WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR A WISH?

Leylines run across and through the earth. The closest city to the antipode of the leylines of Fuyuki, Japan is San Cristo, Belize. Founded over five hundred years ago, San Cristo is known as “The First City” and “The City of Rain” to the locals – the first nickname comes from its being on the ruins of one of the first Belizean settlements, the second from the fact that it’s always nice and sticky from the humidity.

However, there is one moniker that few people know. It is “The City of the Mirrored Grail.”

The Fifth Grail War would have effects that would be felt across the globe. When the Great Grail was raised from the ground by Illyasviel von Einzbern to close it down, a “shockwave” of powerful involuntary magic rippled through the earth’s leylines and routed itself towards San Cristo. The confluence of magic here formed a mirror version of the Grail heralded by an earthquake, albeit with a few imperfections. Due to the corruption of Saber Alter, she didn’t return to the reflected grail, thus removing any other Sabers from the Belize war. Avenger, an aberration from the Third War, appeared in its stead for unknown reasons.

Of course, the various magi who know of the Grail have jumped at the opportunity to claim its power once more. They have commuted from various countries to take part in the First Mirror War and use the power of the grail for their own ends. As the curtain rises on another holy war, various motives and plans will collide headlong.

[spoiler=Rules]1) First and foremost, the Nasuverse is very intricate and involved. I’ve done my best to summarize the Holy Grail War and its various aspects, but it’s highly recommended you kick around the wiki here to more fully familiarize yourself.

2) If you are one of the participants in the war, you have a 50% chance, maybe more, of dying. Therefore, I’m allowing anyone who has a Master or Servant to create a second “observer” character who can have limited interaction with the war’s proceedings.

3) Advanced Clause applies. At least one four-lined paragraph per post; no godmodding, metagaming or powerplaying (although the first may be inevitable to a degree); and no script format.

4) Applications work by a three strikes rule. You get two chances to change, after which I deny it automatically.

5) No canon Servants. Make your own, suckers.

6) You may reserve a position as a Servant or Master for up to three days. Observers have no limit.

7) Servants will be randomly assigned to Masters.

8} I have the right to deny any application for any reason.

[spoiler=San Cristo, Belize]A southern coastal city in the Central American country of Belize, San Cristo was founded on the site of a 17th century British colonial settlement. Somewhat of a tourist attraction for the locals due to excellent beaches and surfing opportunities, it has nonetheless remained off the radar of most other countries. The city itself is divided into two halves. The western half is more residential and is set on a steep hillside, with thick jungle spilling over on the far borders. The eastern half is more cleared out and urbanized, with sunny plazas and narrow alleys being a common feature. The common center of San Cristo is St. George Plaza, where many of the locals gather as a meeting point.

[spoiler=Terms]Servants: A Servant is a being of either historical, mythical or fictional renown who has imprinted themselves in the collective human record as a “legend.” Because becoming a famous figure nowadays is much easier than it was in the past, the current cutoff is the 18th century. They are summoned and contracted during a Grail War by a Master, who they cooperate with and lend their extreme powers to: it is such that a Servant cannot be harmed by normal weaponry. All Servants also possess knowledge of how the current era works, including technology and other sciences, and can revert into an intangible spirit form to reduce the burden on their Master. This is because they take a constant supply of prana in order to remain on Earth. Finally, all Servants keep their identities hidden, only revealing themselves as a coup de grace. They go by their class name otherwise.

Magi: These are simply humans who have magic circuits in their body, allowing them to perform magecraft. The more circuits a person has, the more capability is present. Magecraft is passed down in a person’s bloodline through crests, and many magi end up joining one of the various organizations of their kind across the world devoted to keeping their arts secret (like the Mage’s Association and the Church). Although it is usually a formally trained magus who becomes a Master, anyone with potential can summon a Servant.

Skills: A skill is a specific trait inherent to a Servant. It can be considered their “area of expertise” in a way, marking what they were good at in life. Many of the classes have their own signature skills which all Servants in that class possess, and adept usage of one’s skills is often the only way to survive in battle.

Noble Phantasms: The Noble Phantasms are the “trump cards” of a Servant, as incarnations of the mystique that surrounded their lives. They can either take physical forms, like weapons or accessories, or abstract ones, like a curse or ability. Like their owner, their names are kept secret, and revealing one is the key to using a Phantasm at full efficiency. However, the strength of a Phantasm is much greater than a regular attack: one at C rank is equivalent to a normal attack at A.

Magecraft: The simplest definition of magecraft is the production of something that is scientifically impossible through channeling prana (energy) through the body’s magical circuits. This is fundamentally different from magic, which is the production of an impossible effect and is a magus’ ultimate goal and achievement. All magecraft operates on the Law of Equivalent Exchange: for an effect to remain in this world, something of equal price must be given. However, the individual effects of magecraft vary wildly, although each magus is limited to one or two types.

Command Spells: Upon the summoning of a Servant and the forming of a contract, a three-part symbol will appear on the Master’s body (usually on an arm or hand). These are their Command Spells, which can be used to dictate an undeniable order to a Servant, such as “stop fighting” or “help me do X.” Once a spell is used, a part of the symbol burns out into a whitish scar, and if all three go, the contract is broken. In that case, the only thing tying the Servant to the Master is their own free will and relationship. The Seals usually take a form indicating a character’s personality. Examples can be found here.

Holy Grail War: This is the system of battle established by magi to determine ownership of the Great Grail, a system of magic that grants one wish to the victorious Master and their Servant. The war is essentially a free-for-all: a pair is eliminated if either one of them is killed or otherwise disabled from further competition. There is no rule stating that other people cannot provide external aid.

[spoiler=Classes]Each Servant is summoned into one of seven (technically eight) classes that defines their abilities and aptitudes. An individual being often has the potential to be two or more classes, although they can only be summoned into one. They are as follows:

Saber

Lancer: Lancers all use mid-range physical weapons, like spears and halberds. They are very well-rounded, only second to the non-existent Saber class. Their class skill, Battle Continuation, makes them masters of fighting long battles and subsequent retreats.

Archer: Specialists in long-range weaponry, particularly bows and arrows, Archers are known to be the most difficult of the classes to properly control. This is due to their class skill, Independent Action, which allows them to operate without using a constant prana supply from their Master.

Rider: All Riders use their mounts as a primary weapon, whether it be a horse, chariot or even a modern airplane. Although they may have lowered stats compared to other physically-oriented Servants, their mounts compensate for this with powerful abilities. Their aptitude increases with the rank of their class skill, Riding.

Caster: A Caster has an additional bonus over other Servants, as they can use high-power magecraft by themselves. However, due to low physical strength and most Servants having some form of resistance to magical abilities, this makes them the weakest yet most underestimated class. Their class skill is Territory Creation, which allows them to augment their surroundings.

Berserker: Berserkers all share going insane or mad as an essential part of their legend. They have overwhelming physical strength, and their class skill, Mad Enhancement, allows the rank up of all stats they have at the permanent cost of their sanity, making it a last resort gamble. However, Berserkers have a higher prana cost than other equivalent Servants.

Assassin: Sneaky and deceptive, an Assassin has skills and Noble Phantasms usually related to targeting Masters instead of Servants. They are some of the most dangerous Servants both to use and to be against despite their low parameters, due to their class skill, Presence Concealment. (Unlike in canon, you are not limited to members of the original Hashshashin clan.)

Avenger: A unique class born from the corruption of a previous war, this is not a specific human legend but rather “a wrathful incarnation of an unspecific phenomenon.” Avengers have the ultimate goal of setting right something that was once wrong, and thus their goals can be at odds with their Masters. However, they are usually one of the weakest classes, because the vagueness of their origin means they don’t have any outstanding legends of their prowess.

Lilly: You PM'd that to Rinne first, right? Servant apps are supposed to be PM'd..

Rinne: Would you recommend I see the anime first before joining this? Or do ya have it set up fairly well to where someone who's never seen it won't be completely lost?

If I read right, the Servants must be 18th century and later, since after that, it becomes all too easy to become famous and what-not..

And Stalfos, we think alike. I was thinking on doing a rider servant as well, if I decided to do a servant. Since you pretty much got first dibs, it's time to think of a plan B. Lol.

So let me get this straight... to reduce the ease in which one can be famous, we're going from 18th cent. --> 19th cent. --> 20th cent. --> ParisHiltonsextapeforlolz? XD

...

Yeah, I'm inclined to believe you meant to say 18th century or earlier. Which doesn't actually answer my question.
