Those that can kill, however, are not always effective. Killers who are effective are known as one thing--Shadōburēdo, or Shadow Blade. While they do not necessarily live in the shadows, as some would expect an assassin to do, they act with the speed of light (or lack of) and with no conscious feeling. That is the curse of a Shadow Blade. They cannot feel remorse for their actions, they have eliminated all sense of woe and sadness. Some may not even consider them human, and rightfully so. Acting as nothing short of murderers, the Shadow Blades are feared and loved. Any job, any target... all will be completed.[/background] [background=rgb(251, 253, 254)]That is why through the Known World, especially in Kingdom Tsumi, the Shadow Blades' unrelenting hands are enlisted daily, and often times, two blades will meet, and only one will live to tell the tale. Though, they still feel no remorse, even when defeating one who is so uncannily similar to themselves. Once a Shadow Blade dies, they can finally be happy, knowing that they were part of just another contract, completing the cycle of their life.[/background] There is a Civil War breaking out throughout Tsumi. The Red Belts, lead by King Maeran Kage wish for Tsumi to remain in its current ways, allowing justified crime. The Blue Belts, lead by Duke Rhebarn Vaile, want the country to have a powerful military force, as well as an anti-crime force, and make Tsumi a safe place to live in once and for all. Both sides have endured much bloodshed. Too much. Eventually, both leaders decided to enlist the help of Shadow Blades to covertly assassinate high-priority targets and weaken the other side. Often times, the Shadow Blades willingly do jobs for either side. However, there is never a clear affiliation. That, however, doesn't mean that the Shadow Blades don't take simple assignments, and they will not bow to any leader. They control this war--just not actively. ~~~~~~~~~~ Yssere prowled the streets in the dead of the night, his face entirely lacking emotion, but in pain from his wound. It had been almost ten years since he'd gotten it in the first place, actually. Regardless, he had a contract, and he was entirely committed to fulfilling it. The target was simple- a merchant. Two merchants in the city of Maevis, Yssere's location of most business, had been known rivals for years. Yssere was surprised that it had taken this long for one to put a contract on the other. Though, he would question it, he just had to kill the little swine. Maybe have some fun with it, too. If he could manage at least. This merchant followed a strict daily schedule. Open up shop at nine in the morning, work all day, close at ten at night, then walk home. It was ten now, and Yssere was following closely behind this man. He was just waiting for the merchant to turn into the alley that he always did- it was apparently a shortcut. After a few moments of walking, the man turned into the alley and Yssere followed even more closely behind until he finally caught up to the merchant, pulled out his short sword, and stabbed him through the stomach. The merchant groaned and fell to the ground, blood spilling from his wound. "w...what is this...?" he said, coughing and clinging to life, "He's... finally done it.... hasn't he..? Jones, I mean. He's.. hired you to kill me...?" Yssere sheathed his blade and looked at the man for a moment through his mask. This one laying in front of him truly looked pathetic. "Well," he continued, "I... if you're going to slaughter me here, at least take that mask off so I can see my killer." Yssere complied. He removed his mask, showing the man every detail of his face before grabbing a vial of Fleshrot Extract from his belt and pouring it over the location of the man's heart. Putting the mask back on, Yssere walked away from the scene of the murder as the merchant screamed in agony, and Yssere fled from sight, eager to collect his pay.
