman gains 300 Attack Points for every other Water-Attribute monster I control, bringing his Attack up to 2900!” The creature known as Jawsman gnashed the teeth in all of its many mouths, and it took on a blue aura as the Attack Point indicator showed the number [/background][background=transparent]2600[/background][background=transparent] quickly increasing to [/background][background=transparent]2900[/background][background=transparent]. “Now, Jawsman, attack his Brron with Shark Scream!”[/background]

[background=transparent]The monster leapt into the air and launched and ear-shattering screech from each one of its mouths, destroying Shinji’s monster. Shinji covered his ears as his Life Points dropped to [/background][background=transparent]0[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]The Augmented Reality system dissolved away, and Shark was declared the winner. Shinji collapsed to the ground, his cards falling all over the place. Takao ran over and crouched next to his friend. “Shinji, hey! Are you alright?” Takao didn’t feel like telling Shinji [/background][background=transparent]“I told you so”[/background][background=transparent] right now.[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark strided on over and smirked at the fallen Shinji. “You know the deal, punk. Hand over your Deck.” Shark’s lackeys snickered behind him as he grabbed the deck from Shinji's shaking hands.[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao clenched his fist and stood up. “Hold on, Shark!” he shouted. “You can’t take his Deck!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark looked over at Takao and frowned. “And why is that? Are [/background][background=transparent]you[/background][background=transparent] going to do something about it? Don’t make me laugh! You lose to him all the time, so it wouldn’t be a challenge! And I don’t even want [/background][background=transparent]your[/background][background=transparent] deck!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao gritted his teeth and growled. “Then I’ll wager this instead!” Takao pulled the black box from the crater out of his pants pocket. He just now noticed that it had a starry design like the night sky covering it. It was no bigger than a Deck, and was smooth all over.[/background]

[background=transparent]It immediately caught Shark’s attention.[/background]

[background=transparent]☼ ►◄ ☼[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao put on his Duel Gazer and placed his D-Pad on his wrist. He tapped the button on the side of his Duel Gazer and it turned on. His Duel Disk unfolded from the D-Pad.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Augmented Reality Vision Link established,” a disembodied feminine voice said.[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark was already geared up. “Let’s duel!” he called. “I’ll take the first move. Draw!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark added the top card of his deck to his 5-card hand, and he smiled.[/background]

[background=transparent]“I activate the Water Hazard Spell Card! Once per turn, if I control no monsters, I can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Water monster from my hand!” Shark declared. “In fact…I use its effect to Special Summon Piercing Moray from my hand!” A gigantic eel with a long white horn appeared in a burst of golden light. “Next, I activate the effect of Falling Water! By selecting a monster I control, I can change its level to 1, 2, or 3. So, I select my Moray, and make it a Level 3 monster!”[/background]

[background=transparent]“Oh no…” Shinji said, frightened.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Next,” Shark began. “I’ll activate the effect of the Big Jaws in my hand! Since a Normal Spell was activated this turn, I can Special Summon him from my hand!” A giant blue shark with a blade attached to its head burst out of the ground in front of shark, sending dirt and debris flying.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now!” Shark shouted, clear enough for everyone to hear. “I’ll use these two monsters to form the Overlay Network! Let’s go, Xyz Summon! [/background][background=transparent]It’s feeding time for Submersible Carrier Aero Shark!” As Shark chanted, the two monsters he controlled turned into spheres of blue light. They shot into the air and swirled around before slamming into a red portal that appeared in the center of the dueling field, and two sharks joined together by an orange apparatus emerged. Two spheres of light orbited the sharks.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now, I’ll activate Aero Shark’s effect! By detaching one Overlay Unit, I can inflict 400 points of damage to your life points for each card in my hand. Since there’s two, you take 800!” Two missiles shot out of the orange apparatus, and they both split into four smaller missiles each. The missiles exploded around Takao’s feet, and his life points dropped from [/background][background=transparent]4000[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]3200[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“I’ll set one card face-down and end my turn!” Shark declared, smiling.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Takao…You can do this, can’t you?” Shinji asked hesitantly.[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao wasn’t sure of the answer himself. He hadn’t had a turn yet, and already Shark had summoned an Xyz Monster and inflicted 800 damage to his Life Points. [/background][background=transparent]Not looking good...[/background]

[background=transparent]Chapter 2: 0 + 17 = 24?[/background]

[background=transparent]“M-my turn!” Takao called in a faltering voice. “D-draw!” He pulled the top card from his deck and added it to his hand.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Okay...” Takao took a deep breath, and began to regain his composure. “I activate Graceful Charity! So, by this card’s effect, I can draw three cards from my deck!” Takao drew three cards. “Now, I have to discard two of them.” He placed two cards from his hand into the Graveyard slot on his duel disk. “Next, since one of the discarded cards was Gem-Knight Obsidian, his effect activates! Since he was sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon a Normal Monster from my Grave! So, I select Gem-Knight Garnet!”[/background]

[background=transparent]A humanoid figure with orange, crystalline armor appeared on Takao’s side of the field in a fountain of golden light.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Next,” shouted Takao, “I’ll activate Particle Fusion! By using this card, I can fuse two Gem-Knights in my hand or on my side of the field! So, [/background]
[background=transparent]I select the Gem-Knight Garnet I control and the Gem-Knight Lazuli in my hand and send them to the Graveyard!” A small creature with crystals on its body appeared, and its body twisted and spun, surrounding Gem-Knight Garnet with its warped form. “Now, let’s go! The Gem-Knight of burning passion appears! Fusion Summon—Gem-Knight Ruby!” Finally, a large figure similar to Garnet, albeit with crimson armor and wielding a polearm, emerged from the swirling vortex that was Gem-Knight Lazuli. An indicator popped up, signifying that it had 2500 ATK.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now Lazuli’s effect applies! Since she was sent to the Grave via a card effect, I can add a Normal Monster from my graveyard to my hand! Of course, I select my Gem-Knight Garnet!” A golden light shone from Takao’s Graveyard, and Garnet popped out and into his hand. “Next, I banish Particle Fusion from my Grave to select the Gem-Knight Garnet in my hand! Since he was used as a Fusion Material for Ruby, his ATK is added to Ruby’s!” Gem-Knight Ruby shone with a burning orange aura, and an indicator showed his ATK rising from [/background][background=transparent]2500[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]4400[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now Ruby, destroy his Aero Shark! Burning Ruby Slash!” The Gem-Knight swung a flaming polearm at the apparatus holding the twin sharks together. There was a massive explosion, and Shark’s Life Points dropped from [/background][background=transparent]4000[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]1500[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“And with this face-down card,” Takao said, setting a card, “I end my turn.”[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark growled in distaste. “My turn, draw!” Shark pulled the top card from his deck, and a gleam appeared in his eye. “I activate my Water Hazard Spell Card’s effect, so I can Special Summon Drill Barnacle from my hand!” A wall of water materialized in front of Shark, and a large mollusk covered in several pink drills burst out from it. “Next, I Normal Summon Needle Sunfish!” A large blue sunfish materialized from out of nowhere, right in front of Shark.[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark took on a manic expression, and a dark aura appeared around him. “Seventeen is the number of the seconds you’ll scream in agony when you are ripped to shreds by my monster! Seventeen is the number of times you’ll plead for your life, a grace which I will not grant you! With my two monsters, I form the Overlay Network!” As Shark recited his mad chant, the two monsters near him morphed into two spheres of blue light and shot into the air. Then, they shot back downward into the large galaxy-shaped portal that materialized in the center of the field, and a rainbow dome of energy burst forth from the center. “Go, Xyz Summon! Now would be a good opportunity to go back in time and [/background][background=transparent]revise[/background][background=transparent] your decision to duel me! It’s feeding time for Number 17: Leviathan Dragon!”[/background]

[background=transparent]A purplish-blue, coiled sphere with multiple scythe-like protrusions appeared out of the rainbow dome,. It slowly uncoiled, and a stylized “17” flashed in Takao’s vision before relocating itself to Shark’s hand. As it finished uncoiling, it was revealed to be a large serpentine dragon with six scythe-like wings, orbited by two spheres of light.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now,” Shark began. “I detach one Overlay Unit from my Leviathan Dragon to increase his attack by 500!” One of the orbs of light orbiting the dragon drifted toward its mouth, and the monster bit into it, causing it to burst. An indicator popped up, signaling that Leviathan Dragon’s ATK increased from [/background][background=transparent]2000[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]2500[/background][background=transparent] via its effect. “Also, since the detached monster was Needle Sunfish, your Gem-Knight loses 500 attack points!” A myriad of needles materialized out of nowhere and jammed themselves into Gem-Knight Ruby, appearing to cause him some pain.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now, Leviathan Dragon, attack! Vice Stream!” The dragon reared its head, and it fired a blast of white-and-blue energy at Takao’s monster, blasting him to pieces. Takao’s Life Points dropped from [/background][background=transparent]3200[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]2700[/background][background=transparent]. “Now I end my turn!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao gulped as he looked at Leviathan Dragon. “R-right...I draw!” Takao pulled the top card from is deck and placed it in his hand. He examined the cards he now possessed. [/background][background=transparent]Let’s see...Gem-Knight Garnet, Monster Reborn, Gem-Knight Tourmaline, and Gem-Armadillo...[/background]

[background=transparent]“YOU MUST USE THE POWER OF THE NUMBERS,” a disembodied voice called.[/background]

[background=transparent]“H-huh? W-who said that?” Takao said, looking around. It wasn’t the voice of anyone he could think of.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Uh, Takao?” Shinji called. “You okay?”[/background]

[background=transparent]“Did someone just call my name?”[/background]

[background=transparent]Shinji gave Takao a look that resembled a cross between incredulity and fear. “Uh, no one said anything...”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao got the feeling his friend though he was crazy. He shook it off, and dismissed it as hearing things. “I activate my face-down Doublet Fusion! By banishing the Gem-Knight Lazuli and Gem-Knight Obsidian in my grave, I can perform a Fusion Summon! Let’s go, the Gem-Knight of unyielding strength—Gem-Knight Zirconia!” A hulking, gorilla-like Gem-Knight appeared on Takao’s side of the field. “Now, I’ll attack your Leviathan Dragon! Let’s go Zirconia—Attack with Glittering Fist!”[/background]

[background=transparent]“Not quite!” Shark retorted, his expression growing madder. “I activate Zeus’s Breath! So, by this card’s effect, I can negate your monster’s attack!” A massive gust of wind blew the Gem-Knight backward, negating his attack. “Also, at the end of this turn, you’ll take 800 damage for each Water-Attribute monster I control!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao growled in frustration. “I end my turn...” Just as he said those words, a bolt of lightning struck him, and his Life Point total dropped from [/background][background=transparent]2700[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]1900[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark grinned, baring his teeth. “Draw!” Without looking at his hand, Shark declared: “My Leviathan’s effect activates once more! By detaching another Overlay Unit, I’ll increase his attack by 500 more points!” The serpentine dragon bit into his remaining orb with unparalleled zeal, and his ATK increased from [/background][background=transparent]2500[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]3000[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“Next, I activate Aqua Jet, which allows me to increase the attack points of a Water monster I control by 1000!” An orange, jet-like apparatus attached itself to Leviathan Dragon’s back. His attack indicator showed [/background][background=transparent]3000[/background][background=transparent] rapidly increasing to [/background][background=transparent]4000[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now Leviathan Dragon, attack his Zirconia with Revise Stream!” There was a deafening boom as Zirconia exploded, and Takao’s Life Points quickly fell to [/background][background=transparent]800[/background][background=transparent]. “And that concludes my turn!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao strained himself to draw the next card. [/background][background=transparent]This is probably my last card this duel[/background][background=transparent]...[/background]

[background=transparent]“YOU CAN ONLY DEFEAT HIS CARD WITH ANOTHER NUMBER...AWAKEN THE ONE WITHIN YOUR HEART.”[/background]

[background=transparent]Suddenly, Takao was somewhere totally different. He was surrounded on all sides by and endless sea of stars. There was a bright white light in front of him. “Awaken the Number within your soul...It is the only way to win this duel.”[/background]

[background=transparent]“But how? Why?”[/background]

[background=transparent]“All will be explained in due time. But for now, you simply need two level 4 monsters for an Xyz Summon...The rest will come to you naturally.”[/background]

[background=transparent]And then, almost as soon as he arrived among the stars, he was gone, and back in the duel. He shook his head and regained his thoughts. [/background][background=transparent]Two level 4 monsters...Okay. I can do that. All I need is the right card...[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao finally drew. A look of relief crossed his face. “I activate Burial From the Different Dimenson! By using this, I can add up to three banished monsters to my Graveyard. So, I select Gem-Knight Obsidian and Gem-Knight Lazuli,” Takao explained. “Now, I activate Monster Reborn, allowing me to Special Summon Gem-Knight Obsidian from my Grave.” A black Gem-Knight appeared on Takao’s side of the field. [/background]

[background=transparent]“Next, I Normal Summon Gem-Knight Garnet!”[/background]

[background=transparent]Okay, so now all that’s left to do is Xyz Summon...[/background]

[background=transparent]“The light of the universe reflects off the surfaces of my monsters’ bodies...It shines brightly, and they become the stars themselves!” The words seemed to be pouring out of Takao, as though he had been waiting his whole life to say them. “I use my two monsters to form the Overlay Network! Go, and strike down those with evil in our hearts! Xyz Summon—Number 24: Thunder Guardian - Armor Dragoon!”[/background]

[background=transparent]A bolt of lightning struck the center of the dueling field. When it dissipated, a large, dull, metallic object appeared in its place. The object began to shift and crackle with electricity, and parts of it unfolded, revealing a dragon-like machine as a stylized number 24 flashed in Takao’s vision. Two orbs of golden light orbited the monster.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now, I activate Dragoon’s effect! By detaching one Overlay Unit, I can halve the attack of one monster you control, until the end of my turn! Then, my Dragoon gains attack points equal to the amount your monster lost, until the End Phase.” An orb of light flew into one of the gems on the monster’s shoulder, and the lights on its body shone brightly. It opened one of its claws, and a bolt of lightning shot out of it and slammed into Leviathan Dragon. The Dragon’s ATK fell from [/background][background=transparent]4000[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]2000[/background][background=transparent] in almost an instant, while Armor Dragoon’s ATK shot up from [/background][background=transparent]2400[/background][background=transparent] to [/background][background=transparent]4400[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“Now, Armor Dragoon, attack! Twin-Burst Shock!” Takao shouted at the top of his lungs.[/background]

[background=transparent]Armor Dragoon opened its claws, and a massive bolt of yellow lightning shot out from each one. The two bolts hit Leviathan Dragon and destroyed it, then pierced through the explosion and hit Shark, sending him flying and dropping his Life Points to [/background][background=transparent]0[/background][background=transparent].[/background]

[background=transparent]“Duel End. Takao Henjin is the victor,” the disembodied female voice called.[/background]

[background=transparent]Suddenly, a light shone in Takao’s pocket, and he pulled out the star-covered box. A rectangle of light emerged from the fallen Shark’s chest, and it shot into the box. There was a brief moment when the side of the box Takao was observing flashed the number “17”, but it quickly subsided.[/background]

[background=transparent]Looking around, Takao noticed a crowd had formed...And not just the plain-old kind of crowd that sometimes formed around intense duels; this was the entire school, including the faculty.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Dammit...” Shark said. He walked over to Takao. “Here. Take it.” He handed Takao a deck...He vaguely remembered that the purpose of this duel was to win back Shinji’s deck.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Oh. Hey, Shark?” Takao called as Shark started walking away.[/background]

[background=transparent]“Yeah?” Shark stopped, but he did not turn around.[/background]

[background=transparent]Takao paused before speaking again. “I had fun during that duel. I hope you did, too.”[/background]

[background=transparent]Shark stayed stationary for a moment, and then resumed walking.[/background]

Ok so I get the new characters and whatnot, but are any major changes going to happen with pre-existing characters since this is a re-load so I'd assume well be seeing a lot of old characters. With there be any differentiating personalities? Because Shark seems to be the same person, also I was curious... Will Already existing characters be getting any new cards? Because once again Shark's Deck seems about the same. I like how you added a few things that fit the deck I.E. "Piercing Moray" Well Anyway, I'd like to see how the story pans out.

Thanks for the feedback. Now, Quetzalcoatl, I'd like to address what you said...Number one, Shark will DEFINITELY be getting some new Custom Cards *COUGHfusionsCOUGH*. Also, people like Gauche and Droite and Shark will be given more in-depth backstories, as they are some of my favorite characters.

I dunno... there are some differences, but this, so far, is almost exactly the same plot of Zexal. Main character has some odd item, friend duels Shark, Shark uses 17, main character gets a Number in the middle of the duel... the only real differences are the main character's cards and the fact that we haven't seen anything like Astral yet.
