Xi-3
Aviel, the Lightning Sorceress OCG: "This monster can be Normal Summoned without tributes if you have 3 or more LIGHT monsters in your Graveyard. Once per turn you can target 1 LIGHT monster on your side of the Field and send it to the Graveyard. Inflict effect damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the targeted monster. If this monster would be destroyed by a Monster, Spell, or Trap Card's effect, you can discard 1 LIGHT monster to negate the effect and destroy the card. When this card is removed from the Field, you receive damage equal to 100x the number of LIGHT monsters in your Graveyard." XCG: "You can Normal Summon this monster without tributes if there are 3+ LIGHT-types in your Graveyard. Each turn you can send 1 LIGHT-type monster you control to the Graveyard, and inflict damage equal to that monster's ATK to your opponent's Life Points. If this monster would be destroyed by a card's effect, you can discard 1 LIGHT-type to negate the effect and destroy the card. When you remove this monster from the Field, receive damage equal to 100x the number of LIGHT-types in your Graveyard." 1. Creative Name & Picture: Yes and yes. She certainly does look like a lightning (or light-) wielding sorceress, as scantily-clad as she is. It's certainly a different outfit, considering the robes for which sorceresses are known. Mind you, I'm still used to the set-up from 'Negima' where Lightning magic is linked to Wind magic. That said, it's not sufficient reason to deduct any points at all. I like that she's named, instead of ending at a generic name like 'Dark Magician Girl.[25/25].' 2. Balance: The ATK and DEF are within a good range for a Level-5 with an effect. I like that there's a condition for being able to summon her without tributes, and that it is of medium difficulty. I have set up cards that go by the same method as Cyber Dragon, and it's much harder to summon when you already have monsters fielded. You use both a cool-down and card cost limit, especially for the first such effect. What I cannot understand is the Life Point cost when you send Aviel to the Graveyard. It leaves me wondering what that represents. Whatever it is, it would leave me leary of having any LIGHT-types in the Graveyard if I think there are chances she'll be destroyed. I believe she was balanced before that point, because she's not overly powerful for her Level, and there are costs to both her effects. [18/25]. 3. Cogency: Yes, I understood it. There were only a few changes to the description that I thought might be OCG fixes, but I'm not sure of them. The effect is clear enough that I believe anyone can use Aviel the first time. The only issue is in regards to printing: the text is going to be incredibly small, and hard to read. But I can't take off too much, even for that [22/25]. 4. Compatibility: Again I see an effect that can be applied to any monster with the qualifying attribute, and not a specific Warrior-type that you named below. Aviel's effect can thus be enacted with any other LIGHT-types, not just her Warrior 'partner.' The limited interaction means a limited score. Can the Warrior save her [15/25]? Raigeki, the Soul Thief OCG: "If this card is removed from the Field and sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon it to your side of the Field during your next Standby Phase. This card's ATK is equal to 200x the number of LIGHT monsters in your Graveyard. Once per turn you can discard 1 LIGHT monster from your hand to target 1 monster on your opponent's side of the Field. Unless your opponent can reveal a monster from their hand with an ATK higher than this card's ATK, the targeted monster is destroyed." XCG: "If this card is destroyed, Special Summon it during your next Sandby Phase. This card's ATK is equal to 200x the number of LIGHT-types in your Graveyard. Each turn you can discard 1 LIGHT-type from your hand and target 1 monster your opponent controls. If your opponent cannot reveal a monster in his/her hand with a higher ATK than your discarded card, destroy the targeted monster." 1. Creative Name & Picture: The picture looks very worthy of a Light-wielding Warrior, but too flashy to be a thief. That part in the name could use a change. I understand the concept that he's using the power of 'souls' in the Graveyard, but as the Graveyard is yours that does not a thief make. That makes me thing that it would be more interesting yet if "Raigeki" also took power from LIGHT-types in your opponent's Graveyard. Otherwise both name and picture are fantastic, literally and figuratively. [20/25]. 2. Balance: I believe you only need 1 question mark to show a monster whose stats are determined by something other than themselves. I can say that 1500 is a good DEF. I can image the 200x factor being both too much and too little power for a Level-4. It depends how many of a person's 59 other cards are LIGHT-types, and how many of those you can send to the Graveyard. Being able to destroy 1 card, even at cost, is something I had not imagined on a Level-4, but since I'm not up to date on the latest cards I don't think I can deduct all that much for that. Besides, he can be really weak or really strong depending on what's in your Graveyard. That affects how long it can stay on your Field. There are many ways to say this is and is not balanced... so I have to give a balanced score [16/25]. 3. Cogency: I believe I understood the effect perfectly again, yet feel free to correct me should I be mistaken. Again, you ahve the small text problem should someone try to print and use this card. Otherwise it is immediately usable [22/25]. 4. Compatibility: As with "Aviel," "Raigeki" does not specifically support any 1 card. His effect relates to discarding other monsters, not to protecting them, so whether "Aviel" is on the Field or in your hand "Raigeki" can only affect how you play her by sending her to the Graveyard or by being one of the cards that enable her to be summoned. This is, to be honest, a far lower level of compatibility than what I was expecting, but then maybe I should have written more on my expectations and been more precise about them [15/25]. Conclusion: Here again we have a Spellcaster-Warrior pair that can be used together, but do not enhance each other's ability together. They are fairly easy to summon and use, yet keeping them on the field can present as a challenge. Your overall score is 76.5%. Once again, I invite any comments and feedback you might have about the contest and my evaluations.

Chain Gunner OCG: "If "Rose of the Red Stone" is face-up on your side of the Field you may Normal Summon this card without tributes. Once per turn you may halve this card's ATK to inflict direct damage to your opponent." XCG: "If you successfully summoned "Rose of the Red Stone" you can summon this card without tributes. Each turn you may halve this card's ATK to inflict direct damage to your opponent." 1. Creative Name & Picture: Indeed he has a gun and chains. What would make him more creative is if you gave him a name. While Gunner's picture is of good quality overall, the bland colour and plain black background can only hurt your creative score. Perhaps with a little more time you'd have given him a name. Having proposed your entry I will choose to honour you by scoring you with the same rigour as the other Competitors [15/25]. 2. Balance: I have never seen a Level-6 monster with 2800 ATK before. The lower DEF provides some balance, however his ATK is as powerful as I would give to a Level-8 with a potent effect. I like that his being summoned without tributes depends on "Rose." The direct damage of 1400 may be in league with those of other cards, yet I tend to be uncomfortable with cards that can do more than 1000 points direct damage because in general it seems to be too much, but then that's just me, like I said [16/25]. 3. Cogency: Not only did I understand the effect, but there's little enough text that none of it shrunk. Grammatical mistakes were, I believe, minimized [23/25]. 4. Compatibility: Finally a card that uses his Partner's effect, even if only in the summoning process. Unfortunately once he's on the field he doesn't do anything more for "Rose." In a way that's too bad [20/25]. Rose of the Red Stone OCG: "This card cannot be destroyed by battle. During your Standby Phase increase the ATK and DEF of all WARRIOR monsters on your side of the Field by X. If "Chain Gunner" is face up on your side of the field this card is unaffected by Trap Cards." XCG: "This card cannot be destroyed in battle. During your Standby Phase increase the power of all WARRIOR-types that you control by X. If you successfully summoned "Chain Gunner" this card is immune to Trap Cards." 1. Creative Name & Picture: This one is much better. Not only do you name "Rose," but her background is not plain black (it has a gradient black-to-red), and she is more colourful. "Chain Gunner" is sandy even by comparison. [25/25] 2. Balance: Her ATK and DEF stats are, to my knowledge, congruent with a Level-3, however I would probably make her a Level-4 simply based on the potential of her effect. While she cannot be destroyed in battle her stats are fairly low, meaning you still receive significant damage in battle. What's least balanced is her ability to boost all WARRIOR-types without limit. You also failed to specify by how many points they are boosted. What I like most is that her Trap Immunity depends on "Chain Gunner" being there with her [16/25]. 3. Cogency: Just the issue of not knowing what her pro-Warrior boost is worth. Otherwise I understood the effect, and there is little enough text that it doesn't shrink, just like with "Chain Gunner [20/25]." 4. Compatibility: Compatible on a general level through the Warrior-boost, although it remains useless until a value is specified. Specifically compatible through the Trap Immunity, which specifies that "Chain Gunner" himself must be present for it to work. So "Rose" helps "Gunner" get onto the Field, and "Gunner" helps her by warding off Traps. But there remains large vulnerabilities to Spells, monster effects, and battle (oddly enough for "Gunner," not "Rose)." There is a boost, although unspecified. This is more to the tune of what I expected [23/25]. Conclusion: While there are some issues to be worked out this duo is definitely the strongest team as far as working together is concerned. Get through those issues and you will have a strong pair. Your overall score is 79%.
Overall Conclusions and Rankings: As this is my first contest I believe I have learned the value of being as specific as possible in my instructions to avoid misunderstandings. This contest was inspired through the Magister-Ministra pairs in 'Negima,' so I was expecting monsters with effects that would allow both of them to work well together. Specifically, I expected the Spellcaster to be an artillery, stat enhancing, or 'healing' support-type. I expected the Warrior to be able to redirect or negate attacks aimed at the Spellcaster. The entries where the effects were aimed at monsters with the same attribute showed me that I had not been specific enough, so it was a learning experience for me as well, even before the feedback stage. I want you all to know that I appreciate what that represents. Rank By Score - Reward 1. KuraiOokami [79%] - 30 Points 2. No. 34 Terror-Byte [76.5%] - 20 Points 3. Xi-3
Thank you for your kind words. I took my inspiration for how deeply to go, evaluation-wise, from guuu1234. Hopefully our success here will inspire more people to participate in my next contest.
Remei11
Thanks for the feedback I usually make names that nobody can ever think of, as its something to do
Xi-3
As long as the name is not as complicated as 'Nyarukothotep' (or whatever her name is from 'Haiyore! Nyaruko-san.' It's so complex I'm surprised the characters don't have any trouble with it. I'm sure the seiyuu do, just like Greg Iyres had lots of trouble with the mashed-up activation key they gave Negi for the English version of 'Negima!'). My favourite is 'Guenhwyvar,' which I believe is the is High Celtic version of 'Guenevere.' R.A. Salvatore chose it as the name for Drizzt Do'Urdden's astral panther friend in the 'Dark Elf' series of books. Salvatore is one of the fantasy and science fiction writers whom I admire because of his creativity and ability to adhere to continuity. As most of my cards are based in popular culture I cannot claim credit for the names, except when I integrate a title into the character. Of course, I give original names to a lot of the Spells and Traps, but I have not gone beyond that very often. I just like the pop culture stuff. All of you had original choices of pictures and names, even though some were more plain than others, and others were more vivid. It seems this contest was a great success even though the number of participants was much lower than I'd original anticipated. I am thankful to have had enough people to run the contest properly. I look forward to seeing what comes out of my next contest, which will also take some real thinking. If KuraiOokami wants to drop some comments too perhaps we can close the thread early. LeoVeracruse
Thank you very much, upon closer inspection i saw what you were saying and thank you for the feedback. I hope to see more contests posted by you. P.S. Rose was supposed to increase a warriors ATK/DEF by 100x.
Xi-3
One hundred? That's more understandable. I have Field Spell cards that do that sort of thing. I will certainly be holding more contest, after this thread is closed. I will ask the Moderators to take care of that if nobody has any other comments or questions. Since it looks like everyone was pretty satisfied with the whole experience I don't think anyone does, but there's no harm in asking just to be sure.
