Dwarven King
You have a man busy with work and writing books as well as participating in church related activities. I watch the channels Lifetime, TNT, TBS, Nickelodeon, and the locals. Never once saw a Assassin's Creed trailer. I would imagine the friend is the same because friends typically have the same area of interests meaning this friend wouldn't know either. To be quite honest, do you know how stupidly easy it is to sue over stupid things? Also, the guy will win because look at this. http://www.all-top-1...-money/2009/07/ Congratulations, you found a link that proves just how stupid the human race is and shows one of the many reasons why I despise society. One of two things will happen. 1: Ubisoft will give him some cash so he will shut his damn mouth. If he doesn't like the small lump they are willing to toss to him, then the second thing will happen. 2: Ubisoft's lawyers, who are prepared for this, are going to rip him a new one. So...what's the lesson here? Leave the big companies alone so they can continue making the games we all love. Quit throwing a hissy fit because you found out that there is at least one other person on this planet who is capable of coming to the same conclusion as you on a certain subject. <_<
Phantom Roxas
Wait, he's suing them after his initial reaction being "it didn't relate to the book at all"?Rofl, I just caught that. I know where Ubisoft's lawyers are going to start! ;D Reading comprehension fail. His initial reaction was that he thought it was cool that they liked the book, then he realized that it didn't relate to the book. Now that I think about it, if that's his argument, he has no basis for claiming it was plagiarism. They took his idea and made it different? Totally a ripoff! Agro
Thank you Aggro for agreeing with me. As stated earlier, I doubt anyone in the AC Team, let alone Ubisoft, even heard of the book until this lawsuit. And I wanna say that for someone to say that any idea, piece of art, whatever is 100% original is an arrogant statement.. With almost 7 BILLION people on this planet, it's impossible for something to be 100% original. And obviously, there are exceptions to everything, even the statement above.Well the basic similarities are1. the Animus was something he came up with2. his character looks through his ancestor's eyes at the past and sees a lot of historic events and people3. Assassins show up. That's the jist of what he's suing over.
Umbra
Why wouldn't Ubisoft have heard of this book, exactly? Sure, it may not have been a blockbuster, but it was definitely around. There's no reason to believe they hadn't heard of it. As for the case, he probably has a claim and might get some money out of it. It wouldn't be the first time an author found that some of his work had made its way into another media and made it out successful.
Elƒie
Someone might have heard of the book.. But the odds of someone within the AC Team or involved with them having knowledge of the book is unlikely.. Besides, what I don't get is the guy was alright with it until he learned the games didn't relate to his book.. If anything, were opposite of the book.. I thought I read something in an article where he was writing that book and the series he's working for it to help people become closer to God or turn to Him.. And since the games kinda go opposite of that idea.......

?someone?
Hijack: I agree with you there, if they took it from him, then let him have his share... But I highly doubt anyone from the AC Team, let alone anyone from Ubisoft, has heard of the book until now. It's also been 5 years and 6+ games since AC first came out.. Why is he JUST NOW suing them? Something's not right. Because he wants money. This kind of BS happens... way too often. > : (Of course, if his claim is legitimate and not mostly pulled from his own anal cavity, I am going to sound quite stupid. Medivh
The real thing probably is that people that know about the lawsuit will probably go out an get the guy's book, and he'll get more sales, even when he doesn't win the lawsuit.
ENMaker
I cannot understand what basis he has for this...the first AC was released over 5 years ago, he never said ANYTHING about it, ignored the 4 or 5 games since then and all the other merchandise and spin-offs and s***, and now, now that it's a massive franchise worth millions, he decides to sue over an insignificant plagiarism claim? Seems legit.
Tentacruel
If some big evil corporation is stealing people's crap and giving them the shaft, then yeah, they should sue. This is just some a****** who feels entitled.

It's like someone trying to defend creationism using On the Origin of Species. (Arguably, intelligent design.) The only thing this guy has to use for suing is that Animus (the plot device or w/e you would call it) is similar to what he wrote.. The plots are opposite of each other.. Now if the plots were similar as well, then I might side with the other guy.. If I was in this guy's shoes, I'd ask for a chunk of the profits, for some stocks, and then some credits put in the game about the Animus design being based off of my concept.. I wouldn't ask for the stopping of the making for AC3.. That would create a huge mess. Especially for those that pre-ordered the game (I didn't). Phantom Roxas
We're only at the beginning of this lawsuit, so the terms could change over time, possibly resulting in the exact same thing you suggested. And if it's a huge mess for those who pre-ordered, wouldn't it just be that people either get their money back if the game is cancelled or will simply have to wait if it's delayed? It would be the fans that could create a huge mess depending on how they react.

The White Wolf
I pre-ordered it .-. give meh mah tin Anyway, it only seems like the most he can do is delay AC3, with what's been said (I'm not quoting it all. Go back and read your own posts) just give the guy some credit, a chunk of the damned profits and all should be good. But now I'm curious, maybe they did give him credit only no one ever takes the time to read all the credits >_> <_< This should all blow over, but if he does manage to stop AC3, I want my money back and his head on a platter (or on a pike in front of his house, that'd be nice :3)

Guest Cronus
I knew this would happen. Here is a little something for the author of those crappy books. "Published in 1981, the short story "They Died Twice" by Alan Hathaway included, among other things, a machine developed for the express purpose of delving into ancestral memories. "Link" is a clear rip-off of this now 31 year old classic tale. While this reviewer would nominally ignore such things as there is no such thing as a new idea, the author's insistence of suing a company for essentially the same thing he did in 2003 deserves a low rating."~ Review by customer who read the book "Link" First of all I have read all of his books and they virtually suck and are clear rip off's of other famous books. The quotation was from a customer who read Link and gave it a 1 and a half star rating. The plot was boring and it's main idea was mundane but I noticed similarities between it and Assassin's creed, though there were very few. Then I read his sequel Village. "Book title stolen from movies and earlier books. What a shame if you consider that the author of the book lawsuits anyone who has something that may be a little tin bit similar to what he claims as his own, as long as these other people have success and earn money with it.Dear John Beiswenger, why not stay at your engineer job instead of this?"~Review by customer who read Village This guy is a dumbfounded author. What a waste of my time the book was. Bad plot and cliche ideas. And then for some unknown reason I still cannot fathom to this day I read his THIRD BOOK! Bridge. "Seriously, amateur hour, boring, huge lack of writing skills but his entire catalog is simply horrible. Save your money for a more talented author, this is just plain horrible"~Review by customer who read Bridge Once again the man fails to accomplish an even good story and I am left struggling to turn the next page and fighting my urges to sacrifice the book to the "God" he keeps preaching in his book. Sequential is gonna suck even worse. I read all those books and I realized that there are barely any similarities between his book and Assassins Creed. And the books were terrible.
