Aspect Ratio, What's good what's bad?

Question

So doing some reasearch, I found two pictures. Each by the same guy, one who makes pictures for the site here. One was around 960x960, the other 388x388. Both looked good on the card. Sometimes the pictures I use arn't good, sometimes they are. Does anyone know where I want to aim at to get the best results?

Quality > Execution, personally. If you actually took the time to find that HQ image that's not a PNG file with pixels everywhere on it, then it's a good image.

PNG is the HQ file. JPEG/JPG is the LQ file extension.

Size is usually irrelevant as long as it's square, but stuff made at the card's size usually work best (i.e. 250x250 towards 300x300 are ideal proportions) because any details on it aren't needlessly ruined by downsizing.
